I've just bought a Hondo 2 Sd Curlee style bass off ebay and the D string is too low and frets out half way up the neck. The other strings are fine. The string visibly looks too low. Looking at the bridge, I can't adjust the individual saddle heights. I'm reluctant to raise the entire treble side of the bridge as happy with the G height. Is this a known issue with this style of bridge? Am I just going to have to compromise? Could it be G string nut height?

Yeah thanks for that - I'm aware of the HB instruments and am tempted to go that route. On a related topic - what happened to the Overwater by Tanglewood basses? They seem to have completely disappeared.

I've recently come back to the bass after a long time away. In the past there was always some bass bargain which punched well above it's weight - I was into the SX thing and still have a highly moded Jazz. Then I remember the Squier VM line, so is there an equivalent these days? I guess I'm talking about a prime modding platform with a decent quality finish on the body. Thanks.

Kind of on topic... I had two mini AV reissue cabs that were ace. Light, loud and reasonably cheap. Wish I'd never sold them.

Looking for a female singer to help write melodies and lyrics. Have loads of melody ideas/chord structures and partially written songs. I can't sing so need someone who can help me write and then sing. Predominantly looking for someone who can work online - email collaboration/sending files back and forth. I'm a 37 year old guitarist/bassist and can appreciate most forms of music. Been in a few bands, mostly bass playing although did do some guitar teaching years ago. I grew up with Guns n Roses, Bon Jovi and Metallica. I have a feeling the music I am writing is mostly softer stuff - think more Sheryl Crowe and Howling Bells. I'm not looking for the best singer in the world, I just have a few ideas I want to record. Want to get something down for my kids before I die... Want someone who can share ideas every few days and record bits once per week to be sent to each other. Decided to try this online as I work shifts and have been let down by someone who consistently failed to turn up. If you live in Yorkshire we could meet up every month or something. I'm in Hull.

I'm completely confused. I have recently come back to music after a 5 year lay off and have hooked up with a singer to write some original material. I had a dabble with Cubase and a powered controllable mixer years ago but have since sold the lot. I have a background in computer programming and am quite computer literate. Have an i5 laptop and a Galaxy tab s. I need to record and am debating whether to get a sound card such as a Focusrite Solo into a daw or whether I'd be better off keeping it simple and using a portastudio such as the dp006, which I could then stick the tracks into a daw at a later date/if I run out of track space without bouncing. Added to my dilemna is the need for guitar effects - I was going to buy a cheap Pod XT to tide me over. I like the immediacy of a hardware recorder but are they a bit old hat now? I can only really spend around £100 otherwise a Pod HD may have been the solution using as an interface and for effects. Any thoughts people?

Been looking at the redsub 500 head...but what cab would I pair it with?

After a few years away I'm starting to develop the desire to play again. Problem is that I sold my amp and cabs...and I'm looking to gig again. I amassed quite a lot of nice basses which have slowly been sold off leaving me with a few including my Sadowsky which I would never part with. This just leaves me needing an amp but I'm not flush for cash anymore. I'll be looking at going into a twin guitar setup playing hard rock stuff - Velvet Revolver type music. From previous experience I know I need loads of power and I've a dodgy back so Peavey stuff is out. Throughout my previous bass life I could never get my head around some high powered amps being quiet (PF500) so I understand I can't go on solely wattage alone. Best sounding previous setup was Genz Benz Shuttle 312 with a 2x10 extension cab but I feel I was missing something and would possibly like to try 15s. Budget wise, absolute maximum of £300 but closer to £200. If I wait til the new year I could possibly turn that into £500...Any ideas? As you can probably gather from my last rig I hate weight, which I reckon is going to be my biggest problem.
