1. Hi Owen Not sure---say up to £200 top?--New or S/H. My bowing skills would not warrant more. If bought S/H I would have it re-haired.
2. I am thinking of buying a second bow--as a backup--not wanting to 'spend an arm and a leg'. My knowledge of bows is nearly 'zilch'. So your advice most welcome. Various questions: If I bought new bow how would you know the quality of the bow hair? Is it good quality bow hair or synthetic hair? Black or white hair--any difference in volume / tone? Would you go for a carbon fibre bow? What would you expect to pay for a Brazilwood Bow?--new or S/H. What would you expect to pay for a bow re-hair? Would the best bet to go to a reputable dealer who sells bows?--any recommendations? Many thanks.
3. Two hardback books by Raymond Elger. A rare opportunity to buy 2 out of print books.Collectors items. Very informative. 'Looking At The Double Bass'---Contains makers info. and many black and white photos of old double bass's. 'Introduction To The Double Bass'---History/Construction/Strings /Rosin/Pizzicato/The Bow/Methods. Makers and black and white photos. Both books used condition. Both books for £85 inc. p&p PM me.
4. Wanting to try a set of Spirocore Weichs on a 3/4 bass. Send me a PM with details: How old the strings are / condition--and strings must be the full length. (Not cut off at the tuning key).
5. I was just wondering: I have 2 D/B's and one EUB. On one of my bass's I have a set of Evah Weichs on. I like the tension of the Weichs. Sounds pretty good on both pizz. & arco. Have you tried Evah Weichs and tried another make of strings which sound better than the Evah Weichs on both pizz. & Arco? For you classical guys who play arco most of the time which make of string do you prefer? Just to mention: I have played pizz for many years and only just began on arco. For those who have never played arco get a bow and try arco---very therapeutic--love it--great for intonation. Should have got into arco years go--opens up a whole new world out there. (That's my '2 cents' opinion anyway).
6. Many thanks guys for all your info. much appreciated. A lot to think about. The type of gigs I play?--Small venue's / Trio / Quartet. Music style?-mixture of jazz / bluegrass'ey style. Nothing heavy--I leave that to the other guys!
7. For many years I have used my trusty GK MB150 combo. Never once let me down--a truly great combo amp--would be sorry to let it go. As age is getting the better of me I would be looking for something lighter--perhaps two separates?-or combo? Are you guys more up to date than I am?--gone for the lighter option? But has it the quality of the GK.? The sort of gigs I do are the smaller venue type---not 'on the rock' circuit. What do you use? Combo or separates? Are Mini (Micro) amps good? Speaker size? Bearing in mind my GK has a 12" speaker--do the smaller speakers of today have the same depth of note as the old 12" type speaker? (I remember in my youth I used to cart around a 'Vox Foundation' bass cab.--18" speaker---AAA--hhh--hhhhh--h !! Happy days! )
8. New to bass guitar. (Double Bass player). My question is: Those of you who have experienced playing a semi-acoustic B/G with a built in pickup system and playing a full bodied acoustic B/G and fitting your own pickup. Is there a notable difference in the depth of the note played on a full bodied acoustic B/G?-- both instruments on the same amp setting. Your experience's welcome.
9. Hi Artisan The Evah Weichs have now been on the D/B now for a few days. Bearing in mind they were bought S/H this is my '2 cents' worth: I like them. They both bow and pizz. very well. May be tempted one day to buy a new set. (Bare in mind that everybody has different tastes).
10. Question for acoustic fretless bass guitar players: What do you consider the best full bodied acoustic fretless bass guitar on the market?--in terms of pickup / workmanship / playability quality? Your experiences welcome. Many thanks.
11. Sure is. Great sound. Lovely instrument to play. Reason for sale?---no longer play bluegrass style.

18. Many thanks for your replies--much appreciated.
19. Many thanks for your replies.
20. Thank you fellow D/B gentlemen. A great help. And Geoff--a great video regarding the bow--answers all my questions. Thank you. A couple of further questions regarding the bow: a) Is a gig bag a good place to keep the bow for protection?--or to buy a bow case? Do you have more than one bow? Would a pro. classical bassist rosin their bow several times--say for a 2 hour concert? no doubt their experience will tell them when the notes are not 'pure'?
21. When bowing should the bow hair ever touch the stick? If the hair does touch the stick and should not, would you consider a new bow? What do you consider the best make of strings for arco and pizz?--good tone and volume for both styles. What strings have you tried? Answers most welcome.
22. Anybody bowed Innovation strings? Good results?
23. Anybody tried rosin made by D'Addario?--If so--like it? Rosin to avoid? Your preferences? Advice welcome. Many thanks.
