5. Does anyone know what is the type of putty that is plyable / can be removed easily and does not go hard and used to attach a pickup to a bass / guitar etc. Some pickups come with such putty. Anyone know the make / where to obtain?
6. I am seeking a set of single tuning machines for a cello--anybody know where to obtain?
7. I have an EUB fitted with bass guitar style tuners. Such a hassle in fitting strings.I think the shaft is to short to get enough string wrap on the short shaft. Anybody experienced the same problem? I also play 3/4 acoustic bass. No problem changing strings. Has any EUB players fitted standard DB tuners to their EUB? I realise that the shaft will to be cut down on standard DB tuners to fit the width of the peg head. Anybody done this tuner change on their EUB? Better results?

14. Selling--(or part ex.) my German DB---See my ad. in 'For Sale'.
15. Reluctant to sell my German circa 1880's flat back double bass. A bit of it's history: Bought approx. 30 years ago from a classical player. Has been repaired in the past--but no signs of 'movement' since I have owned the bass. I had the bass set up by Roger Dawson (London area) quite a few years ago for jazz style--new quality tuning machines fitted. Written valuation in 2006 for £7000.Comes with Ehrlund pick up and Ehrlund pre-amp--great sound. Mooradian gig bag included. Would consider a trade / cash adjustment (if necessary) for top quality acoustic fretless bass guitar or top quality--no cutaway (or single cutaway)--single pickup archtop guitar. (Perhaps you have both?)
16. My '2 cents' worth regarding blisters. In my earlier years I tried tape---did'nt feel right. Bare fingers is the way to go for tone & volume. Go through the pain barrier of blisters and blood blisters. After a while--quite a while--the tips of the fingers harden up and no pain, When did you see a good pro. D/B player with plasters? Well worth the effort. One disadvantage though---very difficult to do up shirt buttons!
17. Great replies everybody. Much appreciated with your thoughts -and experience.
18. Great replies Hector & Dad3353---great info. Thanks for that.
19. Questions for the jazz players out there when taking a solo: How do you play your solo's? What percentage of the below questions would you give? From muscle memory? Make up interesting musical phrases? --by going 'outside' of the chord, but adding the chord tones occasionally? Plenty of chromatic notes? When playing a very fast bebop tune how do you have time to think?--By the 'seat of your pants'-- as they say Your knowledge welcome.
20. Thanks everybody for thoughts on my fingerboard question--much appreciated.
21. Thank you for the above replies--much appreciated. I will check the the books out.
22. I want to learn to play in the thumb position. (from the octive G on the 1st string). Scales / Arpeggio's etc. Where can I find information regarding using the correct left hand fingering?
23. Hi Guys Many thanks for your replies. The Eminence has no visible truss rod adjustment. There is no sign of buzz the entire length of the F/B. The distance at the deepest point of the curve--which is at the octave G on the G string--is just over 4mm with the strings under tension, measured from F/B to the bottom of the string. Is that the norm for an EUB? What is your curverature depth at the octave G? The reason for the question was I thought just over 4mm was a bit excessive.
