1. They just work. And they feel, look and sound great doing it.
2. Ooo aren't they nice! I might put myself down a nice black one And please explain the machine heads in the last image! What is going on there!

5. The natural harmonic on the 5th fret of the A string, what a beaut!
6. I think this guy really knows his stuff, just wish there were more people like him in the world. .... .... You know what I can't even say that sarcastically enough.

8. Oh I love these basses so much its un-natural! I quite fancy the SB models, not a big fan of the new CAR, prefer the older productions red (naturally!) Great instruments, I hope Ill be able to bag myself a new production sunburst when I can afford one... A big when....
9. Thomann can't go un-noticed here, some decent deals! http://www.thomann.de/gb/ EDIT Just noticed it had been mentioned, still, good resource!
10.
Richard Hammond off "Top Gear"...but then you knew that didn't you?
I was thinking Hammond too, I was on a TV show with him when I was about 12 and he had his bass in the 'Green room' - but that was before I started, so I wasn't really interested... -_-
11. Can I ask, how much was this advertised for? That was exactly what I'm GASing for really xD Just so I have a ballpark of future reference.
12. I have the CD-BT1, it was a gift from a friend of mine and I didn't really see much use of it. Until recently, I had a play with the features and they just went on forever.. and ever.. and now I never play at home without it! I burned a disk of the tracks I want to be practicing, it took a matter of minutes - no skin off my back. I just have a CD marked 'Bass Trainer' and I change the line-up when ever I need to, the CD thing really isn't restrictive. Mine too has met the floor many times, and although the BT1 is much flimsier than the BT2 it's still not got a mark on it. I love mine to bits
13. I would much like one of these shirts. Language warning http://www.spreadshirt.co.uk/aqua-wasps-ar...s-C4408A5830516
14. I know this might not be the constructive criticism your after.. but I can download them for my phone? I like them. All I would say is that the harmonising vocals in the oasis cover might be a little loud, but the percussion levels sound fine. It does seem a little thin though, I'm not sure what you could do there? Possibly if you ever have some time, you could re-mix them and send them to me, I'm quite a fan! Oh and the links don't match the description in the OP, you got them switched around!
15. Why wasn't this bass sold ages ago? It's fantastic! I was thinking of upgrading to a MM USA Sterling, but after trying one out, it just didn't have the same impact on me. This is a very, very good bass! (IMHO!) EDIT: It was sold ages ago! Nevermind - welcome to the club @ who ever bought this magnificent bass!
16. I'm interested in what you've just said there peteb 'What is the cheapest bass that you have used on a pro gig in the last few years?' This is similar to what I'm trying to ask - would you trust, rely on and with all your heart love a bass you've paid no money for? Or that you've paid 1000s for? Can you name your price on a bass? This question is so hard to explain its painful - every 'This question is too vague' is a boost for me to try and explain, which if I could you'd say 'Ohhh.. I get it, I'd say £x.' but I'm just not getting there. I'll ponder some wordings and metaphors and possibly post something somewhat similar in the forth-coming months, If every I do get my head fully around the question!
17.
how long is a piece of string?
I think everyone else kinda got it, read everyone's post and you'll see what I was trying to say! Although, I must say, these guys have done very well answering this question! These answers are what I was expecting to see when I made the thread - but I thought there'd be a lot more 'That doesn't make sense?' posts, which I'm glad there wasn't! But thanks for letting me find out what everyone on here thinks a 'proper' bass should cost. Yes it should be one that feels right for you, but a £10 car-boot jobby would rarely be a gigging bassists bass-of-choice, where as Fenders and MusicMans have appeared at the last 10 bands I've seen live, gotta mean something right? I'm sure there's a lot to say on the matter, bassists seem to have an awesome range of opinions on most things, I love that!
18.
I'd suggest the poll question is too vague to be particularly useful because it doesn't take proficiency or likely use into account. It's a bit like asking how much a car costs.
Yea, understandable. Yet car prices can range from 5k new to over £1million new, this isn't really that sort of scale. I'm just thinking, so many basses are priced so similarly is there a 'price' that a bass should cost? It's hard to get your head around, but you will if you think about it. It's rather hard to explain.
19. I've just looked in the 'For Sale' section of the forum, and it seems that there are several £1000+ basses for sale, so many infact that they are all I saw for the first 6 topics! This made me ponder, is ~£1000 about the cost of a bass used at professional level? i.e. for gigging or for ownership by professionals? I recently tried out Fender American Deluxe Jazz and Precision basses, and I have also played an american MM Sterling and a Stingray and german Warwick in the past all of these cost a similar price and they seemed like very nice basses, and I understand their popularity from their play-ability. Though, I played my Jaguar after playing these £1000+ forerunners of the bass world and could hardly notice the difference other than some tonal differences and comfort. Are these expensive basses really worth the money? Or do we buy them for the fact they did cost that much money, and that makes us psychologically assume that they are better? Anyone have an answer? I'm seriously intrigued about this! --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Ok, you haven't got what I'm trying to say. Does one have to spend x amount of money on a bass, for it to be considered a.. ermm.. bass? Confused yet? Well. The MM Stingray is between 1-2k new, as is the American deluxe fenders, and many warwicks, and Rickenbakers. Why this price? I'd say, a bass costs 1-2k becuase of that reason above. You may think a bass costs ~£500 as that is how much you need to spend to get a very decent, proper bass. Maybe more, maybe less. If you don't understand the question, tell me, it's not vague - but it can be read that way. It's hard to explain, I might just give up on this and think about it myself in my own encrypted, messed up mind!
20. That's quite the price drop there! Once again, I wish I had the money for this. A back up Jag for my Jag would be paradise! Hate not having a job xD Jags are absolutely amazing basses IMHO - love them to bits!
21. Glad to know that the great name of bassists will live on in their generation... -_-
22. That was a nice bass right there, very quick sale! Well done!
23. I really like that Jag, though, I'm a jazz style guy.. so those pick-ups would be out! Very nice collection there!
24. My friend at school had this dilemma, he also had the issue that one of the basses he switched to was short-scale and would break the flow of his playing, what with different fingering and what not, although he enjoyed the fact he could get the tones right on his basses at practice and if he was careful then they'd sound tidy in the mix when he played live without a second set-up pre-gig. And obviously showing off his range of basses.. He eventually had the funds available for a 5er and uses that much more now - but he wasn't too happy with having to re-learn his set for the sake of his new bass. Didn't get much use until they changed their set-list. Just asked him what he thinks of the change now, he reckons it was worth it, but still takes 3 basses to gigs - just in case (OTT if you ask me). (Note: He was in a metal band, so had a Drop-C, Standard and Half-Step)
