1.
Oh nooooo now I really want one... Thanks for the replies guys its good to get an idea before if I buy. Just gonna now check the weight difference....
Might be selling mine if you want to join in the queue http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?s=&sho...st&p=157733 I'll know in a few weeks OG
 2.
Cheers mate. I actually downloaded a .pdf of the manual from Zoom's site, so I've read it through, and I'm not unfamiliar with Zoom pedals anyway. Stupid couriers couldn't get my address right so now it's turning up today, when I'm working 9-5. Gah!
I suffer from having the depot miles away so I've agreed with a retired neighbour that they will take in parcels etc. To allow the PO and parcel people to do this my address (on anything that may not go through the letter box) now contains the line "If no answer please try number 65" That makes it "official" aparrently... It works well and catches nearly all the parcels that would otherwise go back to the depot. The delivery people like it too 'cos it's less hassle than taking it back.
 3.
The obvious one is 'Fever'
Oh yeah good one. I see if my singer fancies that ... Thankfully Dr Who sang These boots in that TV show "Blackpool" so we got over the possible gender thing
Once you learn a decent left hand approach you will be able to be much more efficient (it shouldn't really be a strenuous process), so trying not to drone on about it, getting lessons sooner rather than later will save you time in the long run. Jake
Ha ha good point Sorry to drone on about it The DB tutor is a tad hard to pin down ....
 4. I'm going to be brave and gig mine next week. I plan to play "These boots" and possibly "Hit the road jack" .. any other comedy classics that are relatively easy to play on upright? I'll be using it on for a few tunes only, and then towards the end of the evening in case it's overly popular. No way I could play this thing for more than a couple of tunes at this point. My arms would fall off ....
 5.
Ordered a b2.1u yesterday, turning up today. This wait is killing me! It'll turn up at 3.45pm when I'm leaving for work! Bloody typical!
Cool .. Tip number one is read the manual No, really, read it first. Just go off to a cafe or somewhere and read it through from cover to cover before having a go... Sorry, I know this may affect your standing in the lads' community, rugby squad and down the pub ... oh and people will expect you to ask for directions and maybe even multitask at some point but it's worth it to avoid hair pulling and initial dissapointment There's a few threads on settings and stuff on here so a search is worthwhile too
 6. Thanks to all. You knowledgeable lot!
 7. Good spot, BeLow.. I'll be back to that after I've had my lesson from an DB teacher
 8.
Mine arrived today, and I am going through some of the issues you others have. I know the height of the action has been discussed, and I also know this is a 'manly' instrument, but how low can the action be set - any comments? Also I have taken on board the advice from previous posters and will see about some lessons, any one know of a double bass tutor in the Devon / Cornwall border area? Post on the new arrival if you want to see more pictures of a Stagg bass. http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=...mp;#entry194100
ooooooH a nice red one
 9.
There are two here Far East Guitars site (1 alder, 1 basswood) Slightly later models in good nick - useful as a reference...?
Thanks but they are totally different animals - Crafted in Japan (CIJ) works of art. Genrally held to be the dogs ... I just had an email fron John who runs that site and he says the one I'm talking about is very standard fare, japanese pups etc.. Value £200-250 in OK nick. I think that nails it down. Thanks to all .. OG
 10.
Well I am certainly not going to impress owners of modern/pointy etc basses with my gear list! I don't read the gear lists in other's signatures to be impressed or jealous, I think we all like to know what others use. Must get round to that valve amp for complete luddite regression.
"Leo Fender got it right 1st time....or at least by the second time with the Jazz." Third time
 11.
I think so too (although I don't have a signature yet - [edit] do now!) It would nice to bump into fellow Ken Smith owners, and unless it comes up in a thread I probably wouldn't know if someone owned one if it weren't for the signature. I don't think people are trying to show off, they're just proud of the gear they have
CrazyKiwi has a smiffy
 12. Update Guitar dater project say this: Your guitar was made at the Fuji-gen Plant (for Fender Japan), Japan in the Year(s): 1994 - 1995 Does that help?
 13.
Id say somewhere between 400-500 as a starting point depending on desirabilty and condition. A LOT less if its a Lyte... Less it has a dubious history or looks battered. Maybe more if its unusual. MIJs tend to be pretty well made.
Thanks Burspter .. Ha ha I've had two 80's Precision Lytes and they are great basses - not Precisions by any stretch of the imagination, but not a lot wrong with them, and they hold their value well too ... But I digress ..
 14.
+1 I don't think anyone has a list of gear in their sig to impress anyone (although that might be the case for some people), but mainly because others find it interesting. I know I do, and I have a list of gear in my sig on the off chance that other people are interested, and if you take a look at it, it's not very impressive at all.
Zactly I couln't quite see why having a gear list should be a bad thing ...
 15.
Got a pic OG? Just for the oggling value really ...nice pic might help, there could be a MIJ 96 owner here
rather crap mobile phone pics available by PM only for various reasons ... I'm rather after the generic average as a starting point.
 16.
My MIM P is neck end if that helps
Thanks Charic .. rosewood fingerboard?
 17.
Who the hell recycles their basses?
about 80% of the people on here .... About a year ago one of my cleints was running into problems with this legislation as he was obtaining and selling certain types of chips for upgrading old computer kit. Not sure what he did in the end but I think importing used or NOS from other EU coutries was OK. That's a time-limited option though ..
 18. Someone's offered me a "MIJ Fender P bass" circa 1994-5. It has a T serial number. Anyone know about these and their value in reasonable nick, all other things being equal?? I just need a ball park figure/cricket wicket digit Any pointers for differences - woods? Fender headstock script, lettering etc ... Also it's got a rosewood fingerboard but a skunk stripe and trussrod adjuster at the headstock end. Is that normal? I thought rosewood P's had the adjuster at the body end ... I really don't want to buy a rebadged Squier without knowing it is ... ta in advance. OG Edit .. Checked the guitar dater project and it says this: Your guitar was made at the Fuji-gen Plant (for Fender Japan), Japan in the Year(s): 1994 - 1995 Is that good?
 19.
I do see what you're saying. I was very much of the same opinion. I want the Stingray look, but I don't want to cover the wood up. It would be for aesthetics, rather than protection - no bass needs a scratchplate for protection nowadays ¬_¬ I'm really undecided on it :/
Don't do it. It will be like those people who always keep the protector things on their furniture and carpets in case the vicar ever comes round () - or pubs where they have perspex kick sheets up the walls .. No .. 'Tis a bd idea to cover all that nice wood with anything ....
 20.
Noooooooo!!! stay away from the clear SP, your getting an AWESOME bass, dont spoil it by putting on a clear SP. I suppose its personal preferance but I just think they look damn ugly. It just looks like a piece of plastic for protection, its like how stupid Id look in a helmet skateboarding. If this was mine (which I wish it was) Id either get some exotic wood or no SP at all. IMHO
+1
 21.
I am just checking out the Zoom B2 now looks like it could be a good starting point with it being mutli effects and all. Although ive not been able to find one for under a ton yet. Thanks for all the advice up to now.
Zoom B2.1u £80 new Here from www.yonies.com One on Ebay at £70 Item number: 200220691566
 22.
Similarly great lists of the basses and kit you have attached to your posts is surely not required. We only need to know that your a bass player, and everything else can be revealed as and when appropriate?
My list is there simply so that I can support my favourite luthier (other luthiers are available!) and so that someone interested in what I have can ask for my opinion. I don't expect anyone to be impressed....
 23. I've got three and an upright Two keepers: Shuker 5 string Precision. Sunburst/Rosewood.Tort plate. This is my number one do anything bass. Fits like a glove, nearly three and maturing nicely. This is the one I walk by the others to get to. Shuker 5 string bolt on active 2 pickup jobbie. Gorgeous Camphor wood top, shining maple fretboard with no markers, two Nordstrand DC pickups and a Shuker Pre. The back up. A totally different bass all together. This one can sound like Marcus Miller (though sadly not with me playing it). Active and gorgeous and proud of it's total disconnection with the ancestry of teh Fenders and the Jazz or P bass. When it's on stage punter's jaws drop at how gorgeous it is and a stream of kids wander by nonchalantly checking out the headstock to see what it is.... Plays really nicely sat down but like a previous poster for some reason I make more mistakes with this one when playing stood up, ie normal gigs. I think it will fit me better when I play more jazzy slappy stuff. That's the plan anyway. Then there's the others .. SX P bass Sunburst, red tort plate, modified with an SX maple Jazz neck with black marker blocks, original 62 P bass pup, active electronics ... This is for lessons and jams and for handing to anyone to have a go. Stagg upright. Great sound per pound and stunning reaction from the punters. Even more than the Shuker pretty 5 ... Again anyone can have a go ...
