Thank you gentlemen for all your info. regarding the cleaning of strings--much appreciated. Yes--the copper strings mentioned are Velvet Garbo's.

What do you use to clean your strings? I have steel / nylon / copper strings to clean. 'Isopropanal' has been recommended--but hard to get. I have a spray can of 'Maplin's Switch Cleaner'. Has anybody used it for string cleaning? It says on the can: 'A general purpose cleaning solvent that removes stains,coatings,printing inks,oil,grease and dirt. Highly efficient switch cleaner. Safe on most plastics.' Any Bass playing chemists out there?

My humble '2 cents' worth on the slap style. I have been learning to slap now for a while--I can slap at double/triple at a good rate but finding quadruple slap harder at speed--and trying to mix the slaps and keep time difficult. I will keep at it. I really admire the guys that can do that. One thing I have noticed that quite a few of the slappers do not have good intonation. The Bass guy who does it for me is Milt Hinton---He has the lot, including acoustic sound & tone. That probably comes from his great jazz background--One of my favourite Bass players.

I have an Aria copy of the Gibson 335. Having not played a Gibson 335 would that be the better sound for a jazz'ier sound? Does the Gibson have better pickups? If I changed the pickups on the Aria what would you recomend for a good jazz sound?

I have a beat up old bass in need of restoration and I want to have it adapted for slap style .Do you know of anybody who has done this type of work before?To re-inforce the internal parts---re-inforce the neck---new F/B---all in all a complete restoration job. Many thanks.

Hi Guys Thanks for the replies. Where's it for?---gigs mainly. The floor is the best option but most gigs floor space is limited. It is surprising the number of front line muso's that will walk into the bass when on the floor! It as you know big enough to be seen---Perhaps before a gig is to issue out 'specs for everybody. A corner is great but not all gigs have suitable corners---bar area/table/chairs/TV-etc. in the way.

What do you consider to be the best Double Bass stand available? (ie: one that won't fall over!) Your thoughts most welcome.
