1. Thanks for all the input guys, going to try out everything suggested
2. Ah sorry should of stated that, it has to be able to stand on it's own for smaller pub/ club gigs. We do have a PA. I'm not a big fan of stand alone 2x10 to be honest as they sound a little gutless to me, what do you use though as I'd be interested to check it out. I've tried the Eden, Peavey, Hartke and Laneys.
3. Hey folks, just after a bit of advice with my cab. I currently run a markbass tube800 into a markbass 410hr. This has been fine and i've been happy with it sound wise but even though it's super light for a 4x10, I really can't cope with a 4x10 any more because of the size and weight with my crippled back. So this got me thinking, years ago I gigged with a 2x12 and until I blew the cab (I didn't understand watts and ohms then lol) I was happy with it. So I've been looking at 1x12 cabs and was wondering how you think just having one until I can afford a second would sound under gig conditions. I'm going up to Bass Direct in a few weeks to check out Vanderkley 112MNT has this appeals the most from sound clips i've heard and reviews i've read but need to hear it for myself. Interested to hear your views?
4. Not sure if i've posted these before but here's my pride and joy, got another in different colours with different pickups and maple neck being done at the moment. This one now has Lace pickups in Got a strat and a mesa F50 amp, sweet lol
5. ^^^^^ What the other guys have said. The urinals are quite amusing if anything. What date are you playing, I live near by so will come along if i'm not already playing or teaching
6.
I'm always amazed that folks forget that big amps with many watts can play quietly; they have this 'magic' control normally found on the far right of the amp... shame our guitarist doesn't understand this!
very true but the only thing I would say in their defence is that I know my Mesa guitar amp sounds better when driven. To the topic, I run my Markbass tube800 head with a single 4x10 cab (which is small), so it's maxing at 500watts and this is more loud enough, if it needs to be louder it's D.I'd so no I don't see the point in massive rigs.
7. Was in London over the weekend and popped down Denmark street and saw they have finally gone. Really anyone in the know wouldn't bother there anyway as The Gallery is a few tube stops on. Popped into the gallery on the hunt for a Roscoe to play, unfortunately they only had a 6 string so didn't try it. Purchased a nice mono strap in there though. I'm yet to buy a bass or amp from The Gallery but it's only due to situation, Alex provides fantastic knowledge and service. I'm now after a Roscoe which I need to go to bass direct for, very helpful on the phone just need to make the car trip there. When I purchased my Markbass rig last year I had played it in a local shop to me, Fretz in Hemel Hempstead, and the manager Barry is a top guy so I promised i'd buy it from him (and did). I wanted to try an Eden rig out and made the trip to the gallery but explained to Alex even though he also sold the Tube800 head I had promised to buy it from Fretz and he still gave me great service and totally respected that. On a note about sound control, the nearest branch to me was Milton Keynes. I bought my Mesa Boogie F50 guitar amp from them and I remember the great service I got from them after the horrific service from GAK, they are missed round this way. Funny story about them, this idiot I know used to try and be flash with his cash so would buy ultra expensive gear in front of his mates then return it a week later claiming he needed something better (basically he couldn't afford it). He bought a microphone for £1000 from sound control then went back a week later to get his money back and the store had shut down so he was stuck with it lol
8. Great find thank you. I remember seeing Herbie in London, I was in the front row in the middle and the gig was set up in 5.1. surround sound lol. Amazing.
9. You got a website to listen to some stuff? Age range?
10. Having a clear out of stuff I don't use any more and got a Boss Metal Zone MT2. Don't use it simply because I bought a Mesa Boogie amp that has more than enough distortion for me me. There is slight wear around where your foot touches but other than that it's all good. Comes in the original box, I don't have the manual any more but it's pretty obvious what to do. Can upload pics if needed. £25 is you pick it up, £30 if you want it posted. Thanks for looking SOLD SOLD SOLD SOLD
11. Now I feel like a better fretless player lol.
12. Oh yeah and pickups and EQ. Whats good whats not? What do I look for?
13. Cheers for the replies guys, I hadn't thought about leads before but I am very carefull (feed them through strap with plenty of slack on them so it shouldn't be that. Couldn't hurt for me to change to using angled cables just to be sure though, good tip on the sprung collars, don't think i'll risk buying one. fonzoooroo think I will order one of those up!
14. OK here we can see the outside crack, sorry best photo I can get as I don't have my macro lens to hand. I was thinking of trying to find or make a metal plate that the jack socket is suspended on or when I change the electrics make one of the tone pots a stackable and then using one of those holes for a jack input
15. Ok deep breath taken, i'm calmer now The problem I can see with the jack socket is it's cracked the finish/wood and won't actually stay tight anymore, any recommendations on a style I can use instead? I'll take a picture so you can see the problem
16. Cheers the reply buddy, Im happy with the feel of the instrument. The pickups have a horrible buzzing sometimes and don't really sound all that, they are ok but I think I have some sort of phasing issue (possibly) that comes and goes, I can't describe it but I sometimes get an odd chorusy echoy sound then it returns to normal. Don't worry I wouldn't actually set fire to it all lol, i'm just pissed off with it thats all. When I've been looking at pickup sets I can see it's gonna be about £250 for everything, I don't even know where to start with different brands. In my guitars I went through this nightmare before finding Lace pickups.
17. Right folks i'm gonna need to get my only 5 string bass fixed or get a new 5 string bass as i've been called up for two bands, like buses none then 3 came along, had to turn one down due to lack of time! Anyway the bass is a Yamaha RBX375 which some of you may have seen my rants about it. To cut a very long story short the barrell jack is knackerd yet again on it, the electrics inside have been bodged once already and are on the blink again. Basically the bass is ungigable. So i'm thinking: *Change the jack barrell for one of those ones that's actually screwed into the body on a plate *Rip all the electronics and pickups out and replace with decent pickups and EQ board. My question, is this actually worth it on a £300 bass or should I use it for firewood and look for another bass? I'll do the jack socket anyway as i'll then be ok to practice with but the electronics will need to be sorted asap. This only needs last another year till the Roscoe fund is ready so I don't know what to do
18. I don't know anything about them but £300 for a new 5 string bass and amp sounds like a good starter package to me.
19. Agree'd with the other comments, but turning the sound off and looking at the band the other points would be the nervous rocking side to side the singer does and the shoe gazing from yourself and the guitarist. In my experience people loose interest in a band if you ignore them and stare at your feet/ fret board. I agree that singers should be trying to keep the audience by having stage precence but then so should everyone else. Again just being honest and I don't mean to offend
20. In my last band being likened to Billy Sheehan, I just accept the compliment but it was only because I got so bored I'd spice it up with a few fast runs, nothing like Billy but I guess thats the only fast bass player they know lol
21.
The regular MarkBass LittleMark tone is gorgeous, quite warm and organic naturally and can do hi-fi quite nicely too. As much as the tone appeals to me, I'm not sure if it would be my first choice for heavy rock, especially if you're used to the Ampeg sound. Not sure about the Rocker, however I have heard the the LittleMark Tube sounds almost exactly the same as the regular one. Just my 2p Eude
I was in a heavy rock/ metal band when I got the tube800 and the tone is fine for that style. Your right about the tube head sounding like the normal one but you can blend in the amount of tube preamp. All the way to SS it does sound exactly like the others, all the way to tube I find a little too wooly for my liking. 12 o clock (so both) IMO gives the best tone
22. This has been an interesting read as i'm after a rack tuner soon. My Korg DT-3 tuner (normal style) has lasted ages and it's great but I think i'll save a little longer and get the Peterson. Strangely the tuner I downloaded for my iphone is to fine point more accurate than my Korg lol.
23. I've got the mark bass tube 800, must admit I havn't tried the rocker out but I love the tube800 as it has a massive range of tone!

Yamahas
Whoever charges £80 for a replacement jack, that is a terrible shop and you need to look elsewhere! Even if that's the quote from Yamaha, then that's so easily fixable it should be doable in-shop for far less. Sorry to hear you got stung like that. Those 374s are great basses.
Re-read my post dude, that was to get the pickups lacquered as well. Edit:- just remembered this was to fix the truss rod which and locked up inside and then to get the bass resetup as well
