  1. You mean with your right (plucking) hand? I do from time to time, especially when playing triplets. Billy Sheehan had a section on it in a vid he did back in the early ninetites.
  2. Any decent compressor - I just love that squish!
  3. I'm sort of in the same boat - the ME50B ticked all the right boxes, but when I got to try it just didn't like the noises. The Zoom B2.1 sounded better, but I'm not sure how I'd get on with programming the thing.
  4. Nik's RBV does sound fantastic - it's Guiness in bass tone form - rich, smooth and creamy.

Bought my Digitech Bad Monkey today - turned up on time (I was five mins late) and had the right amount in cash (and is a nice chap too).
  6. I've got one for my IEM's (bought second hand without psu). Tis great bu mine has reverse polarity (so you plug the adaptor in the wrong way round). Not complaining at the price.
  7. I've got a guitarist like that. Plays really well, but won't use a tuner. Takes two or three songs to get to pitch.
  8. Lived there 10 years ago - lovely place (and great pubs)
  9. Thanks HH - They had changed the bulbs for this one t M89s - 50w 24v halogen. Found somewhere on line to buy them (£10 for 3), so we're going to get a few more just to be on the safe side. Until 6 months ago I lived in Southwater, just 5 miles from Partridge Green.
  10. All's great thanks Nick! Hope the same is for you. It's not as impressively technical as it sounds - the crossover's just three resisitors, two capacitors, said lamp and a choke on a pcb. Not much to check really. The motivation really kicked in when the singer (who was helping me at the time) said, "A new cab is just under a grand, that's less than £200 each" Any £200 I've got spare is going in my Omni 10.5 fund PS Hoping to come and se you guys again at the Elms next month.
  11. Took matters into my own hands and dismantled enough to get to the crossover. Had a lamp in there acting as a limiter, this had blown and the driver was overloading. Rang Turbosound and they're sending a couple of replacements FOC. At least if it happens at gig levels we've now got a replacement driver handy too.
  12. We've got a pair of Turbosound TL1561s. A three way cab with two passive crossovers. One of them has started emitting a crackling noise from the compression driver. Tried swapping speakon cables, amp channels, desk, everything. It's definitely the compression driver in that particular cab. Ordered a new comp driver - same problem. Could it be the crossover? Am I missing something?
  13. It interests me muchly, but unfortunately skinter than a very skint thing at the mo.
  14. When squier first did the reissue I remeber reading good things about rail-type pickups being a worthwhile upgarde, but a lipstick tube would look SSSSSSSSSSOOOOOOO cool (man)!
  15. I've not owned an 800RB (yet ) but I was reading the other day that they can make some odd noises - the fix is to put a patch-lead in the effects loop (assuming nthing else is there already). Sounds mad, but it might be worth a try?
  16. I've never had an active bass, but recently I'm starting to fancy active pickups with passive eq (just for the lower noise and ability to drive cable runs and effects). My brother on the other hand wouldn't be without active eq. My bass does nothing for him tone wise and vice versa. Horses for courses I guess.
  17. If it's the big output stage caps they'll probably look a bit like a very small drinks can on pins. Every competent amateur can tell the main components apart. so with a qualified electrician you've got no worries.
  18. Kudos, The two Tubeway Army albums and Numan's early stuff are some of my favourite discs of all time!
  19. Nice amp, I like those 800RBs! Could be caps. Cost of replacing them depends exactly on what they are. Only way to be certain is open the thing up, make sure the caps are safely discharged and get a multimeter on them. If you don't mind me asking, what trade-in value is riding on the amp?
  20. So your drummer'll be Jess Lidyard then? Welcome to Basschat!!
  21. +1 for the The Stone Roses eponymous debut A solid piece of bass doing exactly what bass should.
  22. Good to meet you Nik and a great gig by the whole band at a fantastic venue! Annie's already looking forward to your next gig. So much to enjoy, but special to kudos to your vocalist for taking the "toasting punter" in his stride
