1. Spinynorman _ What is your market? That will decide if you should have a real website plus myspace or just a Myspace. Myspace(alone) is for bands who are looking to develop a following, draw their own crowd, play ALT or original type music and appeal to a young audience. That's until you get a record contract or big management to pay for a startling pro real website to work alongside your Myspace, have street team areas, downloads etc.. Real websites work much better for bands selling their services into the function market, weddings, clubs. A myspace which supports that marketing can be useful for the downloads etc but most pro bookers and mothers of brides are unlikely to book a band from a myspace page as the usability, contact info etc is hard to use until you've struggled through the awful way the information is laid out (and those illegibility backgrounds behind the text - aargh!) Totally different markets and totally different marketing. The Wordpress option sound interesting but can you control the SEO well enough? Does Google index it all? SiBob - just make your old "real site" URL redirect to your myspace and remove the problem. If you are doing a website (or a myspace) you may like to trawl through my OldGit's Band Website review and ideas thread for some ideas.
 2.
The Thomann option, which winds up at £54 including the shipping.
Oh that Thomann one looks like it's going to rip up your car seats ....
 3.
I've only ever had 2 auditions (with the same band). I was pretty crap, but got one with the fellas so got the job.
"Got one" what BBC?
 4.
I've never noticed that! Very true. I've no idea who he is, but he's a walking miracle!
I always thought it was Cary Grant ... (the male one) after he did his Reggie Perrin and ran away from fame.
 5. OTPJ! You are a Hero! Thanks from all of us .. OG
 6.
Also I have a lovely Hiscox case, very sturdy and used by a few people on here, and the choice of John Shuker and Status I believe.
Indeed! my shaped Hiscox has Shuker written on the side
 7. There is only one answer to this : Hiscox. Brand leader, very good prices and availability. Hiscox STD-EBS if you like the shaped ones http://www.guitarampkeyboard.com/en/std-ebs/3543 Hiscox STD-ENS Large if you like the teardrop shaped one. http://www.imusician.co.uk/acatalog/info_0...m_term=00080388 I have one of each and they are as tough as Grant Mitchell and last for years. The teardrop has more room for straps and things but is longer (and so may not fit your transport device)
 8. Remember that you are auditioning them too, so if they do stuff like that you can walk out. "Don't ring me, I'll ring you" I do the 20 questions thing on the initial phone call 'cos if they don't fit with what I'm looking for there's no point in going other than for the fun of playing different music and meeting new people .. You never know who may call you later after that band breaks up
 9. Back to teh topic .. Mewsie can you find a youtube and spot (time wise) the bit you are talking about? I had a go through several yesterday but couldn't find it ... Thanks Oh and I like Amy's singing, full of soul ...
 10.
thanks m'dear. its an ongoing problem for me, flares up every couple of months, and is playing havoc with my bass-ing as i do everything by ear. re: your ear, i'm sorry to hear that, ear infections really suck don't they? x
You may want to have a wander through this page on Homeopathic remedies and ear infections http://abchomeopathy.com/c.php/175 Worth a go whether you believe it or not
 11.
Oh Blimey! I struggled, and i mean really struggled to get help with the purchase of a bass. I cant beleive that it was so hard to get basic help. In teh end i went with an Ibanez from the Drum centre on the gloucester rd simply because the gut pluggged it in and said, hey , you can do this with it. The chap from mickleburgh was ok, but not brilliant. Sound control just used to ignore me because i wasnt looking at a Fender, and because i was a beginner. Eugene was the best by far , be he had moved on when i finallywas ready to make a choice. His ex boss stated that he thought all guitar shops will be shut in the next year simply because Fender will put them all out of business! I looked at jam, but there was nothing for me in there, and the shop up the street had very little choice. I really wish there was a good music shop in Bristol. God knows what would happen if I wanted a decent bass. Matt
Oh stop whingeing you Bristol people! You have about 10 guitar shops, independants, a famous vintage emporium, a specialist shop dealing in totally high end guitars who can get you exotica, a Warwick main dealer dealer (also Peavey and Fender last time I was in there), a Sound Control/reverb, and a bunch of others who will try hard for you and you are moaning???? Not Bristol Uni Students are you? Get real and do what everyone else has to do .... buy off the web or get in your car and drive to Bass Direct in the midlands, (about 2 hours, maximum, from stokes croft,) the Gallery in London (2 hours drive) or the bass merchant in deepest Essex (Ok a bit further but still only 3.5 hours away) Some people don't know they are born ,... kids these days .. etc
 12.
I bring the Shuke to play and the Status just in case, plus I take my tool/spares box -- I refer to it as my 'oh-sh1t box' -- containing (deep breath) screwdrivers, spanners, a million allenkeys, pliers, snips & scissors, nail-clippers, wire-strippers, strings, PP3s, fuses, gas-iron, solder, insulating & double-sided tapes, torch, cable, wire, pots, resistors, switches, heatshrink insulation, jack plugs & sockets, rapid araldite, superglue, multimeter, switch cleaner...
Hey! Add a lipstick and that's my wife's handbag!
 13.
OUCH!! except NOT as you say, result! I once got to a gig on the Isle of Wight, opened the back of the van, where my crappy upright lives and the neck was off, joint all caved in. You can't really carry a spare upright bass sensibly so frantic calls were made to music shops, we found a guy 1/4 mile away with an EUB, he very graciously lent it to me. The Moral You're never more than 1/4 mile away from a bass
The tail story in Bassplayer this month is about that - one wrecked Double replaced by a loaned one that then got wrecked too At least there's usually some kind of bass guitar around somewhere ..
 14.
I did a dep mini-tour which had a couple of instances of me playing 3 evenings in a row. I had a similar deja-vu experience to OldGit. After a while I had trouble distiguishing which venue was which, but that could have been the alcohol and sleep deprivation
Ha ha the effects are still happening then? That wasn't me
 15.
I got to the 18th Fret once Si, but I think I suffered from altitude sickness. After some Oxygen and a sit down I was okay, but never again. 21 frets? Show Off...
ha ha I loikes me top E, loike ...
 16. For 30 years I only ever had one bass (but took spare strings, strap, soldering iron etc ) The worst thing that ever happened was a sharp bit of bridge breaking D strings every gig 'til I sorted it. Never ever had a bass break down, or and amp, actually. But now I have a double gig bag the spare strings, fast fret, cloths, etc are in that so it's easier to take that than to mess about move everything over to a single case each gig. So both Shukers (and the upright) go to my main band gigs. +1 on them sulking if they don't get some exercise too ... odd that ... Depping gigs I just take one.
 17.
I've done three in a day with three different bands - a ceilidh band, a rock/R&B band and an R&B Blues band and I thorughly enjoyed it! Mind you it was at my 50th birthday party.
Oh yeah.. My 40th was like that .. But it was no longer than one gig - I just played all night with all the bands I was in at the time (4) and a huge jam session at the end..
 18. Some of these Westone Thunder like things are splendid and great players' basses. Tough as old boots and they sound pretty good too. Some had Dimarzio's, I think. Diss with care ...
 19.
Can't think what more you could ask.
Extra fret, side LED's
 20.
Well I have to say that in the 35+ years of regular gigging I don't remember that ever happering before. There's been one or two 'one man and his dog' type of gugs - but never no one! Odd.
Many years ago I depped on sax at a regular gig - to less and less people 'til eventually the last one I did there was literally no one at all - even the bar staff went off.... but it was jazz
 21.
Is the Shuker that good?
22.
No Compander!!!!!! This I have GOT to hear!!! - Every wireless I have ever tried has let me down.. cos I am soooo fussy! Could this be something decent at last?
Planning to leap about a bit then Dood?
 23.
I played the Shuker for the first time in anger last night at a local hall which we'd hired to try out the new PA system. We invited a few friends along and all I can say is WOW!! I has loads of comments about how cool the bass looked, as well as people saying how good it sounded. The bass is so easy and comfortable to play and the sound that comes from the EMG's is amazing. It covers everything from the traditional P Bass sound right through to a very modern Pop sound. Definition is amazing and although I'm still not convinced about playing everything through FOH, this is defintely the bass for me!! So much so, that I'm now seriously wondering whether I need to keep hold of the US 2008 P bass i bought a few weeks back... Oh dear
H'excellent (steeples fingers inna Mr Burns Styleeee) another convert Ol' Jon really knows how to take your needs and desires and convert them into basses, n'est pas? I'd hang on to the 4 banger for a year or so as I am now playing 4 string a lot more .... of course what I really want is a Shuker 4 string but hey, life aint perfect ....
 24.
I read it as "The drummer, the mouthy ****".
exactly
 25.
Well it's already gone back, and I've asked them to put in the new pickup-as I said I'd planned to replace it anyway, and I didn't want another Fender pickup, and I want it back for next Sunday so I wanted to get things shifting ASAP. I've sent a dirty Email to Fender UK, and I may well push for at least some contribution towards the cost of the new one, even though it isn't a Fender. I probably should have done something when the S-1 stopped working, but I didn't use it anyway, and quite frankly as long as it was OK on the normal setting I wasn't too bothered about it, and I had better things to do. Lax I suppose but that's just me.
Yeah I know what you mean ... Fender should grovel and at least apolgise if not drop you a set of strings or something ... That S1 thing was stupid on a P bass .. You can probably sell the knob and switch for good dosh though as people put it on Jazzes ...
