  1. Likewise - also originally from Swansea but now living in Leicester. Have done quite a few gigs following straight on from the Six Nations in local bars. Good if England win, but we’ve had the place empty completely before now because they’ve lost. Not exactly a brilliant atmosphere!
  2. I’ve finally found my perfect bass sound over this weekend’s gigs. (There is a caveat here - I’m not in the position to own/transport anything like an Ampeg SVT, so while I adore their sound and character they aren’t a practical consideration for me.) Having recently swapped back to La Bella flats on my 1970 P bass and my 2013 Mustang bass, I also experimented this weekend with two old Markbass Standard 2x10 cabs stacked (the front ported ones). Running thru a Cali76 compact bass compressor into an old Little Mark 2 head. The result felt like someone was punching me in the back all evening onstage. Lots of thump, smoothness and power. I’ll probably change my mind again in due course, but for this moment in time, I have found my bass nirvana.
  3. Couple of nice gigs this weekend. Friday was the Elton John tribute at Northampton Picturedrome - decent sized crowd who were well up for it. Lots of dancing etc. And then Saturday did a wedding at the Donkey music pub in Leicester with a recently-formed blues/soul trio which ended up with guest singers coming to join us etc. Place was rammed. Lots of dancing again! Proper sweaty loud raucous stuff which went down a storm. Most excellent. 👌
  4. Im pretty sure it has already!
  5. Someone after one of these on the Items Wanted forum
  6. Holiday somewhere sunny
  7. I’m loving this thread. It combines two of my passions - bass and history. It’s like a time capsule taking us back to the world of the original Bermuda bassist owner back in the day. What a cool thing eh.
  8. Pretty much all Kasabian lyrics leave me wondering what they’re talking about. Just words that sound good together I assumed.
  9. I’ve always sung and played - makes you a valuable member of a band if you fulfil more than one role for the same price too! My only advice would be to learn the parts separately first before trying to combine them. I usually try to get the bass part under my fingers before trying to sing. If push comes to shove I’d rather leave out a complicated BV part for the sake of keeping the bass line solid. Tho ideally given a bit of time and practice you should usually be able to do both (there are undoubted exceptions obviously - things that are just officially Too Hard.)
  10. That’s a lovely burst too. I have an identical 1970, (also B neck, also 8.8lbs etc) but the red from the burst has faded to a more yellowy colour. This one looks still very vibrant and rich coloured. It’s a beauty.
  11. Hmm. Intriguing - I await the next instalment! Wicked bass tho.
  12. Lovely looking bass. I’m confused tho - the bridge doesn’t seem to have any screws attaching it to the body? Is it just glued on?
  13. Bump - still available. Its advertised elsewhere too but potential sale fallen thru so it’s still here….
  14. Just received a free pair of Sennheiser headphones from Frank. What a kind chap! Much appreciated.
  15. I have a pork pie hat courtesy of TK Maxx one lunchtime. Comes in handy on my frequent bad hair days.
  16. I bought this K&M Guardian 5 guitar stand during lockdown, but despite my best efforts I’ve still not got five basses to put in it. It’s a lovely bit of kit - sturdy, well made and quite light too. It’s never left my music room so it’s in really good condition. It holds instruments in quite an upright position too which is handy for basses as it can go quite close to the wall without the headstock touching (tried to show this in pic below). K&M say the material they use is safe for nitro finishes too - I’ve stored my vintage P bass in with no problems. They do a range of these stands - this one is model number 17525 (Guardian 5). Blurb here from the K&M site: https://bit.ly/3nMhAvQ NB it is not suitable for acoustic guitars (as I found out…) - the spacing between sections is not wide enough to take them. Solid bodies and semi acoustics would fit fine tho. Cheapest I can find new online in around £115-£120 including postage (Bax Shop, Thomann et al). I’m after £65 plus postage within the UK, or you’re more than welcome to collect from south Leicestershire. It folds flat so easy to transport / post etc.
  17. Bump for a good bass. Happy to consider sensible offers on this one.
  18. Another one for Comfort Strapps here. I used to use wide Leathergraft Softees too which were great but nowadays Comfort Strapps 100%.
  19. C'Mon and Love Me, and I Want You are both absolutely mint. Though an honourable mention for Who Wants to Be Lonely too - forgotten what an awesome song that is listening back to it now.
  20. See, some of those are absolute mainstays of the function/wedding scene to get people on the dancefloor, so while I'm no fan of them, they very definitely have their place in the set of many gigging bands. Oasis however, no. As a rule there's always a better song available that's not by Oasis.
  21. Personally, anything by Oasis. I have an unnatural dislike of them; having missed them in their heyday, my only connection with Oasis songs is them being lowest common denominator pub rock anthems for drunk people.
  22. Hello, Up for sale is my rather lovely 1999 Yamaha RBX765A five string bass, made in Taiwan. It’s 34” scale, active, two humbuckers, rosewood fingerboard etc and I suspect an alder body whose grain is visibly thru the translucent red finish. I bought this in January and have loved playing it - however my ongoing knackered shoulder seems to have other ideas and I’m going to keep looking for something lighter-weight. Its not heavy by any means - pretty much bang on the 4kg mark on my electronic luggage scales. Same condition as when I bought it, as I’ve taken it to one rehearsal and no gigs yet. Was newly-string with roundwounds just before I bought it so they still have plenty of life in them. Currently set to medium/low action, and only minimal signs of any fretwear despite it being a 24-year-old bass. Comes with a functional and clean but quite tatty padded gigbag, and a Comfort Strapp in similar condition can be thrown in too if needed (alas it was too short for me). Not going to ship overseas, but happy to post at buyer’s cost or meet if practical. Or you’re more than welcome to try it out at my place at proper volume. NOW SOLD ELSEWHERE Any questions, feel free to give us a shout. Cheers
