2.
Buy or trade with confidence, Alex is a highly reliable guy!
True dat.
 3. On the plus side, it won't need shielding out.
 4. That is one of the least metal basses I've ever seen.
 5.
Ou7shined, who do you think you are? i would hope you will find me on the internet as im a website desigener and own 6 companys, i think you better keep your thoughts to yourself unless you want to end up in court, and for your information in not a noob unlike you! get your facts right before you go saying things like that!
Now that you've had the amazing good fortune to sell this bass mere hours after it came up (noobs don't often get this lucky, especially when their first impression isn't, shall we say as good as it could have been) and this is no longer a FS thread I am at liberty to answer your question. Who do I think I am? Well firstly for the purposes of this thread, I'm an establish forum member with a post count of nearing 6.5k. You are a new today with a post count yet to reach double figures... which in anyone's book equates to noob. Now I'm not a big internet tycoon like yourself obviously but feel free to correct me if I'm wrong. Secondly, apart from the fact that you yourself drew me into this thread by attempting to pass off a picture of my old bass as your own, I was merely a guy keeping an eye out for my forum. In the past this site has had numerous attacks from bots signing up and spamming the boards. Subsequently as a sort of front-line response us members like to assist the mods, who obviously can't be everywhere at once by drawing their attention to any such suspicious noob activity. In this case I myself didn't report this thread but I am aware that others did. As a heavyweight web-designer I'm sure you've seen this kind of collective response before and would applaud any tight-knit community assisting it's admins. Thirdly, I did apologise in advance if my suspicions were wrong, although your threatening reaction toward me almost makes me wish I hadn't shown such a consideration. Besides as I said before, I wasn't the only one who though that this thread and the web results for 'fez_157' were suspicious. One would think a bigwig entrepreneur like yourself would appreciate this and use his keen perceptive powers see it from our side and not flip out in such a manner... but hey with 6 busy companies to run your mind was probably on something else. Finally I am a guy who's not even remotely impressed by your 6 companies (correct spelling btw) and their CEO who threatens to sue people on the internet for calling him something as benign as "noob" ... even though he calls them one back. I hope this answered your question mate. Welcome to the forum. I'm sure you won't be a noob here for long.
 6.
MB1. Thats all well and good, but will it shift these stubborn understains?
Yes.. and 8 out 10 cats prefer it.
 7.
I know lutihers who are very skilled but are not "on the map" so to speak and its funny how they can buy in top quality wood and make me a copy of a Wal, Fodera or any other bass and charge me £1000 and still make a good profit. .....
Trust me, there's not much profit there taking the man's time into account.
 8.
Most people will hate this and yes am opening up a massive can of worms but I feel like I have to do some thing about what I personally believe to be the capitalistic and elitist. motivation behind some of the big names in the bass world these days, and yes this is one of them rants errrm I mean open discussions for intellectual debate. So this is my problem, companies like Fodera, Wal and kevin smith and to be honest any other maker who care to charge a ridiculous amount of money for there product, claiming that the price is justified. Its just flat out wrong, and there should be some form of ethical responsibility on there behalf . .............
Good for you... you have sussed it. But you've come to the wrong place to vent your spleen. Most of the peeps willing to argue with you (or get picky about your choice of words - I presume you sorta meant moral business ethics) are already balls-deep in the system you are trying to topple. It is hardwired into the Matrix (for now). We are enticed into believing that the quick path to perfection lies in s[s]pending[/s] investing the most amount of money possible on something.... (and then telling everyone about it) Do yourself a favour and take your observation to a guitar forum and tell them about the crazy bass players paying stoopid money for not much more in return... oh ... hang on they do the same thing ... well take it to ... a microphone forum then .... ah crap, the same ... a hi-fi forum ... doh! .... a car forum .... gnnnh! ... knitting machine forums .... ahhhh! ... juggling? ... oh no, The Great Juglendo (bedroom juggler extraordinaire) only uses a top end brand of clubs which are designed in a wind-tunnel in Switzerland then laser forged in space by the son of world renowned juggling club guru Karl Von Schwanschucker. True, buying Brand X costing 5 times more than Brand Y (which in turn has unarguable benefits over cheapo Brand Z) may not tangibly give you that much more... but Big Brother encourages his underlings to be less selective in this regard and instead to derive extra satisfaction (perhaps a even little schadenfreude) by purchasing something that has your perfectly acceptable example of the genre beat hands down... a more expensive label. *bing* 1up - health restored You are ready for the next level, Grasshopper.
 9. Indubitably Holmes.
 10. Must have made a few pups at home to have these there too.
 11. Must have been a funny bass that had a P pup and 2 J's in it.
 12.
There is a slight problem with the photograph you have posted of the body of 'your' bass. The photograph is in fact of my bass which is still is a cherished part of my own collection. This photograph can be seen on the Musicman Serial Number website: http://myweb.ecomplanet.com/TOWN8019...ompage0001.htm The photograph of the head of the bass is not mine so I couldn't possibly comment. You have already stated fairly that the demo clip is not your bass. Perhaps a photograph of your own instrument would help your sale.
Haha this clears things up very nicely for me Hutts because that headstock pic is the headstock of my old SUB. I was looking over my old pics and it was driving me nuts as the neck grain as seen in the body pic is wrong.... and has the wrong pg... also mine was passive... but I did shield it out (which is a very unusual thing as these 'buckers don't need it... I was just being fancy ) and the dings are in the right place. The mods may want to look into this noobs account this handle has a trail a mile wide over the net .... some of it might be haxor ... appologies if I'm wrong.
 13.
Very helpful:) I've seen this type of routing on a fender before. I think you are right to assume the cavity colouring is an indicator of the source. It's a not often seen colour and I'm sure the whole guitar was this colour at some stage. I would go to the fender officialforum. Those guys eat and sleep fenders. You should have an answer either way pretty fast.
To be fair that colour, although it could be original, could have been applied at any time. It's obviously had some fairly invasive surgery to date (ie the wiring gouge and that chunk chopped out for the tr adjuster) so someone's obviously had a "hands on" go.
 14.
Maybe it's not more of an indicator of a Fender though. Fender bits and bobs - especially the pickguard - fit my old Maya P bass copy without any issues.
Same with my mystery Jap and many more besides but my suggestion could still help the guy if it doesn't.
 15. I have a fantastic mystery 70s "japcrap" P bass (possibly Hondo) which has the same hole arrangement at the bridge as yours ie. two extra front ones - a Fender bridge fits right on without any extra drilling though. The big difference to a Fender for mine though is although the tr adjuster is at the same end it has a closer arrangement of neck bolt holes ... oh and it's a 1 piece. Does a Fender pickguard's fit perfectly onto yours without showing any of the control rout and all the screw holes match up? That's a good sign to look out for. It looks like yours has holes for a pup ashtray but not a bridge so maybe it was an afterthought. Do Tokais have tugbars like your has had?
 16.
I've just come off the phone with Jon Shuker, he say's the bass is authentic and he did the work.
Nice one J. It was niggling away at me. Must have been a Friday afternoon.
 17.
Wouldn't Jon Shuker have his details if he did the conversion on the bass ?
I'd love to hear what he says about this bass. I dunno it just doesn't look his style to me. (my 1st post was sarcasm btw)
 18.
AHA!!!! I see thru your cheap lies sir - everyone knows Duff doesn't play in G'N'R anymore!!!!
Darn it I nearly "brought" the lies too.
 19.
I quit a couple of days before the end of December, I was already down to 10 a day, and just didnt fancy another one. Come next weekends gigs, I'm not sure what I'll do, cos it helps to pass the standing round waiting time, especially as I;m driving and so cant even have a drink. Havent noticed any increase in smell coming from other people or furniture yet though. Agreed, it used to be bad everywhere, but so few people smoke these days that its not as bad as some people make out. Funny though, i grew up in the 60s when everyone smoked cheaper, stronger, untipped fags and nobody, not even nonsmokers ever noticed it,. What a orrible smelly world it must have been back then eh..
Good for you for quitting. Keep it up. It sounds like you are ready. I was like that too - I was down from heaps (my social circle was based around smoking) to just 3 or 4 a day at the end as it was kind of hard to spark up where I worked. Then one day I got up and realised that I'd simply forgotten to have any fags the day before and I just challenged myself to see how long I could make it last. I didn't pressure myself either and in fact carried baccy with me for about a month after I quit but never dipped into it. I think for me the smell became detestable after about 3 or so years in, so there's plenty time yet. Rather than the smell I think the first thing you'll notice is how far you can walk without breathing heavily, how little coughing you do and how you escape colds when others around you get smitten. Eventually your senses of taste and smell come back to you. Of course the main downside to quitting smoking is you can never find a lighter when you need one for birthday cakes or barbques etc. - eventually even all the ones hidden at the backs of drawers have no gas in them.
I'm a smoker (on the process of starting to quit)...
Good luck.
I hate people who smoke inside when theres kids around, absolutely no need for it whatsoever, often they're the same people (No reference to your mother-in-law here! ) who swear constantly when there's kids around too. I smoke, and swear, but i'm intellectually aware enough to change my behaviours to suit the occasion/environment, even if I'm stupid enough to still smoke......if that makes sense?!
Perfect sense and +1. The mind boggles when you see a mum pushing a buggy with a baby in and she's puffing away. Mind you those types never give up during pregnancy and the baby's probably got a habit anyway.
 20.
I used to play regularly at a place in Matlock Bath during a time period either side of the smoking ban. About a year before, and then about a year afterwards. Within a month of the ban the function room at the pub changed from the good old ciggy smell to a vile mixture of urine, sweat and mouldy curtains and carpets. An egg-head doctor friend of mine told me that cigarette smoke actually has an antiseptic effect and that the mould spores (now rampant) might be more harmful than the smoke! We packed the gig in soon after (not because of the smell!) so I can't confirm that. We've all got to die of something, so I reckon we just have to make our own informed choices.
I guarantee that if you packed in smoking you'd change your mind about all of the above (especially the stuff about it's antiseptic effect). I did. If you think about it, we all know the harm smoking does so the choice to smoke is not an "informed choice" as it directly contrary to all the good information we have. It is however a choice we can make about our own heath given the rights we all have to freedom of choice... this right only falls down when it impacts on the freedom of choice for other not to smoke... hence the ban for public places etc. (I still see idiots smoking with children in the car - hopefully the will be a law against that soon too) I used to smoke (a lot) but I gave up about 7 years ago (coincidentally around the time my mrs fell pregnant which helped a lot). At the time I felt very much in the minority as almost all my peers smoked too. I'm glad to say that times are changing and now I know only a handful of smokers... those who are too set in their ways and those who are in denial and find excuses about the benefits of smoking (like it keeping mould off the curtains ) I still see school kids smoking (mostly girls) so I guess we as a society still have a way to go to un-glamorising it. Back on topic - I bought a bass to do up last year (supposedly owned by the sellers young nephew ) which when I opened the package absolutely stank of smoke and made me smell of it too when I touched it. I find the smell very unpleasant now and I definitely wouldn't have bought it had I known. The catch 22 of course is that the seller would have been absolutely oblivious as to how much it smells as you genuinely can't smell just how bad it is when you yourself smoke.
 21.
I'd agree with all said as regards the dropping of the bass but this bit interested me. I've read of owners of vinatge Gibbos bringing a cased guitar indoors but NOT opening it for a while; quite a while, sometimes even hurrying up the acclimatisation with a hair-dryer to the outside of the case. It was apparently done so as to avoid crazing a nitro finish with the sudden shock of coming from hot to cold - or cold to hot with the sudden opening of the case. IF there any truth in it then opening the case straight away would - I guess - remove any benefit of the process.
This. You don't want to shock your bass into acclimatising, it needs to be done gently. I have a 1980 nitro finished bass which was gigged for many years in Minnesota - where they have very hot summers and very cold winters. The bass has more crazing than Keith Richards' scrotum on bath night and was achieved by loads of quick, cold to hot / hot to cold changes just going outside to inside and vice versa.
 22. Nice.
 23.
Thats not good, glad to see its being reported. Just out of interest, as we have been scammed, can we go back to the old forum now :)
Oh, how cool would that be.
 24. Wouldn't it be a useful single solution for those with multiple guitars and basses loaded with EMGs?
 25. I wonder how easy they'd be to reverse engineer?
