1. Ditto on the Status neck harmonics. I got commended for how clear they came out on a recent music exam played on my streamline...pity about the rest of the exam.
2. Funnily enoutgh I have this problem in reverse. My little finger is great..but I have an index finger I half lost in an accident. And I naturally used to avoid using it because I have to fret using the side of the top of it and it made me stretch my writst at an awkward angle. What made me develop was scales...to play scales quickly and smoothly it really helps to use all four fingers...and now I do naturally.
3. Got one, love it. And it was loud enough to get a complaint from the neighbours. BUMP
4. Good for you Chris, I'll pop over when you are up and running.
5. A minor piece of good news, I really wanted to pop in, but was ill at the weekend, hopefully can get over before the 10th
6. LOL...I have only half a left index finger and I'm left handed...I point by giving the finger all the time...strangely enougth I do it with my right hand as well.
7. I have an age old habit of sticking my tongue out slightly when I am concentrating....and I have the most uncombfertable looking angle on my fretting hand, due to having to stretch to get my 'missing a half' index finger into postion.
8. I was going to say they are pretty fast when I have ordered strings, straps etc. But their basses take months.
9. Have you got pictures, and does it have eiither a bendwell, or 16.5mm string spacing.
10.
The only single cut I like is the Status Streamline.
Ditto x2 Although the streamline is so light to start with, it doesn't suffer from having an sc design. The neck on both of my fee incredibly stable but the graphite helps there a lot.
11. It was great. What a great bunch of BCers Loved the fact we had a whole load of interesting basses to try, and some of them didn't even belong to Dave! I really wanted to try a fan fret bass. Next time I might even open my eyes. The laid back, non-competitive atmosphere, and sensible volume choices were cool too. Must say, Gary made everything sound great...it really is all in the fingers.
12. hey. Just realised I can make this date. Hope there is still space. I've got a RH450 and a 2x10 and 1x12 and a status streamline and almost 0 talent. Happy to dontate £5.
13. For Huge venues you could run two RH450s linked (one can be a slave ot the other), that's what they were designed for (and that's what I'm pretty sure Mark was doing on the last tour). At least it wasn't an RH500 or 550 to make me feel inadequate. The sound my RH450 makes is huge as it is. My point should have read though...isn't the 450 enough for most venues that mortals, amatuers etc play. (Please don't ban me).
14. I may have misheard. And I was sitting behind the guy from TC (Ulf?) but I'm sure Mark King said he was using a new RH750. It was definately a Reble Head and he had two 4x cabs. The question begs for me though...isn't the RH450 load enough for most situations?
15. Music Man stand...brilliant. Headphones to try basses out. Mellow double bass out loud. Other demos....horrible. TM Stevens was great. Enjoyed hearing MK and Mendoza.
16. I love slap, if it's well played and fits the song. BUT I thought today was damaged by the amount of w***ery going on (slap or otherwise). I don't think I heard one person actually trying to groove or play the kind of thing you would need in a band. Well, except TM Stevens, who was brilliant at emphasising the need for restraint (and this is a man who can parradiidle with the best). I thought the Musicman stand was brilliant. You had six headphone amps with people slapping away, but you could hear tasteful double bass Jazz from their in house pro player.
17. I have a diddy hand... 6 inches.... and yes that is small too:) I also lost about a third of my index finger in a childhood accident...so the spread on fingers is paltry 10cm (9 due to the way I fret with the side of that index finger). Not surprisingly I play a status streamline, with 32" scale and narrow 16.5mm string spacing. Last year I tried to use a precision at a concert for schools.....I could barely play it.
18. Bass picked up and sold. Thanks for the interest. (Goes away quietly to shed a tear that it ill never be hung in the rock hall of fame like I always dreamed it would).
19.
Just thought I'd pass this on as it might be helpful to the buyer. I've just bought a "The Jack" back to life that was in a worse condition than this. Ended up being a very nice bass - the buyer of this one has got a bargain (I paid more for mine in worse condition), if I'd been close to the seller I'd have been round like a shot! Mine is the single coil active version. Both of the volume pots needed replacing. I replaced like with like - they were 500k linear taper. After having done this and being able to play with it for I while I've come to the conclusion that I don't think linear works very well for volume for me, and will be swapping them out for audio taper. The one being sold here looks like a humbucker version, and I don't know if the stock pots on it are the same as on mine (or if the setup is the same, mine has two volume and one stacked tone), but if the buyer is going to replace the volume pot(s) anyway as part of its refurb then it's something to consider. (Moderators, if this should be somewhere else rather than in the advert please move. I've put it here so that the buyer will hopefully see it).
Good points. I will mention this post to the buyer when he picks it up. It is the humbucker version. And it doesn't have the stacked pots. Yours (I believe) is a later model. Glad to hear it can be restored, wish I had the time or skill to do it myself.
20.
Drew, I know it says you don't want to post it, but would it be possible for you to pack it up and if I arrange a courier? Been looking for a status-a-like for ages and am quite excited at the prospect of one that needs some TLC. Matt
Hey Matt, if no one grabs it by Sunday, I will get back to you on that. Hope that is OK.
21. I've owned this bass for 20+ years. Bought it new in the bass centre. I sold my other Hohner Jack on here last year. But I now have a status streamline and another on order, so this is taking up space. Price is £40. If I have to drop it off (Essex) or £30 if you come and pick it up (Chelmsford). I don't want to post this, as I think it needs to be looked at before purchase. Bass is a stained brown colour, headless design (holds tuning well). This is the passive version and has a great deep dubby tone. Comes with battered guitar case. It also has a pickup holder attached. This was a tickon one, so should come off. But...it has seen a lot of use, and I should have cleaned it more often. The bass needs a very good clean, and it has general light scratches. The pickup guards screws have corroded and will need work to get off. The pickup selector still works, but the tone doesn't and the volume works with crackle. It has one noticeable knock on the back of the neck, but it's has that for 18+ years and I still passed three grade exams with it. Any questions, feel free to ask. Drew
22. The Bass Merchant is brilliant. I've bought stuff there and they are always happy to let you try stuff out, and they don't stand over you either. It has a really interesting selection of basses. Hugely recomended.
23. I have done Rockschool Grades 1,2,3,4 and 5. I know you don't have to do them like this, but I don't have a tutor and it has allowed me to make each step as I need. Although I completly agree that joining a real band, getting out there is really the best way, my current high commitments make that difficult and noodling just never motivated me. With all the Rockschool exams I've taken I have received a mark sheet pointing out good elements and areas of improvement. They have really worked to motivate me and improve my playing.
24. Here are the images of the Brown passive one. Joe Hubbard advised me to spend my money on this one when he taught me at 'The Bass Centre' and it did me well for the past twenty+ years.
