6. Better late than never, here is my ( heavily modded) 1972 Gibson SB. Very few tones it can't produce now! This was my first "proper" bass which I bought (can't remember the price) in 1974 and gigged with it exclusively for two or three decades, hence the slight signs of wear and tear. I have come VERY close to parting company with this bass, but have always eventually seen sense at the last moment, very often after receiving wise advice from BassChatters I might say!! Apologies for appalling photography!!

 9. I'm very hurt that you're not looking for a bassist (although I obviously appreciate why!!) as it's right up my cul-de-sac!!
 10.
Small mixer will do it all.
+1!! Behringer HA 400 Less than £20, and pretty bomb proof in my esperience. 11. Stringsdirect are a great company. Good price and fast delivery. What's not to like?
 12.
I'm hoping they have dealt with the superfly and LG reliability issues because I do like Ashdown's other amps and a mini amp like this (that you can depend on) would be exactly what I need but all the stories of superflys and LGs overheating and cutting out put me off ever buying one which is sad because, as far a reliability is concerned, I haven't had any problems whatsoever with my amp. We only hear about unreliable ashdowns but never the ones that give years of reliable service. - I have a small Ashdown EB 15 combo (which I bought for £150 secondhand) which I use for smaller gigs and it is absolutely BOMBPROOF! It has been subject to 6 years of abuse, thrown down stairs, left in boots of cars in sub zero temps for weeks, got soaked in water, turned up to 11, used and abused and played for hours on end..........and it just keeps on going. It is one of the early ones made in the UK and it's totally indestructable.
I've had exactly that experience with every piece of Ashdown kit I've ever owned. Never missed a beat. Using a Superfly rig for several years now and, again, it has never let me down. You're right that the only tales we generally hear of Ashdown gear are the "doom and gloom" ones. Human nature I suppose, but it is nice to have a sense of balance sometimes.
 13.
Boil them or soak in meths - there are several threads about it if you search. I use flats and so they last for as long as I want them to.
Amen to that. Me too.
 14.
I've always used a Boss TU-2 and I think it's great (especially in chromatic mode for different tunings). I assume the TU-3 is similar but better.
Me too!
 15. Here you go chaps: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1966-Vintage-Fender-Precision-bass-guitar-USA-original-sunburst-CELEBRITY-OWNED-/251069943684?pt=Guitar&hash=item3a74ef4f84
 16. I totally agree that "first come first served" is the only way to go, whether it be gigs or rehearsals, and that everything should be in the open so far as membership of other bands is concerned, regardless of the relative size of the gig fees on the table.
 17.
BTW, not Zephyr 5 is it?
You've lost me there!! Don't hesitate to PM me if you like.
 18.
no they weren't
+1!! Formed early sixties and still gigging now too, as far as I know.
 19.
Too right! Always on a gig, be sure to make friends with the sound man - and the caterers. Then the rest is easy.
I usually buy the sound guy a pint. Worth every penny IMHO.
 20. We fly out on our hols on the very same day as the gig. How's that for Sod's Law? You're not likely to ever be more local to me than this. Ho hum.............................
 21.
I played a gig once where backline was provided and it was one of these.... they get flipping hot don't they?
Can't deny that. Always handy for a post gig all day breakfast before the long drive home. That's pretty much why I stripped the outer casing off mine. It still gets warm, but at least it cools down relatively quickly once it's switched off. I have heard of people using external fans for this unit, but that all sounds like a bit of a palaver to me.
 22. Am I allowed to mention my fan-less Superfly? It's VERY quiet!!
 23.
Guitar player's Mum.
Ahhh, how cute!! Not very rock 'n' roll though is it?
 24.
If it really talks to you, you'll know whether it's worth it. If not, why worry?
Give that man a cigar!!!
 25.
Be careful where you park Pete - we were told to park behind the theatre by one of the staff and we all got tickets. They were only private company tickets so we ignored 'em but a few of the band got some hassle off the sheisters who gave us the tickets. Nice venue but agree with sh*tty get-in but it's not as bad as Blackpool Tower Ballroom.
Without wishing to hijack the thread, I'd have to say that the Blackpool Tower Ballroom gets my vote for the worst load-in, certainly that I've experienced. Back on subject: Break-a-leg on Saturday Pete.
