i agree with the dont drive thing, stayed out there a few years ago for a holiday and my mates dad (who lived out there) nearly got us killed nearly every day!

sleeping bag, spare strings/cables/picks if you use them, baby wipes (for a tour shower), clean undies, tooth brush, resolve/alka seltzer. everything else is just optional!

i used to be in a band that was all about volume, we were probably a nightmare, both guitarists has 2 4x12s each and very loud guitar amps, and i was blasting an 8x10 (still am!) we used to turn up all the time and get knacked for it! but we used to love having it loud behind us, we were a doom metal band! that was when i used to play for fun! (and for pennies) so i never saw it as a job! since i started playing session work i realized that its not my ability and how much people can hear me that matters, at the end of the day if i am employed by someone to play a set i am exactly doing that i wouldn't come to work during the day and tell my boss to stick it because he asked me to do what i get paid for, exactly the same in a band, if someone is paying you to play their songs you are playing their songs not your take on it, same with volume levels. in short, i agree.
