  1. What a great place Basschat is. A goldmine of information, support, conversation and of course GAS. I’ve been on here a long time, like many of you have. Some of you may be new, if you are, you’re welcome. I’ve had a lot of help here, parts, advice, insights, opinions and all given with a real sense of a community, even if we don’t always agree with each other, which is often part of the fun, as long as it’s healthy disagreement and not nasty, which it rarely is here. There is no better resource on the internet for all things bass. Ask for help, you will get it, ask for advice, you will get it. No questions are stupid, all answers are welcomed. No opinions are ignored, all views are observed. Thanks to everyone who run the site, long may it continue.
  2. I absolutely believe in supporting home grown businesses, but just as point of caution, I had a bad experience with one of the makers mentioned in this thread. I won’t say who, but the pickups were relatively expensive and the quality of the work did not reflect in that price. To be fair I did keep them, and the bass sounds fantastic, despite the issues I had. Just a word of caution, when looking for pickups, do your research and read the reviews etc.
  3. My Sunns all weight a ton. Love them dearly though.
  4. I don't like stickers personally, I'd rather see the damage. I remember a lot of teenagers in the 90s used to cover their Ibanez SRs in them. Not my bag.
  5. I think so Matt. I would be looking at between 300 and 400 like we said before. To put it into perspective, my IGB68 above was £200.
  6. Nice indeed, good find.
  7. Superb bass honestly. Mrs Rayman bought me this one. I’d love to find a 4 stringer version. The ramp…. I made myself.
  8. 18mm at the bridge. I wouldn’t want to pay more than 400 for an IGB68, not sure about this model, but tbh I wouldn’t want to pay much more for this one either.
  9. Yeah, it isn’t worth much more than that.
  10. Exactly… 3/400 tops. Probably nearer 3 tbh.
  11. Best active jazz sound I ever had was from a Hohner B Bass. Big fan of Hohner stuff, very well made indeed. David (Eubassix) had a jj for sale..... I was very tempted, just can't justify it at the moment.
  12. It would be a great option, if the decals were offered a separate stickers. The bass itself looks pretty funky, in a metal way.
  13. My opinion, is start with a 4 string, 34 scale and persevere. Always the best way forward when starting out, and you can always look at options down the line when you're more comfortable. It can be a bit uncomfortable to begin with, but honestly I would start with a standard size and scale bass.
  14. Angle + lighting + photograph can make stuff like this hard for us all to get an accurate opinion, but I would assume the bridge too.... but dunno without seeing it in person.
  15. Yeah I saw that..... Bit steep I think? but it's a nice thing. I don't know a lot about that model though. I won't bid against you 😉, I can't afford anything expensive this month, and I'm already eyeing something else I can't afford.
  16. It’s certainly a bit of a minefield!
  17. Yep, my only 5er is a Korean IGB 68/5. Absolutely fantastic bass. I also have a few other 90s Korean Arias. Absolutely wonderful basses for not much money.
  18. It IS a Sleep Token sig model. A bit controversial, because it will probably only appeal to Sleep Token fans, and absolutely nobody else. Mind, you could say the same about many sig models, but this one just seems to have a limited appeal. I should add, I'm old. I didn't know who the heck Sleep Token were until recently.
  19. I have the exact same set every time. Nickel plated steel, Hex core, 40-100.
  20. They don’t unfortunately
  21. A heads up, for easily the best strings I've used in decades. Anyone looking to try something new, check them out. My Warwicks, my Thunderbird (main gigging bass) and at least half a dozen of my other basses are fitted with them. Sustain for days, piano like tone and good longevity, even with a sweaty bugger like me, and very reasonably priced. Order well in advance, because they're a small maker in Derbyshire, and it takes a couple of weeks to get them made and shipped. I am in no way affiliated, never met them (although I drive right past them often) and there's nothing in it for me...... just saying. absolutely awesome strings.
  22. And also there’s this too. I have left “cheap” pickups in a bass more than once, and upgraded the pots etc instead. The results were fantastic. They really are just wires and magnets. It’s just the quality of the construction that can make a difference.
  23. Well Fralins are absolutely awesome to begin with, definitely my favourite Jazz pups. Bare Knuckle are great pickup builders and I believe Creamery are really good too. I’ve tried a couple of the smaller home grown makers, but have been disappointed to be honest. If it was me, I would go Fralin, for a jazz bass.
  24. IGB Standard I think
  25. I've loved Mick Karn and Wal basses since the 80s when I first heard Japan. For me, way more influential and dare I say more interesting than Jaco was.
