  1. Thanks to BaggyMan I've finally laid my hands on Sterling SB14 complete with a Nordstand pick-up. After fitting a set on Sadowsky Blue Label nickel strings and a bit of a tweak it is a joy to play. Having owned 3 full-blown MM Sterlings over the past 24 years the SB14 really is a little hidden gem. I now want another to convert to fretless.
  2. Before I lash out on new strings has anyone tried flats or nylon coated strings on an MM Sterling or SB14?
  3. At one point we owned two Ginetta G15s so I persuaded Mrs OBBM to have several Imps so that when they died (failed MOT) they became a good source of spares for the G15s. Unfortunately she did not appreciate the classic value and appeal of the Hilman Imp.😉
  4. Thanks Barry. Very interesting. Bit of a big ask but do remember or have a record of the serial number?
  5. Interesting. Do tell Barry. I bought this one in 2019 from guitarguitar.
  6. I recently purchased a Barefaced One10 from David. Very easy transaction and the cab was extremely well packed. He regularly checked its progress just to be sure that it arrived safely and intact. Thoroughly recommmended.
  7. Back to The Star in St Erth last night for the second time this year. Quite warm but an appreciative crowd. I recently got asked to use an amplifier rather than DI into the Bose PA as band leader didn't want to bring his large Bose sub any more. Understandable as the sub is a bit of a beast and he is same age as me, old, so I recently acquired a BF One10 from @Mungobass and used it with a Tech 21 Flyrig and an MB Nano. More than enough volume and band loved the great tone. I had some One10s a few years back and didn't get on with them but last night changed all that. What amazing cabs they are. I now have gas for a second One10 again. Will my Berg cabs become redundant I ask myself?
  8. Hi David Welcome from another David. To me NJ = Springsteen & Southside territory. Ever come across Joe D'Urso?
  9. This is a very interesting thread. I have a lined Rob Allen Mouse fretless which is great. I used for a whole gig recently and the band loved the tone however I found that I was almost continually looking at my left hand as my muscle memory is totally attuned to a 34" scale so I am also in the market for a reasonably priced fretless however not a Jazz bodied one. The Revelations look interesting, anyone know how much?

  11. Then there’s Lemmy playing guitar in The Rocking Vicars. No video as it was mid-60s but plenty of stills and tracks on YouTube.
  12. I couldn't possibly admit to playing the trombone, just as i won't admit to playing the bass. I took lessons from the age of 11 and played(?) in the school orchestra for several years. I just made in-tune sounds at the correct moments in the score. Eventually at the age of about 15 I was consumed by the dark side having listened to too much Radio Luxembourg and Saturday Club. My brief affair with the trombone was over and the lifelong passion for the bass began. One day I'll learn to read music and play it properly but time is running out. 😉
  13. Nice bass. I had one of these in my teens back in the early 1960s however this was not the only type of Framus that Bill Wyman played. He mainly played the larger bodied 34" scale version. I remember seeing him with the Rolling Stones playing in Richmond, Surrey at that time.
  14. That is not a genuine Neutrik and being 4-pole should not be used with the Combo socket. I recommend you get a cable with genuine Neutrik plugs.
  15. Something to remember is: 2-pole Speakon plugs fit 2-pole and 4-pole Speakon sockets 4-pole Speakon plugs ONLY fit 4-pole Speakon sockets. Combo Speakon sockets are 2-pole and will ONLY take 2-pole Speakon plugs.
  16. I've recently re-bonded with a 1973 P that I bought about 10 years ago. I used it a few times but it had some dodgy frets so it sat in its case for a few years and I used a Sadowsky HPJ instead. At one point I thought I'd sell it but decided against it. Glad I didn't. Eventually I got it re-fretted and plecked at Chandlers in Kew and fitted with a set of Rotosound flats. Like many Fenders it had a dead spot on the G-string but when I bought it there was this headstock shaped brass plate in the case. A "Fathead". It fixed the problem. It now sounds just like a P should and is a joy to play. It's now a tough choice between this and the HPJ for the next gig.
  17. I do believe you are correct. This time I want a maple fretboard just like the 1996 one I once owned.
  18. First outdoor gig for several years yesterday afternoon at the Lostwithiel Gin Festival. A relatively small event but a very good crowd who obviously appreciated the music. Great covered stage and PA set-up however it was in a well shaded part of the ground adjacent to the River Fowey. There was a very strong cold wind blowing straight through the stage so it was bl@@dy nithering. I sat around wearing 4 layers and gloves for an hour before our set and I was still cold. In fact my hands were still cold at the end. Ridiculous because at the other end of the ground there were no trees, brilliant sunshine and quite warm. Still it was Cornwall after all. I took my trusty Sadowsky PJ, Backbeat and a recently acquired Tech21 Fly-rig so I was travelling light for our 90-minute set. One great piece of news is that the band leader has decided we should dispense with his drum tracks and find a drummer. Hallelujah.
  19. You could well be right about that. I don't know what thy were using back in 2009 and I'm not an expert.
