  1. Car & back for me. It’s not that much of a reduction in weight compared to my Hiscox hard case but does make things that little bit easier.
  2. Unless you’ve a lot of time on stage then the singer knowing what they’re going to say between songs & how long that takes (and between which songs so the rest of the band knows) is part of the rehearsal process. Otherwise you can easily run out of time.
  3. Just interested, my fave guitarist Mick Mars (of Motley Crue) switched allegiance from Gibson Les Pauls to Fender Strats some years back, citing weight/easier to play as reasons. Now I`m obviously aware that this is a bass forum so the real point of this post is last night I picked up my Jazz for the first time in a while and I was amazed at how much easier I found it to play than my Precisions. Additionally I always seem to scoop a lot of the mids out of my Precisions tone, ending up with a sound nearer to the core tone of the Jazz, so I`m just wondering if it seems that the Jazz is calling out to me. Just wondered if anyone else had experienced similar, where although they had a favoured type of bass they found that for whatever reasons another type ended up being more suitable?
  4. See what you mean re the Rio vibes @Eldon Tyrell, that`s a pretty nice touch, discreet enough to not be off-putting for a non-DD/JT fan who just likes the bass itself.
  5. Given how prolific he was with his Aria in the 80s I’m surprised he didn’t have a sig one of those. That Dingwall looks nice tho.
  6. Next bands on the list are Kodama, Burdensome & Pest at The Cellar in Hemel Hempstead this Thu. A mate is in one of them but I don’t know which, I’ll find out on Thu I suppose.
  7. My fave is the Mono M80, though their Vertigo is also very good. As are Protection Racket & Fusion. But my first call is always the M80, not cheap but worth it for an expensive instrument.
  8. Same with the punk & Oi audiences, reputation based upon looks not behaviour, much less bother than regular pub crowds.
  9. £6.50 a pint? ’Kinell!!!!!!
  10. The Jam, with: Eton Rifles Down in The Tube Station Town Called Malice Many others but I think these three are probably more well known
  11. Sounds great Col, if my retirement is half as exciting & rewarding I’ll be well chuffed
  12. I bought one of those green Epi Les Pauls from Coda in ‘97 @mcnach, was a great guitar but pickups fed back rotten at gig volumes, had to swap them out.
  13. Am not playing but went to see The Drifters last night. They started off with an announcement that the venue had received approval for the event to go ahead. Given it started at 7:30, an hour after the announcement of the passing of The Queen I`m not certain if it would have been the right thing to cancel, but do wonder how many will be cancelling/rescheduling. for both this and next weekend.
  14. I’ve bought a good few “firsts” in Coda, US Fender Precision, Gibson Les Paul, Marshall (guitar) valve amp, all at what were good prices. I used to go there quite regularly just for a browse and a chat with the guys there.
  15. Good call, Beyond Good and Evil is great, Rise especially so
  16. Great place, been going there for years
  17. Yeah I’d never be able to listen to a band & state maple or rosewood, can just tell the difference between my own basses. I did take one of each to a rehearsal and the opinion of the band was that the maple sat in with the whole band better but that the rosewood sat lower, enabling the guitar to stand out with better separation between it and the bass.
  18. Having been a maple man for years I`ve recently returned to my rosewood roots. With regards to my own basses there`s added depth & warmth to the sound of the rosewood ones (same basses, same pickups, same strings, same set-ups, 3 maples, 2 rosewoods, sound difference is the same across all 5 of these), so rosewood gets my vote.
  19. The compressors on both my RM500 & ABM600 work the same as your ABM, a volume cut. I find that around 2pm/3pm on the control is as near as the uncompressed volume as I can get, but at that point it’s too compressed for me.
  20. Take a trip up to Andertons, in Guildford they’re not too far away from you, usually have a decent range of gear in there.
  21. I’m with you Paul, I know the sound I want so to me it matters neither where I start or end up as long as I get there.
  22. Those V4s are cracking basses, punch way above their price tag in quality, playability and sound.
  23. That’s the ideal JD bass, well done 👏🏻
  24. Yes from recall in Bass Guitar Mag he was interviewed and said that he had his trusty `62 (subsequently stolen) and a Mex Precision which he put a tort plate on and which he did his gigs with. Good enough for a Pistol = good enough for me!
  25. Not necessarily budget gear, but after years of gigging US Fenders I’m now gigging a Mexican Fender. Ok I’ve made a few changes to it, tuners/bridge/nut/string-retainer, but these are more for tuning stability than as upgrades. I’ve changed the pickup but again this is more to match the sound of my US ones than as an upgrade. In reality I could have left it stock.
