1. Also, it's what type that are sold. I'll take a guess here that for beginner/low cost instruments the number will be far higher for guitars over basses. For professional or boutique instruments the amounts will be a lot closer. Why? Because bass is not the instrument people start on. Would be great if I had any figures.
2. I have Madarozzo bags for both my streamlines.. the first one lasted less than a year before just splitting all along the bottom. I did actually like the design. It kept the volume (cm3) of bass and bag really low but the stitching wasn't great. Status listened and now have 'Status' branded gig bags...keep meaning to order two as they looked great when I saw them at the Bass Show. Drew
3. And I live ten minutes walk away from the Bassment and had no idea this was even taking place until now, when it comes to an end.
4. It turned up today...I actually enjoyed the fact there were some mega basses reviewed. Hopefully the new editor will spruce it up in future.
5. http://www.mi-pro.co.uk/news/read/magazine-titles-saved-in-last-minute-bid/016455 My copy hasn't turned up yet.
6. I have been to the Bass Gallery and it was great. How they get all that gear in such a place defies belief. I also rated the Bass merchant, but word is, on another thread here, that it is just a corner of another store now.
7.
I wonder if he knows how much of his 'fanbase' is composed of these people. Just a thought.
That was my thought when I read it...I mean where else and who else will you find discussions about his album.
8. Technically I do not miss my first bass....a terrible cheapo Precision clone...it was awful and nearly put me off bass playing. But about a year later I bought a Hohner 'Jack' bass, and that I played into the ground over the next two decades. I sold it as we lived in a tiny flat, and I had just got a shiny new status. I miss it: a)because of the momories and b)becuse I've started gigging again and it would be a great bass for pub gigs where I worry about my gear. On the other hand, it went to a basschatter and he repaired it and got it back to it's former glory.
9. Agreed that Haslip is a tremendous talent, and plays complex stuff. Didn't Hendrix play an upside down guitar? No complex stuff there of course.
10.
They told me that you can use the old books until summer 2013 session
That's exactly what I meant to type.
11. Ahh, no, I till no nothing...they keep changing this, but the old books are now valid until the end of period B 2013...which makes them valid for another year.
12. Ahh, something I know about. 1) Test can be booked my post or online at the rockschool site. 2)The old sylabus is still valid for about 9 months (the 'old' books can be used up to the first exam period in 2013). 3)Henry Thomas, Deidre Cartwright and I think the Keyboard player from series 2 of the TV show, all performed on the last set of books (and wrote some of the pieces). So far this time, I've only seen evidence of Henry Thomas being involved. 4) Random fact as of today: Stuart Clayton (bassline publishing) composed and played bass on at least one track on the new sylabus; King Thumb (or Thumb King) is Mark King inspired 16th note mute fest for Grade 7. 5)You can just use the books and teach yourself/someone else...I've self taught my way through grades 1-7 over the past three years.
13.
After 40, any rock/pop music Seriously, though, I think there is always the potential for old rockers to look a bit 'sad' if they overdo the teenage angst angle of rock and roll. I guess its about learning to grow old gracefully.
I was thinking about it today....and I'm almost certain my middle aged angst completly trumps teenage angst. I wanted to go out and write an EMO album entitle...Teenagers, you don't have a clue what life has in store for you.
14.
I saw PG on the "Human Rights Now" tour in 1988 with his usual touring band (including TL) + Youssou N'Dour (who did a set in his own right that night) at Wembley Stadium. His performance of "Shock the Monkey" was particularly memorable . Good call on ABWH - I saw them at Wembley Arena the following year. Great band!
I saw the same show at wembley...and I saw him at Glastonbury too. Great performer, even when he hasn't got his full tour setup. I absolutly loved hearing the bass tracks isolated.
15.
There's some I've owned that I wouldn't own again (eg. a Precision). And I did want to own a Jazz once, thirty years ago, but I don't now. If somebody gave me a 60s Hohner violin bass for nowt, I'd have it so I could sell it. I wouldn't want anything painted or lacquered - it's got to be natural wood. I'm not keen on singlecuts - I want to like them but I just can't. The Status Streamline - that's horrible. If you want to make a cricket bat, do a proper job of it.
The status streamline is my dream bass...it works perfectly for me, sounds great and doesn't weight the stupid shoulder damaging weights of other basses. Obviously looking at my bass collection I would say that.
16. I have both MM and TOP albums. MM is great, and I love alot of his stuff....BUT the orginal sounded so much better to my ears. The groove Rocco gets it amasing. Now, technically the MM song was amasing, my jaw was on the floor at the double thumbing and it made me feel down that I am still a million miles from where I want to be at slapping as a technique...but it didn't groove to my ears.
17.
I've never wanted a P, but I did have a Tanglewood fretless P in the early '90s that was a pretty nice bass, the neck was nothing like a Precision it was really slim and nice. These days I do quite like the idea of a Sandberg PM5, but that's the only P I want. And I'd ask for a J neck on it. I've never wanted a Status because they are for 45 year old men with beer guts who saw Mark King play one. Consequently they must be the most-LED-fingerboarded basses ever made. Sorry to whoever here has a fingerboard festooned with LEDs but seriously what the f*** were you thinking? Do you just LOVE christmas? But I would consider a Status aftermarket neck on a nicer bass. If they weren't so expensive.
I'm 41. Not all status basses have LED's...neither of mine have. Mark King has never been seen playing the model I use. But I do have a beer gut.
18. Just to add some balance....P basses...cant stand the look/feel of them. And to be very contary..love headless basses.
19. I've sent the email...just let me know how it went. Cheers Drew
20. I had a really good time...although I spend all my time in the masterclasses and shows. I think Amps manufacturers want to prove volume..whih is a problem you can't solve with headphones. I am not a great player, but some of the guys trying to slap while trying out amps, were terrible. Always good to pay homage to the Status stand, and give Stuart at bassline publishing more of my money.
21. Hey I can't make the gig at Ronnie Scotts tomorrow. (Early show 6 a clock door opens). The ticket cost me loads but happy to pass it on to a basschatter for free. They don't have 'real' tickets so I can just send the booking info. It's a single ticket for the middle priced seats (bench arrangment at side) although I can't guarentee exactly where as they don't let you know until you get there. PM thursday evening only...will be out of communication tomorrow. Cheers Drew
22. Also the status doesn't create a short scale with the bendwell...it creates 32" medium scale. They actually do it for most their headless basses...my streamlines have them. What kind of headless bass is it you are trying to convert?
