3.
I also looked into these. Nice amps, lots of features. The biggest worry I would have is the amount of people on talkbass sending them back due to failures....not good Ampeg dont make them like they used to.
Yep I saw that too, although looking at the dates of posts, I kind of assumed that it was the early units that they were referring to. (Jan/Feb). Surely, if Ampeg had a known problem then they would do something about it by now??....at least I'd hope so.
 4. Hi, I had a quick go on an Ampeg SVT 7 pro the other day and was quite taken with it. Just wondered if anyone here is using one and what their experiences are for gigs, etc It seems well priced for up to 1000 watts at 4ohms. Let me know what you think. Cheers, Jim
 5.
The Classic 70s Jazz is a great bass. I had one for a while, and although finding out Jazzes aren`t for me personally (they just don`t sound like P-Basses - I do know they`re not meant to), I`d recommend these to anyone who loves a Jazz bass. Nice playing neck, and in the Sunburst, with the black scratchplate and neck binding/block inlays - just about the coolest looking bass there is.
Cheers Lozz. I think these are great value (especially this one ). Offers welcome
 6. I think I qualify with this............
 7. ...and the Lakland is sold pending the usual. Thread title changed to match. Cheers, Jim
 8.
Jim is a great guy and a quality player with some great pedals. Buy with confidence.
Nice one Big Jim. Loving the pedals at rehearsals the other night. Thanks for the advice and I'll use my own thread to give a big thumbs up and recommendation to the guys at fxpedals.co.uk Cheers, Little Jim
 9.
Nice - the second link is my sister singing!
Very good. Let us when the gigs are on. Cheers, Jim
 10.
Discovered a wonderful soul groove band called JD73.... very classy band...what you think...love the horns... i frickin love this music.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TwTH8LpFwO0...layer_embedded#! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w62EICN4Qz4...feature=related why do i adore music like this soo much..
Yep, I had a listen to this only the other night. Some very cool grooves. Wasn't this the guy who played keys for Haggis Horns and Jamiroquai? Also, have you heard the new Drizabone Soul Family album..'All the Way'. They did a funny PA support slot for Incognito the other night (Side note: I haven't seen a PA since the Radio London Soul Weekenders in the late 80's) but the album has some cracking tracks on it.
 11.
TIM (see Off Topic), purely because that Lakkie is gorgeous. Karl.
Cheers [s]Tim[/s]....sorry Karl, Your right. That Lakkie is a real beauty and even better in the flesh!
 12. Just had a good look at this and I agree re: the binding, inlays, four bolt neck, etc Also, the decals don't look quite right compared with my current and my old MM Jazz. Both have the serial number underneath the Fender logo and 'Made in Japan' beneath the Jazz Bass logo. Shame because I actually think it looks quite nice in red! Cheers, Jim
 13. Hi, Although I've not had these two very long, I need to generate some cash for another project so up for grabs are; Lakland Skyline Hollowbody This is a really beautiful Lakland bass built in collaboration with Michael Tobias. Currently strung with flats and comes with a basic hard case. All the information can be found on this link - Lakland Hollowbody - Please note that this is the Skyline version. I don't believe that these are available anymore. Price is £SOLD Pending Fender Classic Series 70's Jazz This MIM Jazz is virtually brand new and in mint condition. It comes with a Fender soft gigbag and the original tags and allen keys. I originally got it to work on as a project bass but realistically, I'm not going to be able to do that now. There's a decent review on this link - 70's Jazz Review Price is £[s]390[/s] Now £SOLD pending Collection preferred or I can meet within a reasonable distance. I'm located near J13 M25 Cheers, Jim
 14. Cheers for the recommendations guys and interesting to get your views. Eden and TC are possibles although I tried an Ampeg SVT 7 pro the other day which I was seriously impressed with. I used to use TE amps years ago and as great as they were I can only remember the weight of the thing. I've only heard good things about Thunderfunk although the 550 is a bit hard to come by. I know there is a 750 on the For Sale thread but still a bit pricey for me
 15.
I use the Fender Bassman to your left, often teamed up with a 79 Stingray for truly scrumptious funky bass tones of much phatness, warmth and clarity, plus a bit of grit when you want it. Can't fault the sound and never had a problem with being underpowered. This beast is LOUD! especially through my big cab (4 ohm Bassman 2x15) not pictured
Now that's one I hadn't considered....thanks
 16.
I don't think there's a "funk amp" to be honest. Although a vintage Ampeg fliptop or a Fender Bassman would be good starting points but a bit underpowered. Try everything you can get your hands on.
Yep, I know it's all in the fingers! Just wondered what others are using and what experiences you have. Cheers
 17. Hi All, I'm considering changing my bass amp and keen to get some input on what should be on the shortlist to try. I'm currently using an SWR golite amp head but I'm keen for a bit more headroom (some where between 500 - 750) + it would be nice to see where the controls are set when I'm on stage. I use 2 x Berg 12 cabs (HT & EX) and mainly using a Marcus Miller Jazz Bass with Bart pre-amp. Style of music is very much funk and soul. So, I've got an Aguilar AG500sc and I'd like to try a Thunderfunk.....anything else on that should be on my list? Cheers, Jim
 18.
Nothing like a bit of gig pressure to tighten a band up, ime.
Agreed and I hope it goes well for you. If not, you haven't mentioned the other option which is to start your own band. I know it's not for everybody and there are times when trying to arrange a gig or a rehearsal is a pain but I've thoroughly enjoyed putting together a like minded group. I've been upfront about how often we play /rehearse and what the genre of the songs and so far so good (we've been running for about a year). As I say, it's not for everyone and at times, the thought of just turning up and playing is nice but for me, the positives outweigh the negatives. Just a thought. Jim

 20.
I've got a set of very old bartolini 2 band EQ preamp. It works fine in the pass and it sounded pretty decent. The guitar tech install it for me in the pass and it works fine, i've ask him to transfer the preamp to another bass but we struggle at the moment due to the wiring is hard to spot on the preamp. We've look at the bartonlini website and no diagram on that preamp because is a older model. The preamp is the bartonlini TBTB and it have 16 wires attached to the preamp. Some of the wire is already attached to the bass and treble pots so thats easy to spot, but the wires for the volume, blend and jack is not label or colour so we not sure what to do with that. The colors for the wire is either orange and blue. So everything is pretty similar. Any idea guys?
I had an old Bartolini TCT installed by a guitar tech and we used this site. Check it out. Bartolini wiring Best of luck, Jim
 21. I bought some tickets for a big JB fan ages ago and was indifferent about going - so glad I did. I thought it was a really entertaining gig with some very talented musicians...'A Day in the Life' was the highlight for me.

 23.
So how does it sound?
Fantastic! It's now only missing Marcus Miller's talent. Seriously, it can be a bit growly (almost mild overdriven sound) if you dig in but it's basically, the MM CIJ Jazz sound with a bit more oooomph. Does that make sense?
 24. My 2p's worth..... I also spent many hours looking at which pre-amp to change in my MM Jazz. After much discussion on this site and others, for me it appeared to come down to the J East Marcus retro and the Aguilar OBP-1. (Quite a difference in price though) As it happened, I managed to find a discontinued Bartolini TCT pre-amp (This is the one installed in Marcus' bass)on ebay for £20. A quick trip to a local guitar shop that does mods/repairs and job done!
