1. My Dingwall came with one of these gigbags and I'd really like another. Anyone know where I can get one?
2. Lol a lightweight compared to the T40. It was around 10lbs. Not heavy by many peoples standards.
3. I had a 1024 and was blown away with the sound - shame it was a bit heavy and Yamaha quality control left a lot to be desired. I'd have another if I could find a lighter one.
4. Right I get it. Thanks guys
5. As in, what does that actually mean? Cutting top end? Ive heard it mentioned with Stingrays a lot. Is that the complete opposite of an active (majorly bass boosted) precision (my preferred sound)?
6. I could always buy a new pickup - don't mind the idea of routing the body as it's had a bad relic job anyway!! How difficult is cutting and fitting a new nut? Obviously the bridge isn't an issue, and I've already changed tuners on the bass. Might have a trial run with my SX...
7. Cool thanks for that. Pretty obvious when you think about it!!
8. Been having a problem with a Jazz neck on my Precision, and could do with a 5 string. Is it just a case of buying a new 5 string neck and bridge or am I missing something? Obviously the neck will have to be a 34''.
9. Fwiw I've had about 30 basses in the last 5 years and found that I can only get the sound in my head (or is that out of my head???) with active basses. Don't get on with Jazz basses ( bought a Sadowsky Jazz untried off here, thinking an expensive Jazz would fit better in the band than a cheap Jazz...it didn't...and I ended up spending more than the initial purchase cost on pickups/different eqs and luthier time...). For me, precision pickup, active 2 band EQ and either DR Sunbeams or bizarrely GHS Boomers seems to get me what I want. The tone I like tends to be quite dubby - despite the fact I play mostly pop rock
10. I'm thinking about getting an MTD Artist, but have no way of trying it first. Just wondered what people's experiences of the weight were? Average, light or heavy? Really can't cope with a heavy bass... Realise it depends on the piece of wood, just wondered what people's experiences were??
11. Yeah sorry. From normal playing position the neck has too much relief ie bends forward. Fully tightening the truss rod makes no difference
12. I'm trying to straighten the neck by turning the screw clockwise
13. I've got a US 1996 62ri Jazz neck on my Precision. It's sat around completely untouched for a couple of years. Went to set it up tonight and I can't get the neck to straighten. With the nut fully tightened there is still a lot of bend (err relief??) bending to the right when sighting down the neck. Truss nut turns freely. Adjustment is at the heel. Any ideas? Or am I looking for a new neck
14. Yeah but I'm not selling an item with a vague idea of location...no wonder you can't sell it Oh and just for you I've updated my location
15. I didn't realise the BTBs were made in Japan, but there's an ex demo for sale on eBay in Italy (sorry can't get a link from my iPad) which states MIJ. Are they any good? Don't even know what model it is? Looks like a 675 in Walnut.
16. I like to do my homework with basses and have eventually found 'my' 4 string, however new band requires a lot of drop D/ even lower stuff. Using a basss extender at the moment, but seriously thinking about getting a 5. I used to have an OLP Levin, but can't remember why I sold it....I'm sure it wasn't the string spacing, I 'think' it was due to the weight and quality (compared to my other basses) and maybe sound too. I seemed to go quite easily between 16mm and all my other basses 18mm without any problem. So here's the deal. I want to use 5 and 4 strings with the band, anything wider than a Jazz neck has always caused problems at the first position (ie Precision B and C necks), Dingwall ABZ 4 strings were uncomfortable at the first position due to the reach (although I loved the neck shape everywhere else and loved the lack of weight - not keen on the sound). Would I be using first position with a 5 much though?? Never had a problem with 4 string Stingrays but never liked the sound or weight. Sound wise, I really like an old school thump with very little top end. Opposite of clanky, almost dubby. Playing Rock (Foos/GNR etc) and girly pop rock (Anastasia, U2 ). I really like active Precision pickups - it's the only thing that seems to cut through - my Shuker has a Precision pickup in a soap bar housing which sounds perfect. Bass must be active - I just cannot get enough umph with the amp EQ settings of passive basses??!! Sorry for the info overload, I've £600 to spend plus could possibly throw in an ACG Gallus... What should I shortlist? Oh and I've a dodgy back, so lighter the better!!??!!
17. Can I ask what the reluctance is to state where you live? No one is asking for your actual address, but surely the nearest big city would help as 'North of the border' is quite a large area...
18.
I hope us bass players don,t have to be ugly, short, fat ,bald members who have to hide at the side of the stage
Oh bollocks, I'm in trouble...
19. Never thought about Daphne blue before - seems to really suit Rosewood (and is the current favourite). Anyone got any thoughts on Firemist?
20. On similar lines, using the back button from an iPad doesn't always work and the same page reloads??
21. Wont be me doing the spraying
22. I'm painting my Precision but can't decide on a colour. If I had a maple neck, then it would be LPB without a doubt, but I have a rosewood neck and am a bit stuck. Going for a bit of a vintage vibe, scratch plate will not be tort as I can't stand it, probably parchment. I'm thinking Candy Apple Red...what do you reckon?
23. I'm wanting to get back into effects, but everything seems lost when the rest of the band start playing. Am I doing something fundamentally wrong? Can hear my bass tone great without effects, but can never really hear much of any effects. Would using a guitar amp for some of the more top end type effects help? Thinking about Chrous/distortion etc.
