Yeah, he's not playing anything at 3:30... I presumed you were after the sound of a delay when pushed into feedback/self oscillation, though, as that's something the Space Echo does quite well?
-
EHX Memory Boy will self oscillate, has a tap tempo and you can set an expression pedal to control the feedback and bring in the oscillation.
Although before Led Zep, John Paul Jones was producer and bass player on songs like this:
Always loved the playing on this song but had no idea it was JPJ. Stunning track.
hmm, that is worrying...anyone else had this issue? The landmark is the nicest sounding head I've used, and I would like to keep using it. I do have a VT bass pedal and a BDDI aswell if I do end up needing to change, but I would rather not.
It really depends how loud your band is. My band at the time had both guitars running at half volume on their heads into 4x12s, which was pretty damn loud in itself, and a drummer who didn't know the meaning of the word dynamics.

I used a landmark 300 with Schoeder 1212L and found it to be a bit quiet in a rock band with 2 guitarists using 100 watt valve amps, so I upgraded my cab to a 4ohm Schroeder 410L. It was still too quiet and clipped a lot. I ended up upgrading to a Markbass F1 with a VT bass pedal in front of it in the end, which gave me the same sort of tones with enough power to cut through happily.

That's a very cool guitar, I must say. Even in the state it was in before it was pretty cool!

I've decided after much youtubing to give the Nord Electro another shot - I want to try one with the waterfall keybed as it was the action that put me off the Electro 3 HP I tried. It's the size/portability that is selling it for me compared to say the Korg SV1 or Roland RD300. For synth stuff I figure I can pick up a Dave Smith Mopho or Roland Gaia at a later date and use it on the side.

I'll be selling an M-Audio Sono 61 soon if you're interested.

My instruments tend to be slung against a wall before I collapse in a heap on the sofa, and probably left in their cases until the next rehearsal.

Playing guitar helps make you a better all round musician, IMO. It's a different approach to bass playing.

What didn't you like about the Juno may I ask? I'm pretty new to synths/keys in general so it's hard to know what to look for besides the immediate sound/playing experience.

I tried a few things out in PMT today. First things first I made a bee line for a Nord Electro 3 HP (hammer action key version). I was actually fairly underwhelmed with this one, the keyboard felt... odd. It felt somewhere in between a piano and keyboard action and for whatever reason I didn't like it. The electric piano sounds were ok, nothing mind blowing. The organ was nice but I doubt I'd use it much. I was a little underwhelmed by the features for the price, especially compared to some others I tried. Next I tried a Roland RD300 stage piano. This felt wonderful to play, very responsive, lovely keyboard and the action felt just right. It does piano and electric piano, that's your lot, but the sounds that were there were very good. I could have sat and played this for hours. Bit big and bulky, though. Next I had a play with a Roland Gaia virtual analogue synth. This lacked any e-piano sounds but as a synth was very cool - very user friendly interface, and within minutes I was creating some great sounds. However, it did feel a bit cheap and the keyboard was pants. There were an assortment of Yamaha and Korg pianos/keyboards dotted around but the interfaces put me right off. Clunky and menu driven for the most part. Last up I had a good long play with a Roland Juno GI. I was impressed with this - lots of really nice piano and e-piano sounds with a very user friendly interface (seems to be a Roland thing), some great synths and it seemed to be the most versatile of the bunch. The keyboard, despite being a synth keyboard with a springy, light action, was actually very rewarding to play with the e-pianos. It flattered my awful playing, maybe that's why I liked it! So currently I'm split between the lovely playing experience of the RD300 or the versatility, portability and scope for experimentation the Juno offers. I'm surprised how much I enjoyed playing the Juno. There's a good £700 difference between the two also (in favour of the Juno)...

Perhaps authentic was a poor choice of words... I like the Rhodes sound Radiohead get, I think they use a Mark 2, but it doesnt have to be exactly like that. I just want to avoid the overly nice, slightly clinical electric piano tone that up until fairly recently I think most digital pianos seemed to have, you know, "Mr Plough, that's my name..." At the moment I play on an M-Audio Sono 61 into my AC30. It sounds ok, but it's still not quite there, and the keyboard action is very... keyboardy. The whole synth and splitting thing is really an afterthought for me, the more I think about it the more important it is to have a great e-piano sound and great action (for my own personal enjoyment rather than any required musical function in my band). The rest is secondary.
-
I'd rather have an intergrated hardware solution, otherwise it's just too much stuff to carry to rehearsals really (I'll be using the synth along with my guitar, effects and AC30). Lots of suggestions for me to check out here anyways, a trip to PMT may be in order.
-
The main thing I worry about is the rhodes/electric piano sounding authentic (and not having that horrible digital electric piano tone when played softly, you know the one, the sort you hear on the Simpsons )
-
Thanks for the suggestions - I intend to try as many as I can before purchasing anything, definately! Just need an idea what's worth checking out really

Potentially up to a grand, ideally far less though I know a bit about synthesis, I've spent a fair bit of time mucking about with emulated analogue synths but the only synth I've owned was a microkorg (which was quickly sold - I found the interface clunky and the sounds were very digital, and lacked "oomph" for want of a better word). I'd really like a convincing Rhodes sound (I'm sorely tempted by the Nord Electro series for the hammond and Rhodes alone but they lack the synth and ability to split organ and piano together) Also, small form factor/light weight/portability is a big plus for this lazy person.
-
Does such a thing exist? With the ability to split the keyboard between the two? Basically, I love the Fender Rhodes sound for melody lines, and I love the sound of sawtooth analogue synth pads for backing, so I'd really like a unit that can do both at once (split synth on the left, rhodes on the right). Anyone know of anything that can do this?

The Squire vintage modified/classic vibe (?) deluxe teles with P90s are great bang for buck. Might be slightly upwards of your budget new though.

Ignore the fact it says Gibson on the headstock and compare it to any number of other decent guitars at that pricepoint, and you'll have your answer

I often find visual stimili distracting when I'm enjoying a piece of music, in fact if I'm really enjoying listening to something I often shut my eyes! As long as the band look like they're enjoying themselves and the music is good, I dont see the point in anything more. The idea of a band having a "look" just feels gimmicky to me. I've never really given much of a sh*t about being successful or popular as a musician either. If people like our music, great, if they don't, that's fine too. I'm not making it for them

I have to say, despite being off Rotos for a few years because they're a bit on the rough side, the last few sets I've tried have sounded bloody brilliant. Prefer them to DRs now, tone wise.

Can't be arsed to find it on youtube, but for me, currently at least, it's George Harrison's solo from Something.
