  6. Up for sale, sadly for me because I have a very busy job and can't get much time into playing anymore. This I would rate as one of the of not the best 5 stringers I have owned, and I've owned about all of the top shelve beautique brands at some point. Craftmanship is really OCD/top notch, very unique neckshape very shallow and comfortable. I would say the sound is in between a Fodera and MTD. Huge B string, very even across the board, a real pro studio grade instrument. The bass is in great condition as shown in the pics. Body Alder - Neck 3 piece maple + reinforced bars - Fret board macassar ebony - Top Myrtle - Pickups Seymour Duncans - EQ Duncan 3 band - Scale 35' - String spacing 19mm - Weight 3,9 kg - Original soft case included No trades please I'm trying to slim it down as I dont have the rime anymore
  7. Ooh this is real tasty! What's the weight? Any sound clips you can tease us with?
  8. These where made with annodised pg and also with true nitro finish on the most expensive 95 models. I owned one altho it was a domestic JV '57 seeing the price I wished I still had it;) its correct tho. Glwts!

  13. Ill help you out by saying it looks really really classy! I think one of a kind from John;) and judging your taste in basses Im very confident it sounds awesome too! Regards
  14. Have a bump! Really awesome for sure, I used to have a fabulous Classic 6 string of this period, I second that the top looks more like bubinga.
  15. Wider nut?... In that case I think you should just try to get yourself a light p bass of no particular brand. The most traditional instrument in my book. I'm a p bass guy and I always have done my best to get lighter ones, cos every bass weighs differently and every bass does sound a little different. Look for light alder, basswood, korina, swamp ash or sen ash bodies. Most important above weight is the sound, never buy something you didn't play or hear in advance or you know you can sell with little money lost. I have one late 70s Tokai p bass that weighs 3.6 kg a Fender p bass from 1962 that weighs 3,8 kg and a Rickenbacker 4004 (also has a wider nut) that weighs 3,8 kg aswell. May be not extemely light but light enough to be comfortable and another good tip is get a good strap like a very wide leather strap or a comfort strap. Just put a little work in, you'll be able to get one too I guess, good luck. @ TrevorR that's not an easty to obtain instrument as they are very very rare!
  16. These are just awesome can truely vauch for them I have one too maple board 3.6 kg Sen ash body which this one prolly also has. Very resonant and growly but can also be very warm. Neck is just the right size. Slap fingers style pic everything works I play that bass all the time, and I have basses the cost couple of multiple times more! I haven't heard one that was bad they are very consistent go on youtube searching for hard puncher you'll Find out
  17. Hi, Having played and or had about every populair p bass config on the planet. And owning a 1962 p bass with laminated board (one of the first) that has 'that' perfect feel to the neck you mentioned. I'd say a JV 62p bass has the closest shape to a early 60s p bass. If you get a real early one you might even have nitro on the neck aswell. Altho the later ones still have that great shape. Strangely the 62 US reissues from 1982 to 2000's , the latest '63 one and even the Pino sig. CS do not quite get you there, nothing wrong with them ofcourse but still.. Being sort of in the same situation, as I don't play the 62 on gig's. I spent a great deal of time (years) getting a cheaper bass that was sort of on the same level in wheight playable and sound, which turned out to be incredibly hard! Nothing quite did it.. Untill I played a JV 62. In the end as I found out I love the b neck of my Tokai hardpuncher which is a more 70s style p bass and slighty shallower b neck, those are much cheaper as the JV's, it may not be your thing but it sure does the trick for me! Actually can't recall paying so little and getting so much potential out of a bass as this thing, but maybe I got very lucky not sure... Anyway just my 2 cents;) I have had the mex roadworn 50s p bass aswell which is essentially the same bass, was quite pleased with that one but I didn't keep it in the end:) but as you say great value for money for sure!
  18. I had, or actually still own a newer 2013/2014 made in Japan Tokai Jazz Sound. They still make more or less the model they made in the 80s mine has the fender style headstock, great gotoh 70s style fender tuners lightly flamed neck 2 piece ash body. Neck is a bit thicker then the old ones and it has a slab board instead of a curved one, which gives it more stability, I know this cause I have had 2 80 S jazz sounds before. Fit and finish are flaweless sounds pretty damn sweet too, they always manage to get the growly Jaco thing working. The one I have is pretty rare but some shops sell them just around 1000 euro. They also make a cheaper line with the non fender head and there is a Chinese line aswell, they are much cheaper but fit and finish will be less also.
  19. Wow what a good value for money! I had a 6 string of this at one point one hell of a bass! And this is one of mr Tobias finer basses!
