8" speakers
I think that most sound below 50hz is barely audible anyway. Most of what you hear from a bass is well above that. An old cab that I sometimes use for practising has a 12" guitar speak in it, it sounds fine with a bass through it (it is a proper ported bass cab...)
The frequency of a low B on bass guitar is about 31Hz, thus it's important to have the correct speaker / cabinet to be able to reproduce this with any kind of 'volume'.

Smaller speakers give you a quicker ('tighter') response. You'll need to be careful to select speakers appropriate to bass and using these into a properly designed 'tuned' cabinet can often improve bass frequency response. I use a couple of PJB 4B cabinets which have four 5.5" speakers. These are rated at a frequency reposne of 35Hz to 15kHz and are quite phenominal in the 'bass' department.
3. You could try www.status-graphite.com for around £25 and superb service.
4.
Is that you Wil? I just bought me a Series 2000 fretless! Take care mate! Nick
Yes it is Nick. Hope you're keeping well. Wil
One of the things I have seen so often is people buying gear rather than getting the best out of what they have, work with you gear and find out where its lacking rather than you will be in a better place to judge what you want or need.
+1
8. Buying a bass is a very personal thing. Try as many as you can before you buy. As already stated by others, for a new bass in that range, Yamaha are probably good value for money. If you want something you can sell on easily later without losing money, try and get hold of a SH Mexican Fender or you could go for a new Squire. Good luck.
9. Sounds like you're being very (if not too) reasonable. They're taking the p*ss.
10. I usually go to www.status-graphite.com, at £23.50 for a 6 string flatwound set (not bad), great British Company, fantastic service...
11. If you're happy with the sound & finish, there's no need to add anything more. Wear would be minimal with flatwounds in any case.
12. Hmmmm... shouldn't it have the 'stripe' down the back of the neck for the trusrod (given it's a maple board)? Looks dodgy...

14.
The Police were the first band I discovered outside of my parents record collection. Zenyatta Mondatta was my favourite album. I always rated Sting as a bass player. So Lonely, Canary in a Coalmine, Man in a Suitcase. He was working with a great drummer too
+1 Zenyatta Mondatta was the first vinyl album I ever bought. I've been a fan ever since. It's still one of my favourite albums.
15. Sometimes the tension can seem more if the action is higher. The tension should be identical for the same string gauges when applied to the same scale length even on different basses.
16. Try not to do things 'quickly', but rather start of slow and build up speed gradually. Scales are a great way to build technique and speed when applied slowly to start with. Above all practice, practice and practice. And if that doesn't work practice some more. Good luck.
17. My Strata used to belong to Paul Westwood, who would've used it on various sessions during the 80's...
18.
That is a truly magnificent specimen. Did you put it up on the Strata register at statii.com yet? Rich
Hi Rich, I did indeed put it up on Statii.com some while ago.
19. Neck pocket fit is too good for it to be a real F*nder...
