I spent a good few years (in those dark years without a bass) playing that sort of stuff, though usually more Irish than English, on acoustic guitar and bouzouki. Must give it a go on bass
It's a Morris tune called "The Princess Royal" We have it as a tune in our armory. The Melodeon player and guitarist rip through with me on root 'n' 5ths then I join in up the dusty end for the climatic, er, climax. It was one of the first diddly melodies I learned.. I try to learn a few as it keeps the fingers nimble and broadens the sound and repertoire a bit ..
 2.
Winston was the bass player for Massive Attack and I've only ever seen him with the same Smith BT5. He and Randy Hope-Taylor share the bass chair in a functions band called the All Stars who are playing a series of free concerts at The Scoop by City Hall. In fact there's one on July 17th. http://www.theallstars.co.uk/
See? Not much wrong with function bands
 3.
You have to be quick with ishibashi. I got a '66 reissue Jazz from them recently, but yeah, the stuff on that site sells very quickly. The Seppos watch it all the time!
Yeah I just missed a PB62 I fancied .. Seppos?
 4. So many chefs on this forum!
 5. Last Thursday. A repeat dep booking for a EUB gig. Welsh barn dancing for 80 or so Argentinian teenagers on an English course in a castle ... Amazing enthusiasm for country dancing - not something we normally see from UK teenagers - but too many E numbers in their dinner, I suspect, as they just refused to listen to the instructions for the first half and just freestyled around whooping. They calmed down a bit as the evening progressed and the last few dances were much better. We ended up playing a little concert of Welsh diddly tunes at the end for a few stragglers and the staff and were thanked very nicely by lots of the kids. I like these gigs cos, in total contrast to Jellied Reels gigs, I take a bare minimum of gear so it ended at 9.30 and I was packed up and rolling 15 minutes later.
 6.
Great tone! What combination of bass, effects, amp and eq do I need to get that? And I usually wait till there's no one else around before I play anything in a shop
Ha ha You just need Kiwi's MIDI Shuker It's a great tune and falls under the fingers just right. Ipop in a few harmonics and a bend. No one else will ever play it as a bass try out tune so it gives the staff something else to listen to
 7. Welcome to the forum.. Can you say where you are and how much you'd like for the bass? Thanks
 8.
If you hear Protect The Beat on one of their pub gigs, like Boaters in Kingston, you'll get to hear WB's sound. At Marlborough you were hearing the DI and the PA, so that was probably just the bass.
Did a youtube search for Protect the Beat and found Roger Innis playing his Shuker.. Do they take turns?
 9. "the funk's in the fingers" Steady on that GAS attack ...
 10.
Simple. Get oldgit to go around and have a look.
Planning to It looks spot on to me, so much so that I rushed to the records to see if the s/n was that of my old one which had that headstock fag burn It's not .. Mine was 1000 or so later than this one... and I still had it in '71 ... I will have to be very strong to avoid buying this... very strong My wife just summed it up: "you need something to play in pubs not stick in a vault" Damn. She's right again. I'll be happy to go and check it out for any BC bidder though
 11.
Pretty sure that'll be my old custom Sandberg - great bass, nice shop, as fate had it I accidentally walked past this shop and one thing led to another (an orange MM Bongo)!
PM'd
 12. Just a heads up for you sinister types .. Cardiff Guitars has a pre-loved Sandbrg California JJ4 "Sandberg California JJ4 LEFT HANDED. 'Creme' gloss finish with matching headstock. Maple neck with a rosewood fingerboard. Recent model 4 string in very good condition. Sorted out to play & sound fine in our workshop. Complete with original Sandberg gig bag. £599" It's got the Delano JMVC 4 FE/M2 type pickups. Looks in good nick. The E string seemed a bit loud compared to the rest but it's odd trying a lefty right handed so YMMV.. http://www.cardiffguitars.co.uk/index.htm
 13.
Think I am going to investigate whether the Triad 'warning triangle' device can be shipped to the UK.
Get Mark at Bass Direct to be the sole UK dealer .... That's his kind of gadget
 14.
Mark BAss bought them all and next month sees the release of the MarkCrate (tm)
Wow Really? Crate amps missed a trick there then ....
 15. What ever happened to stacks of beer crates anyway?
 16. You can have my markstand. It doesn't work for me. To get the right angle of tilt I end up with loads of the thing sticking out of the front of the line of the cab.. That US thing looks good. Why not get one? The EA cabs have a spring handle on the bottom that props the cab up. That's cool but needs screw holes in your cab.. Stick a couple of unused stompboxes under the front The GRAMMA is good for taking out the boom and adding clarity but it doesn't lift them much. I've taken to using two cabs with the amp rack as the sandwich filler to lift the top cab up higher.

 23.
Thanks guys. Is the powerball this? http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/NSD-PowerBall-Gyro-2...%3A2%7C294%3A50 I only ordered the DVD today so I haven't got it yet. Everything has been bluff so far (my wife has fallen for it though). I may well look into lessons (or a lesson at least - there is a credit crunch going on).
Yeah that'sit. There's a few flash (and flashing) variants but the basic thing is the same.
