3. Have you checked the position of the pre/post switch which is next to the balanced line out socket? Regards,
4.
Hi guys I really want to get low action on my Ric... but is it actually physically possible? The bridge pickup cover as we all know is massive... and I dont think I can really go as low as id like to because of it. Anyone here play a Ric with low action? Id like the strings to be as close as I can get them to the fretboard without "clacking". Cheers peoples
Just try it, I reckon you'll get fret buzz long before you hit the bridge pick-up surround - I assume you mean the surround and not the cover which comes off unless it's a horseshoe p/u.
5. Hi All, Just done a great part-ex deal and traded a Rickenbacker 330/12FG for this beauty: A Rickenbacker 4001V63. I feel a rush to play in a 60's band Regards,
6. Played my first gig with a particular band a few months ago, the guitarist says to me in mid set " I don't want to stress you but Graham Oliver's come to see us". I said "Who?" For those as ignorant as me he was the guitarist with Saxon. Regards,
7.
hiho, having used a mb450 head and peavey cabs for a few years now I have had no bother whatsoever apart from changing the pre-amp valve in the classic channel. Very loud and it has it,s own sound.
Out of interest, did you change the valve for anything special? Regards,
8. Well done and good luck. I got back gigging after 26 years and wished I'd done it 25 years ago! Would you wind the clock back 39 years and do it sooner? Regards,
9. Hi, I don't know the prices of the Benz gear but a dealer is ALWAYS going to give you less than you would get for a private sale and the amount they offer is usually about half what you think your gear is worth. Sell your stuff privately and then go back to the dealer with cash and haggle big style. Regards,
10. Hi All, Some of you may remember my post about my new Marshall MB4210 combo which overheated at a gig and started cutting out. Believe me, I was not impressed. Anyway, the amp and extension cab (MBC115) were returned to MB Music from where I bought them (online) and they were then shipped back to Marshall who said that they would treat this as urgent. The outcome was that amp needed a new mainboard which would take 2 weeks to arrive, they couldn't replace the amp at that time as they didn't have any in stock. Fair enough. After 3 weeks there was no sign of the mainboard so after contacting Marshall, I was told that I was getting a replacement amp which could be another 2-3 weeks. Not impressed at all. I kicked off a bit with Marshall and also referred this back to Martin at MB Music. The Result: At no extra charge, Marshall upgraded me to the MB4410 combo (4 x 10" as opposed to 2 x 10") and chucked in a free cover as I'd already bought one for the MB4210. Now I was impressed. I'd like to publicly thank Marshall and also MB Music in Bognor whose aftersales service has been exemplary. I'll tell you one thing though, the new MB4410 weighs a ******* ton! Regards,
11. I've just got one of these although I'm still "testing" it. If you're going to use the VT Bass for gigging then the Deluxe is a 6-trick pedal as opposed to the standard 1-trick pedal. If you like the sound of the standard VT Bass then you'll like the Deluxe version 6 times more! The dual inputs are incredibly useful if you use more than one bass. I can't see that I'd ever use the XLR as I'd always use the one on my amp but it would come in handy if you have an amp failure as I did recently. The only drawback is the price but it is definitely worth shopping around. Regards,
+1. Also, for an octave up as well as an octave down, check out the EHX Micro Pog. If you want full control over what harmonies you want, other than the Digitech Whammy, there is the Eventide Pitch Factor: Eventide Pitch Factor Especially with an expression pedal connected you can have control over a whole manner of different crazy intervals, even those popularised by the Bass Whammy, which had all but died out, so to speak.
The Micro Pog looks pretty useful especially with the separate dry and effect outputs. Obviously the Eventide is in a class and price bracket of it's own. Thanks for the suggestions though. Regards,
A harmony pedal (the digitech whammy is the most ubiquitos option) and a decent distortion will do the same thing, but it won't sound exactly the same. As far as I'm aware the unibass is the only one that does it in one box. My way of filling out the sound is to play one octave higher and use my oc-2 to harmonise one octave down with distortion.. Octave down tends to sound a lot more natural than fifth/octave up.
Good suggestion, thanks for that.

Hi All, I've read wonderful things about the now discontinued Akai UB1 and I wonder if there are any alternatives? Regards,
16. I've just bought a Boss LS-2 and it does everything it says on the box and a whole lot more. I also bought a power supply for it. Interestingly, it has an extra power out socket so provided you get a beefy enough power supply, you can daisy-chain other pedals from it. Regards, Graham.
17. I have one of these straps but the leather end pieces are too thin to my mind, even when fitted with straplocks they don't feel secure. I would never contemplate using one of these live. Regards, Graham.
18.
It makes sense that it would suck cool air in from outside and blow it directly onto the components on the circuit board, rather than draw it in from underneath. Warm air from electrical components won't rise very much relative to a cooling fan blowing it around, and will be insignificant by comparison.
Hi, I hear what you're saying and you're probably right but the layout does seem all wrong. The fan blows onto a large aluminium heatsink which is situated above the vents in the amp chassis so the air is exiting the amp from underneath the fan, seeing as hot air rises it seems to me that the fan will then recycle the hot air that has just exited the amp. If the amp had vents on the top then the fan sucking in would make more sense. If the fan was pulling air out of the amp it would still pull cool air in but from under the amp and the hot air would exit via the fan. You would assume that Marshall have tested all this but the fact that there are many reports of this overheating problem does give cause for concern. Regards, Graham.
19.
Just checked, mine sucks air in rather than expels it. I've never experienced this over heating issue, but Marshall have always been very helpful when contacting them about my dodgy Valvestate guitar combo, give them a ring.
Thanks for checking. I'll be in touch with Marshall tomorrow and see what they say. Regards, Graham.
20. Hi All, I've just done my first gig with my Marshall MB4210 combo and MBC115 speaker cab. Unfortunately I was a victim of the amp overheating scenario which I now find has been a regular topic on here (teach me to research properly before buying). Anyway I've checked everything and can't find any loose components/poorly soldered joints but what I have noticed is this - I think the fan on the amp is blowing the wrong way! I could be wrong about this but the fan on my amp is sucking air into the amp but I think that it should be drawing air out. The reason that I think this is because the amp chassis has grilles on the bottom so I would expect the fan to PULL air in through the bottom grilles and be exhausted through the fan. If it was supposed to work the other way around I would expect the grilles to be on the top of the amp (hot air rises, cold air falls etc). I will get in touch with Marshall tomorrow but if possible, could any MB4210 owners check your amps and let me know which way the fan blows. Regards, Graham.
21. I bought an SB1000 as soon as they came out, serial number was #000283 I think. Liked the quality and everything about it except the sound so I part-exed for an Aria 6-string (LS-450 which I still have) and a Fender Champ. I now regret letting the SB1000 go as I suspect that my frustration with the sound was due to the valve amps that I was using at that time and not the bass. You live and learn. Regards, Graham.
22. I certainly wouldn't de-fret the Rickenbacker, you would regret it eventually. Regards, Graham.
23. Hi All, I'm Graham and I live out in the sticks in North Yorkshire not far from York. I've been playing bass for over 30 years although I haven't seen much action in recent years due to other commitments but that's about to change. I also play some guitar and keyboards and I'm also a bit of a guitar and bass collector. Gear includes: Rickenbacker 4001 - got this for my 18th birthday, my second bass ever. The first was a Grant Violin Bass which was a Hofner copy, long since part-ex'd. Fender Jazz Bass - this is one of the Fender Japan jobs and it's superb. Hofner Violin Bass - finally bought one of these about 3 years ago after a 25 year wait! Fender Telecaster Bass - the big humbucker job. I was loaned this when my Rick was in for some fret work, it was that horrible puss-yellow colour and it had been banged about a bit. I grew to like it and bought it. I've since added a pair of Jazz Bass pick ups and rewired it to stereo. I wish now that I hadn't as these days they're worth a bob or two. Amp is a Marshall MB4210 combo which I've only just got so not fully up to speed with it. Over the years I've used Fender, Hiwatt and Marshall amps with Acoustic cabs but this new combo is far "tighter" and a lot more powerful and doesn't fill a bedroom, how things have changed. I also use a Bass Pod XT Live which my better half bought me for me. I replaces a Behringer Bas V-Amp Pro which isn't a patch on the Bass Pod. I've also got a set of the new Moog Taurus 3 Bass Pedals so I'm practising not falling over. Major influences are The Beatles, Rush, Yes and a lot more besides. I'm a bit of a Rickenbacker nut so I do tend to like bands that have a Rick-playing bassist although this doesn't include Motorhead! No offence to any Lemmy fans. Regards, Graham.
