Yep, I echo all of that, and yes, I’m happy to have the maple board, however if I were you, I’d slap a coat of Monty’s aging wax on the pao ferro to darken it.

So….. developments….. 😒 Great bass, very happy, except…. I’ve discovered that the mid cut/boost pot is faulty….. so a new one is on the way from Allparts. Not the end of the world, I’m quite happy replacing parts, but, I suspect that the young man I got this bass from knew full well that there was an issue, and just crossed his flamin fingers that I wouldn’t spot it. Annoying, because I’m a very honest person when it comes to selling my stuff, so it’s a bit of a kick in the stones when someone tries to pull a fast one. Just remember….. never trust anyone when it comes to buying and selling. Always be on full alert and check everything. Anyway….. a great bass, and I’ll have it firing on all cylinders shortly.

So I bought one….. Initial reports are good…. it feels good, but…. two loose pots caused me to open it up and have a look…. Christ! What a dogs dinner under there…. Scary stuff, but thankfully it was just a couple of loose nuts that needed tightening, all good now. I like the top hat knobs the previous owner put on it, so I’ll leave those on for now. All re-strung and ready to go, I’ll see how it performs in rehearsal.

So after months of no activity, I’ve finally finished this bass off, pretty much. Just a bridge cover left to fit. It’s been a bit of a journey to get this thing up and running, and it’s far from perfect, but then I doubt it was perfect when it was new. I Ended up relocating the bridge to get the strings to go over the pole pieces correctly, and to get some level of intonation, which to be frank, is only really there or thereabouts even now. I Also had to make a decision on the non functional pickups, and in the end, I forked out to have them completely rebuilt by House of Tone pickups in Chester. Fabulous job, but way more in cost than the bass is worth. The tuners are junk, but they’ll have to do for now. I’m not spending any more money on this thing. All in all, I’ve saved a junked 1960s/70s Kay/Teisco bass, and have ended up with a fun bass, very different from my others and very cool indeed. Proper old school tone with the nylon tapes, but still plenty of sparkly top if needed. Great little vintage short-scale bass.

Ditto 👆🏻 He’s making great solo music, and I’m also a supporter on bandcamp. If you haven’t already, check him out. It’s been 20 years since I last saw him play live though, I really need to pull my finger out there.

Cheers mate, thanks very much for all that. I’ve heard good things, and I think one would make a good addition to the Thunderbirds I use live, and one song in particular would be helped by an active tone. Nice one, appreciate that.

Beautiful bass, but at the end of the day, I just don’t play it at all, which is a crying shame honestly. Here is Shaggys original description: ”1998 German made Warwick FNA bass (Corvette body shape, though it was never designated a Corvette). Lightweight swamp ash body with carved flame maple top, ebony pinstripe “binding” line in between. Amber “antique violin” finish, which seems to be a thin satin lacquer. Fully recessed Warwick straplocks (strap ends also supplied), gold plated hardware. Preamp (original factory fitted): Seymour Duncan 3-band 9V active circuit voiced specifically for MusicMan Stingray, with “slap bias” switching on vol control. Neck: Long (34’) scale 24-fret in ovangkol, with wenge board and JAN adjustable nut. Regularly waxed, so beautifully smooth. 2 mods to this bass: Original ceramic MEC pickup replaced with Aguilar AG 4M (Alnico V) MusicMan pickup; based on the original 1970’s MusicMan Stingray pickup. I personally much prefer the tone on this to the MEC; it’s slightly more scooped with prominent low mids, more growl and punch yet also more clarity. Original pickup included. Original neck swapped with one from a 2001 German made Warwick Streamer LX Jazzman. This was only because I preferred a slightly slimmer neck on the Streamer, and a slightly wider P profile neck on this bass. This has been my “go to” gigging bass over the last 6 years or so, simply because it’s so comfortable and ergonomic to play, and just always sounds good. I’ve never played another single-pickup bass so responsive to changes in right hand technique, whether with pick or fingers.” It’s a really fabulous thing, but just doesn’t get used. Trades…. Fender Jazz or a Yamaha BB (Japan) is favourite, we’re also looking for a decent double bass here at Rayman towers. I would rather get cash to be honest, but you can always ask. Very cool little venue last night, Percy’s in Whitchurch. Decent sound via 2 x Orange 1x15s, although I still prefer my 4x10. The Greco is such a pleasure to play too….. great bass.

Good one last night in Queensferry, great venue. Montitor sound was great until the ****ing drummer complained about too much bass and vocals. The sound man took that as “take all the bass and vocals out of the monitors” and it all went to s***. Anyway, sounded good out front apparently 🤘🏻

Decent gig in Wrexham last night, and a great one in Chesterfield the night before…… I used the Tokai through a house rig last night and the Greco in Chesterfield. Warwick Fortress for one D tuned song.

Full refund from PayPal received today. Unbelievably the seller messaged me and said he couldn't contact me before, because he (or she) had lost their phone while on holiday. Yes, of course. I left them scathing feedback and blocked them. Bought a nice Ibanez instead. Result.

A bit later….. Lovely thing to play, low action, great low end dub tone with the tone pot rolled 3/4 off. Not massively high output, but I can live with that. A bit surprised I guess, but not a problem, I can turn the amp up. One my favourite basses, the Warwick Streamer Standard is exactly the same. Fab tone but low output. No problem at all. So, very happy 👍🏻

NBD Very nice, early 90s MIJ, quality thing. Surprisingly light, ash, passive, really great tone via an old set of Roto flats. I spent an hour polishing the frets, not much else to do with it, cracking bass.

I’m passionate about my lyrics. Despite being in a rock/metal band, our songs mean something, and I work hard on the words. Some of our songs are actually quite painful for me to sing, as a couple of exes feature in them. Our latest song is political and environmental and is a bit of a departure lyrically from our normal subjects. I Despise mindless metal lyrics in particular, but any lyrics that have clearly been ‘written’ to fit the music, without any real effort to tell a story are c**p, in my opinion.

I thought that was a possibility, but no, it is indeed a fake account. PayPal have stepped in and are investigating, so I’m not overly concerned about the money at this point. I’m confident it’ll be resolved.
