  1. Interesting topic. I have played DB for years--mostly jazz. My experience is: I tend to play 'On top of the beat'--that is drive the band. Most bands have no problem with that. Some bands tend to play more 'laid back'--you adjust. If you play in a Bluegrass band they tend to play on top of the beat--more drive than swing. I have played in an 'Americana' style band--told me off a number of times for 'speeding up'--I don't think so as I am playing on top of the beat--They play a laid back style. My conclusion is you adjust to the style of the band.
  2. Anybody tried the Yamaha SLB-100 Silent Upright Bass? Or the Yamaha SLB200 Silent Double Bass? Any difference between the two? Body shape only? Have you tried other EUB's? If so how do they rate to the other EUB's ot there ?
  3. Hi guys--thanks for the replys . The Rev--thanks for the contact--cpc have what I want. Staggering on--Yea--My Eminence sounds great.
  4. I play an Eminence EUB. Where you 'plug in' you attach the cable via a double 1/4" connector--see attachment. I require a new one. I have searched the web to no avail---they must be out there. If you know where I could obtain one--new or S/H do get in touch--one lurking in your electrical 'odd & ends' drawer maybe?
  5. As Geoff said do both. if your 'geting on in years' like myself and on a long gig it is great to sit down.
  6. Yes--had a 'wedge' fitted to my German double bass (Circa 1880's) fitted years ago--plays great both pizz & arco. Incidentally due to my age -old age--the bass in question is up for sale. Now play EUB. Anyone interested send me a PM and will forward details.

  11. I would be dubious about a DB stand that has no neck support. How sturdy are the ones you have made?---meaning that having no neck support. Are the bass's 'kept out of harms way? ' Some guys don't like/use stands on gigs--I use a stand and I think putting a bass on a stand is safer than laying it down on the floor--even band members accidentally will knock into them. I did hear of a bassist who after a gig put his DB on the floor to pack up and one of the band accidentally walked into the bass and broke the neck of the bass--a costly gig!

  14. Hi Kevin Like you I have played pizz for years. 'Messed' about with the bow--self taught. Recently got serious about the bow. Decided to get more serious about the bow. Found a pro orchestral double bassest. One of the best things I have ever done. There is so much to learn about the bow. 'Opened my eyes'as they say about bowing--and about the bass. My recommendation is to find a good classical orchestral player---well worth it.
