1.
Just a quick update... Lovin' it! Spent last night trying to play along with some jazz standards and some fingathing tunes (awesome instrumental hip hop band, just EUB and decks, UK based too!). I'm actually finding 4 finger technique easier than the 124 double bass thing. Hand strength has still got a long way to go, and intonation, but it's great fun. My back aches a bit. If anyone fancies giving me a few pointers that'd be nice... Or generally any info about standing position relative to the bass. Tried to find some stuff on the net but doesn't seem like there's much about... Cheers, Tom
Sounds like something for the Wiki, or at least a new thread ..
 2.
He stokes my fur - I stroke his basses, it makes a nice quiet evening in Hamster
Ok now I must admit I don't speak Hamster but is that "He stokes my fire" ? Your accent has defeated me ..
 3. Whatever you get make sure it has wheels
 4.
Really? I'm looking at about £260ish all together then. Just need to find out if it's worth it now or not!
There's a complex calculation detailed here on the Importing basses thread if you want a more accurate assessment. A friend has another of the Squier Pbass body 5 strings with active jazz pickups and it's a mighty fine bass. I think it was about £250 new (but no longer made) so I think you'd have your money's worth. That one looks fabbo. Oh hang on.. auction ended no bids ? Why don't you email him an offer ...
 5.
Superb track/playing/voice. I'm not familiar with either of their work but that was... tingling.
Try "Sapphire" as a starting point. Brilliant atmospheric music.
 6.
I thought Herbie's is a Jazz bass
It is .. kids these days eh?
 7.
Herbie Flower's beat up P, boy the stories that could tell....
Back to Bass spotting school for you laddie Yup that's a +1 from me, The Funk Machine Guy Pratt's pink Jazz Chris Squire's Ric 4001s Jim Lea's (Slade) Flying V My own (stolen) 62 Precision ... and from Bass Chat, Dood's Purple Note Eater The Wood N Tronics Zoid that Mark at BassDirect had at Music Live and sold to James (?) GAS? Me? Nah ....
 8. OK I've just had a go in the Wiki and added some content to the Schroeder cabs section. Can't seem to add images though ..
 9. Should be about 50 quid , based on the £35-40 quid they charge for the 110 dollar SX's ...
 10.
Plus, a nice tort scratchplate to fit an SX Jazz.
ha ha you are going to so regret that
 11. Ok now you've raised the profile of the wiki it may get used more. I'd be happy to put my website sticky stuff in there as it would be easier than wading through the whole thread. However it seems tad off kilter to say you havn't made it user friendly because no one is using it ... Your egg is coming before you chicken somewhat there ...
 12. The stock comes and goes on there. It's just a case of keeping an eye open or asking him.
 13.
Cheers man, I know you couldn't help as replied earlier, hoping someone else would, about the strings that is. Yeah emailed the rondo geexer about a fretless, maybe i should actually wait and see how this one turns out. They're too cheap though, I can see how easy it is to splurge on a new one 'cause you just fancy a Jazz or something. Am having a bit of a gear splurge at the mo.
Ha ha GAS is a terrible thing
 14.
Well the stuff on strings is what I copied from bassworld and I never bothered to tidy it up because I did not think anyone would bother to look at it. It is much easier to keep asking the same questions over and over again without bothering to look at whether the answer is already there. Some even got right sh*tty when I pointed out the pinned threads so whats the point? Mind you the search facility does not encourage looking for similar threads.
Oh dear You sound a tad upset mate. Cheer up There's some good stuff in there but it does need a bit of work to make it more like an FAQ than a stream of consciousness. If it was arranged like an FAQ it would certainly work better to answer the common questions, get used more and cut down the repetition.
 15.
Just picked it up from fedex in Battersea. Ordered from Rondo on Friday night, missed delivery 10am this morning. Some UK shops would struggle to ship in that time. Despite the cardboard packaging there's not a mark on it. ^_^ It looks wicked, only fault being the wonky pots that wobble around like a soon to be detatched hub cap. You can't complain though for £80 can you (which is bizarrely what $180 dollars worked out to as my charge!). The neck is nice and fast, action is quite low, it plays really well. Just gonna give it an oil polish, maybe a bit of steel wool on the back. No sharp frets. Winner. Only real downer is the strings which tuned to E are still really slack so plenty of fret buzz unless you just tickle the strings. I need to tune it down 2 steps to D so am gonna have to get a much heavier gauge than is on here, any advice welcomed on brands/gauge as this is the first bass I have owned and therefore have to buy strings for. Really pleased with it though, very glad I found this thread and didn't spend £450 on a Fender, you all seem alright so hopefully will be on here a bit now myself. Quite fancy a fretless already. Old band bassist had a modded fender P with a rosewood fretless neck added, was a sweet sounding guitar, I loved playing it.
Sounds like a winner - sadly the tax/duty bill will come in the post later re your D tune questions .. It woud be best to start a new thread about that, then it will get the attention of the downtune guys and be more productive than posting it here ... There's a few fretless SX's around on the forum too
 16.
Krieger was an amazingly diverse self taught Guitarist. I mean the Doors were just a brilliant band. Shame Jim Morrison died.
They could l do a Queen with Paul Rodgers and invite Van M to do the Jim M part. He's still a sex god, of course, which is one up on Jim
 17. I'd use it more if it was easier to use .. I've just tried to read the entry on flats and its really hard to scan through and pick out what you might be looking for.
 18.
I also think we should critique the Little Giants when we've actually tried them and not before, and as for moaning about the fact that the 1000 is 2 x 500 @ 4 ohms, whats the problem here? A hell of a lot of great amps are 500 watts @ 4 ohms so with this you get yet another poweramp if needs be, all for £325?! I myself think it will be a real winner and cant wait to try one and check it out properly.
The price is fab but people have just commented on the things they can see already - visuals, colours, rack height, EQ controls, no bridging for 1x1000 watts. Fair enough.
 19. Hot Topic .. The other thing to do with images ... Images and Alt text Any image on your site should have alt text. There are three reasons for this. 1) People do look at sites with the images off. This is especially true of people surfing the web using a phone (it used to say "modem" but no one knows what that is any more ... ) If you have Alt text they can see it even when they can't see the image. 2) Disabilities Discrimination legislation says your site should make sense to disabled people. In this case it means that people using, say, a screen reader will still be able to use your site. When the screen reader gets to the image instead of reading out the rather useless "image" it will read your alt text. Thus the site visitor will know what that image is and if it's relevant or important. 3)Google reads that alt text! and it counts towards your ranking. Cool or what? If you have no alt text, it just says "image" and that's no use whatsoever. So, Google's going to read it so put some key words in the alt text eg: Dan Veall playing his Shuker custom 7 string purple bass at Bootiful's club Norwich with his jazz rock folk band Veall and the Small Calf Cases Result? Your key word score increases. How many images do you have on your site? Not just the pictures of you and your mates but headers, page tiles, bullets, any kind of graphic can have alt text ... Don't overdo it, though. One or two key words per image (as well as the info text) It also helps when people do a google image search - another way into your site.
 20. Hot topic: Setting your band image with your home page picture.. Choose your Home Page picture well ... Here's a band that bills itself as playing Alt Rock (and other stuff) No really, they do! Check out their website http://www.destin-ation.com/band/ and so do these guys: http://www.yearlongdisaster.com You see what I mean? Your home page picture says a huge amount about your band and will draw in people who like the way you look and filter out anyone not interested in a band that looks like you
 21.
Got a gig this Friday unfortunatley i aint playing bass in it i'm singing but still it's a gig.... anyone got any tips as it's the bands first gig it's at our school, we're doing a half an hour set it's my second performance singing..... any tips would be welcome then i'll let you know how it went....
Plan your set, Tune up before going on stage. Plan the start to be brilliant and uplifting. Only play one slow number, end on a high then another high for the planned encore. So many singers spoil great playing and shows by talking crap between tunes. Avoid this by not having gaps and not talking crap. Plan your talking. So ... don't talk crap between numbers. In fact don't talk between numbers, don't introduce them or anything. Just roll them into each other so it's one solid block of music for 30 mins. Limit your speaking parts to "Hi we're Wyld Stallions!!!" between tunes two and three (but over the drummer intro groove for tune three) and "Thanks!! this is our last number wink wink, unless you know better" between your ante-penultimate and penultimate numbers .. then come back for the encore. Then "Thanks we've been Wyld Stallions!!!!!" as you leave the stage. Then rehearse it from first note to last note with your band 10 times including the talking bits. Plan something cool to do do during the bits when you aren't singing - dance, prowl, play shakers or something. Build in an encore but don't over run your time slot Go totally over the top with the show,. play to the audience not your band mates, make eye contact with the audience (or look at the top of their heads) and keep going whatever happens. Oh and make sure every band member gets every friend they have to go totally wild with applause ... Then the rest of the audience will join in. Let us know
 22. Linus27 I hope you are going to bring this to the bash .....
 23.
I got that bass for £45!!
Excellent! Let us know what you think
 24.
Well, I like the look of the Freebass wireless... 150 quid from Dolphin? Hmmm.
Yeah, Shouldn't sniff at a freebase er FreeBass If it works as well as the better Sure or Sennheiser ones then that's a great price... What frequencies do you get? I can't see any info. Does it come with a foot switch so you can use the effects stuff live? I wonder if they will release one without the effects in fluorescent purple in a few years time ...
 25.
Yeah - might be getting one for review next month .
Did you get one? At £170 it could be a world beater
