  2. Outstanding basses….. crazy comfortable to play. I miss my Starfire very much. The Korean factory’s know what they’re doing.
  3. I've loved Mick Karn and Wal basses since the 80s when I first heard Japan. For me, way more influential and dare I say more interesting than Jaco was.
  4. Oh blimey I need one now….. love Glenn
  5. My Rexalike Tokai TB (the one in my avatar) cost me a hundred quid plus maybe another hundred for the gold Gotoh tuners and bridge, and the Home Of Tone wiring loom. I'll bet it's every bit as good as this Epi offering, and probably better. I'll reserve judgement until I've tried one of course. The Gibson is way out of my reach, but does this bridge the gap? I dunno.
  6. I hear that. I think the original one looked very cool.... this one is absolutely beautiful, love it. I know about all the reviews, cheap, nasty, uncomfortable..... but man it looks lovely.
  7. There are great basses and s**t basses, regardless of the origin of the manufacturer. My Chinese Tokai Thunderbird is my number 1 bass. It's the only bass I use live. Admittedly I've modded it pretty significantly, but the pickups and the neck/body are original. It's awesome. I love it and the band love it. I have 12 other basses, Warwick and Ibanez etc... but the Tokai is number 1. It doesn't matter who made it, where it was made, when it was made, or how much it's worth. If it's good it's good. If it's s**t it's s**t.
  8. Ugly ridiculous and overpriced. It will of course sell out very quickly. What a mad world we live in.
  9. It is frankly preposterous that this is still here.
  10. Whoever I’m in the mood for on the day. I’m influenced by so many, far too many to list.
  11. Yeah saw that….. expensive….. but everything is at the moment. It’s weird that the full fat Gibson version (which is very expensive) doesn’t even have the pickups Rex likes in it…. very odd. It’ll be interesting to see how the Epi version measures up… I haven’t read the spec yet.
  12. She was very kind to me, and had some nice words about my voice after the first thing I recorded on Radio 1 in the 80s. I never forgot that complement. Very sad indeed.
  13. Clean...... turn it up, plenty of mids, P bass or Thunderbird, old school. Pedals? Cobblers.
  14. My old Streamer was grim when I bought it. Also I don’t think the guy had ever waxed it. It was very dry and just, dirty. It hasn’t had much love, but then I got it very cheap.
  15. Yes that would work. A citrus (acidic) cleaner will remove any surface contamination prior to coating with wax. I actually used Muc-Off, the same cleaner I use for my mountain bike. It’s biodegradable and removed the dirt from my Streamer very nicely with no ill effects. Also your assumption with regards to cleaning before waxing is correct. Overcoating the dirt with wax will just work it in not remove it.
  16. The average attention span for a video (I know because I had an art related channel) is about 10 seconds. Many of those initial clicks have already moved on after 10 seconds. It’s a relatively small number of enthusiasts who stick around for longer, and most of those viewers don’t watch all the way to the end of the video. It’s a cutthroat game, making long form content, and as said above, Gregor Fris has got it nailed with Bass The World. The world is so fast and instant now. It’s frankly astounding to me that print is still a thing when it comes to consumer product information.
  17. The print magazines became increasingly full of advertisements in order to try and survive. It became so irritating that every other page was an ad, that I gave up on all of them.
  18. No problem at all, if you’re stuck, let me know. Good strings… Ernie Ball 45-100, the pink packet, great strings and easily available. 👍🏻
  19. I’m in Macclesfield, but I go all over the country for work. Where in Lincolnshire?
  20. Ok, I’d be happy to have a look at it if it’s any help? If you trust me enough to take it away for a couple of days? Just get yourself a set of strings and I’ll put them on for you and give it a quick setup. Obviously if there’s an electrical issue that’s a different story, and it would need some professional help, but I’d be happy to have a look at it. Ibanez SR basses, all of them at all price points are great basses. £80 is a bargain if it can be set up nicely.
