This thread is a refreshing contrast to the Clutterbuck thread. Our drummer goes to a lot of gigs and never normally mentions bass players he's seen, but he saw Steely Dan a couple of years ago and from the way he was raving about Freddie W, it sounded like his playing made quite an impact on him.
Fantastic!! Presumably, if he is your drummer, it will have had a positive effect for you too?
This is all very good advice. I've shared bills with lots of bands who've done a lot more than one gig who ignore a lots this list and it shows.
+1!!

"Ready" Freddie Washington on "the groove" Amen to all of that!! What a refreshing change, too, to hear from a "name" player who isn't constantly falling all over himself trying to prove how many notes he can cram into a bar?
Again, it's not something that's ever occurred to me. My case fits quite happily in the boot of my Focus.. I do wonder how well a gigbag would cope with something falling the neck, for example...? Similarly, I wonder how many passengers on the Titianic were thinking 'Well, it hasn't sunk yet!' right up until the point it hit the iceberg. ...and immediately afterwards thought 'I wish I'd just gone to Blackpool for my holidays this year...'
This!!

Absolutely bloomin' marvelous!! You deserve a knighthood my friend! -
A few years ago my band did a University gig supporting The Stranglers. Their rider included a case of a particular brand of mineral water and they were outraged to find that the wrong brand had been supplied by the venue. They refused to go on until the situation was rectified and a staff member was duly dispatched to buy the requested water. They eventually went on over 2 hours late, the desired tipple having been delivered to the dressing room. They left after their set and encores and, you guessed it, BOTH cases of mineral water remained unopened in the dressing room. Pathetic IMHO.

Judicious muting by non-fretting hand and appropriate EQ as far as I can see/hear. Nothing particularly difficult about it. Check out the Easy Star All Stars album Radio Dread for more inspiration etc.
Cool, am liking them so far...cheers guys. Not exactly what I was looking for (haven't checked the Mac one yet), but some great tools there. The Vic W one is close, and should help with placement - hopefully transferring it to the real fretboard shouldn't be too much of a trouble. Esp useful are the ios ones, as I'm going on hols for a week soon and can't take the bass (missus' orders) so can practice a bit on the iphone!
This is one of the Mac ones, and it sounds to me like exactly what you're looking for: "And here's a new addition: a very simple program that plays random notes at a tempo and range that you can set. The goal is to play the note back on your own instrument right after it's been played by the program. My friend Jerome Sabbagh brought this one to me; he got it from Ben Monder. The exercise itself couldn't be simpler, but it's a challenge to do it quickly, particularly when the range is wide. randomnotes.zip" Innit?!?!

Self explanatory I hope!! A tentative feeler at the moment, but I'm looking at a straight trade (strictly no cash available from me!!) for something tasty and 4 string. Mojo not an issue. The Status is pretty much unmarked apart from the usual light buckle rash. Plays like a dream and offers a ridiculous variation of tonal possibilities IMHO. Includes Status branded Hiscox hard case. Hit me with pics and descriptions of what you've got via PM please.
