1. Would love to be there, I'm a big fan of Steve ! He still owes me a fiver btw ....
2. Has anybody tried their inuke power amps ? I am thinking of buying one for back up or for small vocal pa gigs. They seem pretty cheap but kinda handy to have one in the rack as its class d and won't way much and chances are it will never be used. But I would love some feed back if you have used them D
3.
If you're playing with a band full of muppets, it doesn't matter if they're play covers or original material...!
This is so true, if your attitude sucks the devils anus then it does not matter what type of stuff you play it will be sh*te anyway. Bottom line is " you can't polish a turd "
4. I spent years gigging in original bands all around Europe. My drummer has played all over the world. We both have the same stories of great gigs great time and no money. I always played in cover bands at the same time to pay the bills. One thing I learned is you can't eat credibility
5. It will pump out 500 watts at 4ohm. Check to see what the speaker can take.
6. I see a few people saying things like " when I only put on a mediocre show " I don't get this. Every gig I do I play my best and put on as much of a show as I can. I have always gone with the idea of " your only as good as your last gig" Here people have no problem telling you if you where sh*te or not and if you where having an off day they will spread the word on just how crap you where. I have played huge gigs and tiny gigs and everyone get the same 100 %. The day that changes is the day I change career. It's an honour to play in front of people even if they have the same iq as pond life
7. Who told who how to run a band,Did I miss that post ? I said how I run my band and stated that the same rules "can" apply to most other bands. I dont remember any body else telling how we should run a band either. We had the debate about the gigging for free not too long ago do we really need to do it again.
8.
Never been in a band that was paid before playing nor played a venue where that was the common practice with other bands.
I once got a cheque that bounced and took 3 weeks to get sorted. So about 5 years ago changed to this way and have never had anybody question it. My band is run as a business and as long as all this is up front then nobody has a problem with it. It's in the terms and conditions of the booking form. I had one guy who said he would only pay by cheque on the night and no other way so I diddnt take the booking. But it's a method that works for every band no matter how big or small. What's worse playing a gig and going home with no money for it or not playing and having a night off ? If you doing the odd gig just for the love of it and the money doesn't bother you then this doesn't apply.
9.
Please dig them up and burn them! Then we can all have jacket potatoes
Lol I still hate.... Sorry dislike them, this coming from an Irish man too But yes your right farmers weekly is the place for that kind of chit chat
10. Gig agreed Booking form and deposit sent Cheques paid two weeks in advance or cash on the night If cash on the night, gear is set up and then fee is paid before we go on. Play gig Rock the place f*** off home Get up and do it all again
11.
Milton, you totally miss my point...... I took exception to the abrasive manner with which you dismissed White Cloud - i don't agree with the analogy myself either, but then I'd be polite enough to discuss my different opinion without calling anyone's opinion useless.... It seems I'm flogging a dead horse trying to get you to show a bit of consideration to others - obviously you don't get out much.
Most words have different meaning to most people. I hate potatoes but that doesn't mean I want to dig them all up and burn them. Btw in nearly all your replies you where a bit on the rude side yourself dude " have a word with yourself " and " read this " Obviously it means more to you but that's hardly his fault. D
12. Hi Bert, I have done that on my sr4, I have a fretless neck on it now and it does help a bit. I am still going to take a look at pushing the pole pieces down ! D
13. Fat rich, everyday is a school day !! I had never heard that fix before I might just go and try it out. My SR5 is all perfectly straight my 90 SR 4 has the poles raised on the A and D Cheers for that !!
14. Dr t Is not an issue of me being sensitive but as you quite rightly said its about both points be put forward. There is many stingray fans out there and some take offence to the notion that there might be an issue with a weak g. I too have often heard sterling talk about Leo and how he was so deaf he had to put a screw driver on the bridge of a strat in order to hear it. I did try a pre ebmm stingray once that had no issue at all with the G. It is after all an open forum here and while you have not found a problem with your bass trying to say that it's just an eq issue is unfair. As for the best slap machine I would rather a fender jazz any day for slap tone, I can't deal with the body in all it's off set madness but great tone none the less. But that's my ears yours are clearly different
15. Oh ..... My bongo or my 25th hss never had the problem of the G slipping off or an uneven eq.
16.
There's a simple answer, if you don't like them, buy something different. Like DIngus, I've had (and do have) several Stingrays and don't have this issue in a live or recorded situation. The problem with all basses is if you overscoop the mid range, the upper notes sound less powerful (when stood right in front of your rig) than the lower ones when you're playing with a band. The Stingray has a naturally scooped sound (as does a Fender Jazz and various other basses) - if you overdo the bass EQ and cut the mids (on a 2 band Ray this happens automatically if you put the treble and bass control on full), the lower strings will appear to sound louder than the upper ones - however they actually don't out in the room, although you might not be as present in the mix as you would want if you have the mids scooped too much - the way to get the sound back is to avoid excessive EQ adjustment. This phenomena can be achieved on many basses, but particularly a Fender Jazz with both pick ups on full (scooped sound again). I believe it's an EQ setting issue. I have a Markbass LM3 and if I put the VPF on full (scooped sound) I can create the 'weak G string' sound - well certainly in terms of the sound in front of the rig. Stingrays also respond to having the pick up level adjusted correctly (as per Musicman FAQ info). I've come across the SR5 thing you mention - it's a technique issue - the neck is a nice width for me, but a trade off is the strings get relatively close to the edge but not a problem at all unless you're very inaccurate - the SR5 has certainly been one of the basses used for a lot of recording, and also in live shows - I don't think Elton John would have put up with his bassist constantly pushing the G string off the edge of the fretboard?? For me, a wider neck would be more of an issue in terms of playability than having the G and B strings relatively close to the edge. I guess some people may prefer a wider neck.
Wow nice one so after over 25 playing bass I clearly don't have a clue how to set my eq and my technique sucks, cheers lad Both these issues are well documented on the ebmm and tb websites and even some of the die hard fans have said they have to adjust their technique to suit the SR 5. It's not a big problem for me with either bass and I still have one of each but I don't try to pretend that there is no issue with them or try to blame the players ears or ability. As most people have tried and tested swap the pick up and the problem goes away its a bit fanboi to blame their eq knowledge and playing ability. However not all stingrays seem to suffer this fate, I had an original sub which was perfect and maybe even better that any stingray I have had. I still own and love 2 stingrays a 4 and a 5 but I don't bury my head in the sand about it especially when I can plug in any other bass and both issues disappear.
17. I have had 4 stingrays 4 string and everyone had the same problem I still have an 93 ray and I have the pick up adjusted to try and help. My sr5 does not have this issue, mind you you do have to adjust your technique when playing as the g string has a tendency to slip off the fret board if your not carful. Apparently this is an issue with the sr5 too
18. Pity he was a great drummer, number of the beast was my first IM tape !!
19. Why did he leave maiden, never really knew that for sure
20. I also have one of these , it's one that I hope never to sell I had it from new and I gigged the sh*t out of it back in the 80's and early 90's. The colour was a pearl white and they get more pearl with age, kinda yellow I guess. Mine is missing 2 of the rubber bits off the knobs ! Wasn't as carefull back in the day ! Best of luck with the sale dude D
21. Played one for a about two years Good points Great clear tone with a lot of possibilities Light weight Second hand you can get a near mint one for about half the price of a new one. If you play any sort of metal it will cut through the guitar players amp like a limerick man with a knife Bad points Looks like a toilet seat Bottom horn cuts into your leg when sitting Painted neck chips far too easy Tone is not to everyone's taste Looks like a toilet seat The neck for me was a big issue as I bought it s/h and it had a chip in the middle of the neck right where the 5 th fret is so I could feel it on my thumb all night long. I sanded the whole thing down an it worked out fine. I have a love hate thing with them as I love the tones you can get but I never liked how they look and how they cut the the leg off ya when at home praticing. I would go second hand and hold out for a while as you will get one s/h minty fresh as lots of guys buy them and sell them pretty quick. IMHO a good all round bass, price tag is a bit too high for it and you may want to shift it again. D
22.
And you wonder why we don't wanut to do them..???
And I find it the opposite, bars and clubs are full of muppets who drive you mental at the end of the night. At weddings as soon as the DJ is finished they all bugger off to the residents bar. Plus it's 3 times the money
23.
We do it when required, usually via a laptop. It's more of a playlist that we'll tweak on the fly than full blown DJing but we keep them dancing so it must be doing alright! By the time we're finished with that, the band gear is all packed down and we just have to drop the PA and make a quick escape!
Yeah same here by the time we are finished we are almost packed up so if we stop at 2 we are in the van by 2:15
24.
Nope..because it delays the exit and prolongs the time spent at the gig. We quote for 2 hrs and after that we are packing up.
Over here it's a given that you will quote for both, I used to sub it out to dj's but after being let down by clowns started doing it myself. We tend to be more interactive than most guys who just play a set playlist but that's only because we find it hard to stay off the mic anyway ! The money I was spending on dj's now goes to the band so it's an extra few quid for us It does make for a very long late night however ....
