1.
Hi swanbrook - sorry, Dingwalls are not on my GAS list these days. Thanks to all for the kind comments :-)
No worries, I am after a 55-94 delux so I will keep you posted my ideal is a cherry burst or natural finish but you never know !
2. Ahhhh cheers, don't know why I have never looked at them before. Stunning basses
3. I am looking at a 55-94 delux, I think. I don't understand the number system is there a list that tell you which is which ? I know it's a USA version I want but what's the difference between a 55-14 or 55-94
4. Would you be interested in a Dingwall ABII xtop by any chance ?
5. Can't send a pm ? No idea why here's what I was sending Hey dude It's a 93 USA jazz in a deep wine colour a few marks but nothing major action is nice and low. I love the look of a jazz but never keen on the tone. This is my 5 th one !! I play mainly stingrays and Dingwall but I have a soft spot for sandberg. Send me a mail and I will send on some pics. Cheers David
6. Hiya I have a USA jazz that I'm trying to swap for .... A sandberg ! I will pm you some pic's
7.
I'm not confident that I understand this text, but whatever you may mean, IME: - most classical players stink at jazz, and are mostly very aware of this. - most jazz players stink at playing classical, whilst thinking they do a good job. No time to go into detail right now.
That's brilliant !!!
8. I think I dislike the jazz heads more than the music and I really don't like the heavy side of jazz music. Even here jazzers talk in a way that puts other music down, calling it musicians music and playing posh weddings makes it sound like it's just for the intelligent and not for you poor scrubs. Classical musicians, at least the guys I have come across ( my guitar player has done his masters in classical music and also hates the jazz attitude) never have the condescending view on any music. As for the music on a whole it's ok but the heavy jazz stuff is not only hard to play but also hard to listen to. It's a bit like an accordion, just because you can play it doesn't mean you should
9.
Some members of Basschat? Irrational? Yes. I've never even met them. If I were to meet them, I feel sure that our mutual interest would overcome any niggling differences. On here? "We" (the community) scrap over every conceivable aspect of our instrument of choice. Now that is irrational.
Class love it !!
10. People who listen to jazz, I don't mind the music, for the most part but the jazz heads bug the sh*te out of me.
11. Guitar players who play the bass
12. One of the best gigs ever, great when everything works perfectly
13. 25th Ann 5HSS, at the price of the bass the case was an embarrassment. It was a cheap copy of the old rock solid cases that came with any of my stingrays even the name was just a sticker under the Handel That lasted about a week. A good quality Levi's or mono soft case would have been better as the case was not strong enough to survive a trip in the band van but was too big to ride in the cab with me.
14.
I think getting a hardcase is essential for a bass over £1000. Anything over £2k and I'd expect something very high end and fancy. The best hard cases are the new Fender hardcases and the EBMM ones. The best soft cases are the Mono cases.
See my first post, 3600 for a mm ltd and the worst hard case I have ever had. MM old cases are class the new type are cheap and nasty. I would much rather a good quality soft case or no case at all.
15. I never liked any of the HH or HS stingrays I have tried, they look odd and don't have the classic stingray sound. Bongo HH is a monster just looks as odd as fcuk but a serious player. But it matters not what we think dude it's your eyes and your ears try them both for a while.
16. One the things I used to love about musicman was the hard case, it was rock solid. I spent €3600 on a ltd about 3 years ago and it came in what could only be described as a cheap copy of the original case. It's flimsy, doesn't close right the clasps feel like they will snap off in your hand. It's not strong enough to go in the back of a van so why bother with it. If its only ment for light use then what's the point of it, surely a hard case is ment for protection.
17. It took me about 2 years to really love playing a five string and even now I do the odd gig on a 4 forthe fun of it. Reason I changed is playing with vocalist who change key, a song is in E but you drop it to D so either you loose your low end note or use a fiver or drop tuning.
18. I have 2 original fender bridges a 83 p bass in black ( well use to be black, a lot of sweat of the years ) and a 2005 that has a string through option. It came off the bass before the first gig. Send me a pm and see if they will work D
19. I am head to frankfurt next week and will be going to the show for a day so I was just wondering if anyone else was going to be around for it. I am also going to head to musicstore for a few hours too, but if you have any tips on places to go while there please let me know Cheers D
20.
Spotted this Super P5 on the Bass Gallery website: http://www.thebassga...e=Bass%20Guitar Don't like the look of it much myself, weird orange tort on the plate, the black knobs don't go, and the body looks out of proportion?
Me, I think it's the most beautiful P bass I have ever seen ! I wonder does some of that come from the fact that I just love how they play and feel. The world would be a boring place if we all likes the same stuff. D
21. I am going to get a super p 5 soon, well maybe At the end of this wedding season
22. I bought a Dingwall abII and stopped wanting any other basses Best of luck with sale a great price for an outstanding bass
23. I bit the bullet and bought a brand new ebmm ltd once. It was a very nice bass but when you look at other basses you can buy for the same money it pales. They are a production line bass, well made in fairness but The difference you get with a hand made bass is outstanding. I have said it 100 times I still own and love all my stingrays but I would find it hard to pay €3600 for a production bass again. The 30th is an amazing bass they got some magic going on there,if it had one more string and diddnt weigh a baby elephant I would be after one. My advice is take a day trip to one of the uk shops and play one, compare it to others and if you love it then buy it.
24.
We hardly stick to "our area" in the next few months we have gigs in Birmingham, Liverpool, London and Newcastle to name but a few. We're currently organising a tour of Holland and Germany for later in the year. IMO there's little point in doing originals if you're never going to venture away from your locality.
Oh man I remember the tours of holland ... Best fun ever some if the best and worst times ever
