1. I play and run a busy wedding / corp band and every bride or function always want a DJ after our set. I was giving this to a few local guys but got stuck on night and had to do it myself. So after seeing how easy it is I spent a few quid on DJ set up and hey presto saving my self a small fortune every night now. I hated it at fist as I had no interest in doing it but now I am getting into the swing if it. I am not talking club DJ skills here just keeping a dance floor full at a wedding and having a lot of craic doing it. We have a 5 k rig so it saves setting up another DJ pa too. So just wondering how many other guys are doing it too ?
2. Lol ya fecker !! Amazing neck on that bass ! I could easily spend 15-20K on dingwalls
3.
Ive got the ABI and Ive been going through my repertoire and surprising how refreshing having the low A is. Could argue more useful that the low B. Its bloody lovely!
Infairness that's pretty hard to argue with and makes a lot of sense !! I have the abII and I so badly want to try the lee model ...... Better for me that I don't otherwise my left kidney is up for sale. Funny I was over at my mates house grand wazoo playing the Dingwall that made me fall in love .... Abz 5 natural , what a bass. Also his super j/p is too due for Gas is a bastard
4. No but I am tempted , I don't have a use for a low a but would like it for playing at home. Which Dingwall do you have
5. I don't know what the second had market is like in the uk but in ireland there is some unreal deals. I paid nearly 15K for our KME rig about 5 years ago and I just picked one up second hand in better condition than mine for 2K. Don't be afraid to look at used gear.
6. Lol yup that's the dig deep gig right there. I have always gone in with the same price for the mid week weddings but for that we do have to give the same level of performance too. Got to make their night special even on a Wednesday 😀 Best of luck with band dude D
7.
If they (and fwiw others commenting in this thread) were so 'pro' I doubt anyone would be bothered about people being in other bands, all the best pro and semi pro bands (for want of a better term) I know have at least one stand in for every member of that function band, the best wedding bands have some bookings into 2015 with almost every weekend taken for this year, even 'pros' need a weekend off now and again
Weddings is what we do ! I fall in the bookings for 2015 Category. I have to say I love the " we are going to start a wedding band " thing it makes it sound so simple. I have played in every situation I can think of over the years and the hardest gig i have done is a wedding gig. It's easy to get a pub rockin but to play a room that has just sat down and stuffed themselves of food and had a long day is a different matter.then do it so well that you have every weekend booked for the year and keep it that way for the years to follow. I am not saying it isn't a lot of fun but its not as easy as they might think. Anyway, why bother with these guys. Find a band that is looking for a bass player and is already on the way to getting some gigs. I always found that the worst part of setting up a band is the first 6 months as finding five people who get on can be tricky and this is normally when you chop and change a few members to get the right crew. With a reply like theirs I would count myself lucky and move on. Btw if anyone know of a good sound guy looking for a gig in the west of ireland give me a shout.
8.
Just sold my HK Actor and gone with the new Line6 Stagesource L3T's,L3S's and the quite incredible M20D mixer. Its so easy to set up and near impossible to induce feedback even with a open mic in front of FOH speakers.
I am so tempted to buy these, they seem like real value for money. What is your set up and what type of gigs are you doing. Cheers D
9. It's a bit sad all the same if in an argument all you can do it correct the other persons grammar. But I don't know ? Mine is shockingly bad but then I fall into the " running a business while barley finishing school" Category or in other words ... Cowboy
10.
My last contribution then: I suspect that the Beatles made up one of the most important songwriting team in musical history, and will be remembered and written for hundreds of years just like J.S Bach and Beethoven for musical works of great importance. Those who have gone out of their way to misconstrue - or maybe even genuinely misunderstand - their importance in this thread will constitute a minority of people whose dressed up opinion as fact will fortunately not prevail. Quite an eye opener of a thread.
Wow this is how I have always seen the Beatles. It is of course how I feel I don't really wish or want anybody else to feel the same way if you don't like them thats ok by me. It is nice to know I am not alone 😃
11. Lol ur kool it's d other guys who do dat im talkin bout
12. Congrats ! Nice bass I played one in a store for a while, great fast neck and nice and light from what I remember.
13. Please I am not having a go at anybody but just raising a point. Surely the posts that pop up about people giving out on forums are doing exactly just what they are giving out about ? You could call it arm chair mods. Nobody is forcing you to read it. When I find a thread I don't like I simply don't look at it end of story. I don't understand why you would stick up a long post about how this forum is being dragged down when all you have to do is move on. I shared a very different view on a post made by a member and I brought it up. We had a few post back and forth and then it went to pm's where after a few messages we both came to the conclusion that neither of us was being pricks and had a very nice civil chat about music. To be honest I am here to chat about music and bass and meet other people who are the same which is what happened in the end with the two of us. It's a pity that because of the attitude about "bringing the forum down" that we felt it had to go to pm's and you all missed the end result. What is one persons drival is another's entertainment but if you don't like it move on to another thread. Now don't get me started on grammar police, I really feel the biggest insult to a person is to correct their grammar. You have no idea where they grew up or even if they went to school. For some even having the ability to type a post on a forum is a major achievement and to have to be corrected on grammar is fear and should never be lorded over them by a school teacher wannabe. Again I am not having a go at anybody I am just saying spare a thought for the guy and how the might feel by being pulled up on when to use a full stop. Anybody who types 'u' instead of 'you' however should get a good stuff kick in the bollix ..... That's just lazy
14.
OK, there's a lot here to delve into. First, I never said anything about the IMHO thing, and I do not think like that. Furthermore, I react negatively to the notion that you would assume I did, and would start critisising me on the basis of that straw man. It seems that you and I have different views about how to treat people who say "sorry". But I said to him what I wanted to say to him, and am not participating in a downslide with you now. We're very close, as I hope you'll agree. But FWIW, I did not try to wind him up, I never try to wind people up, I never bait willingly. I really hate that stuff with a vengeance. I'm sorry you got a completely wrong idea about what I represent, and will take this with me. I will be trying to be even more clear than I already think I am. Just like in the post of mine that you responded to, I like to try to be simple, transparent, honest and direct, without any hidden agendas. FWIW2: To be quite open about it, I was concerned about his health and/or state of mind. As mentioned, I felt I'd seen a change in his postings. But one doesn't easily say that on a forum, and to a person one doesn't know anything about. It can be very confrontational, be interpreted as a weapon, and can easily be taken the wrong way (in many ways at the same time), and thus result in a type of war that I certainly didn't want to cause. But I thought that my words might hold up a little mirror in front of his face, and he could after that respond in any way that he'd choose. I hoped he'd realise that I had a point, and would decide to be more careful, or of course that he would disagree and tell me. For reasons unknown to me, he has not responded AFAIK. If you can't see how my first post can be seen any differently, I don't think I can assist. I think you're wrong about that, and you're surely wrong about my intentions, but I have no idea about what I could do to change that. It be so. Why I assumed you meant me? Well, statistics kinda clearly showed that people by large exclusively patted him on the back, whilst my post was not like that. I remembered my post. As to the group of idiots, yes, I did ask myself whether I had been an idiot and belonged to that group. No, I did not believe that he meant me as a member of that group. Your phrase "just wondering" is strictly speaking not true. You have specific reasons for asking exactly that. I'm not going into that area though. Peace? Hm. Now I am wondering. But yes, I do wish peace upon you. best, bert
I am too am not splitting hairs over the IMHO bit but I never said you had used it. That may have been Your Sentiment and I hope it was but that's not how it came across to me. I am sure your buddy nige got it however. I really was" just wondering " btw And the word peace is normally what I put as a goodbye like cheers or regards just as you alway use "best" Anyway enough said, fair to say we share different Opinions on most topics. Peace D
15. well thats the thing isnt it, as long as you put IMHO it makes everything ok eh. so imho that was having a pop at a guy who held up his hand and said sorry. but it doesnt really matter, i only stick my head in here every now and then but i normally find your posts to be winding people up. maybe thats not the case but i pop in for a bit of light entertainment and thats the impression you give. i really dont see how your first post here could be seen any different. to me it seems like your trying to bait the op. i diddnt read the beatles thread and wont either if is just another row, but to me if a guy says sorry he gets a pat on the back not another row. btw if you thought your post was anything but the above then why did you assume i was talking about you ? did you also assume when the op said " a small gorup of idiots" he meant you also, just wondering. beatles "love is all you need" live and let live and all that. the op said sorry and your first responce was great,no need to bring up the rest eh peace D
16. I don't get it, a guy has the guts to say sorry and still a numpty still tries to have a pop at him.
17.
I wish I hadn't bothered!
Glad you did dude, remembering when he died is just a way to bring him to your mind again and think about the great work he brought us. Saw him in the sfx in Dublin around 87-88 great gig !!
18. I used to play all my basses but since I bought a Dingwall I don't use anything else. The listis 93 USA jazz 84 Japan jazz bass special 83 fretless sting ray 2005 stingray 5 2003 USA p bass I do use the fretless stingray from time to time but the rest I will sell. I never wanted to be a collector might even make enough money to buy another Dingwall
19.
Mackie have announced cut down software to run on iPhones. GET IN!
This is great news for setting up and mixing your monitor mix !
20.
I dunno.. this was my highlight of NAMM... good old Behringer are all over Mackie again. Behringer : Mackie :
The first one is the mackie. Have it, use it, love it .... Sometimes !
21. Yeah I am we'll aware of the classic range, it just seems for a company that love to call others " stuck in 1952 " a bit like eating your own words. I get the whole classic vibe I do however think the price tag is way over the top too. The big al now there is a bass that looks far better as a bass than a guitar. Big al 5 H ..... I will pick one up someday beautiful machine.
22. Great piece of kit, I tend to only get one gig out of the batteries and I have had a few embarrassing moments when I tried to get 2 gigs and the batteries died in the last few songs. The only other thing is I am in constant fear that I will break the battery over. It seems very week. That aside, brilliant tone and fantastic range. Great for when you are doing sound from stage I can walk to the back of the room for a quick check with no loss in signal or tone.
23. I Like the fact that they bring out new ideas even if they look odd, bongo, pizza slice guitar but is this not what all the ebmm people gave out about fender, just rehashing old ideas.
24. I am looking at getting a good set of powered monitors. It's hard to believe that you can get that much clean power and quality for such a low price. I would love to try them out do you know they will hit ireland
25. Learn to sing, I take it you learned how to at the bass so your half way there. Everybody can sing you just have to find the right key and tones. Start with a few covers do some lessons and practice. You will 1 Get more gigs out side your own band as you can do backing vocals and sing the odd tune too 2 Never have to worry about auditions with singers Which is a major pain.
