I can only say positive things about my experience with Lugs. I started out with UE6s bought from Custom Iem Company and was very happy with them. After a couple of years they suddenly started sounding awful. All the bottom end had gone and I was having to drive them into distortion just to be able to hear them. I considered buying Lugs 6 driver model so contacted Robert. I explained the issue I had with my UE6s and he suggested that my ear shape had probably changed a bit making it so I was no longer getting a good seal. He offered to test them to check all was working inside and confirmed all components were functioning properly. I got my ear impressions redone by a local Audiologist (anyone in Northamptonshire I can highly recommend The Ear Place in towcester) and sent them to Robert at Lugs. Within a week he had reshelled my UE6s and now they sound better than they ever did. Saved me a fortune in buying new ones and have done probably 100+ gigs since with nothing but excellent sound. I sing a lot too and have never had any issues.

I mean, if the money's good then do what they want but thats pretty much a guaranteed way of playing to a half empty dancefloor. You'll have to start from scratch 5 times and as soon as you get them going you'll be saying "this is our last song before we take a 30min break". Sounds like a landlord who doesn't really have much experience of how itll work.

Xmas staff do for a haulage company last night at the M1 Junction 23 truck stop nr Loughborough. Entering the venue was like stepping back in time to the 1970s but a good bunch of people and a very easy gig.
-
Played under Concord last Friday for a Xmas bash.. Not all companies are struggling. £250k budget for the staff party.

I'm inclined to say it won't be enough. The thought of wringing everything out of a pair of Behringer active cabs, to get both vocals and keys heard, over the top of acoustic drums in a room like that would not fill me with joy. Any option to hire?

Just bought an amp head from Jim. Top quality comms from start to finish and lightning quick postage. Amp came packaged perfectly and in tip top condition. Hope to deal with him again. Great BC'er and a pleasure to deal with.

That's proper customer service and really it should be the norm. Sadly it seems, more often than not, to be the exception.

John East is one of the nicest companies to deal with. John is a true gentleman and responds quickly to all enquiries and, as many of us know, his products are ace. I'm fortunate to live relatively close to his HQ and have popped in a couple of times over the years. He happily fitted my pre for me while I waited. My biggest service gripe is when I pop into music shops and the person serving me is so distracted that they barely look me in the eye and they make me feel like I'm just an inconvenience that they're only happy to serve because it will get rid of me quicker.

Worst gig ever on weds. Wedding in a swanky tipi in a beautiful setting. Forced to use in house PA and no backline. Like so many venues they send details to the bride and groom stating "we have a state of the art in house sound system with over ten trillion watts of power and speakers hand crafted by angels using components delivered direct from the gods". The reality was that it was all cheap junk and limited to the point that the stereo in my old 1989 mini had more clout. Couldn't keep up with a drummer using brushes. If you ever get enquiries to play at Hadsham Farm Weddings near Banbury just walk away and say no thanks.

Two more weddings over the weekend. Friday - The West Mill in Derby. Played here a bunch of times before. Load in up a flight of stairs which is mildly inconvenient but the fact that guests are eating on a completely different floor and therefore not bothering us is more than compensation. 95db limiter but in reality its not a bad one and we definitely were over that all night without any issues. Bride, groom and guests were rough as anything and, fueled by lots of booze and an abundance of Colombian nose powder, they did pretty much everything in the book to be as obnoxious and downright rude as possible. Venue were very keen to tell us the million rules we were forbidden from breaking and not even remotely interested in doing anything about the blatant drug usage going on. We did the minimum and packed up and got out of there. Saturday - Upthorpe Woods nr Bury St Edmunds. Unusual outdoor woodland venue which would have been ace in anything other than Saturday's torrential downpours. We set up in the only real indoor space which was essentially a huge shed with a hollow wooden floor and a tin roof. Acoustics sounded like a huge shed with a hollow wooden floor and a tin roof. Bride, groom and guests were perfectly pleasant but not the wildest bunch you'll ever meet. Best part of the night was the pizza and the 11pm curfew. Home by 1am was definitely a welcome bonus. This coming weekend we are in Maidstone on Friday and then Ceredigion on Saturday so will spend most of the weekend driving. Oh the joys.

Post covid was a really rough time where it was like everyone had been let out of a cage and was hell bent on being as unpleasant as possible. We do have good weddings but the majority are not really all that great anymore. Between unpleasant guests and hostile venues with over the top limiters it's not as fun as it used to be. Maybe I'm getting too old or jaded.

You could see it in the bride's eyes. "Oh god what have I done?"

Four gigs in four days. All weddings and a ton of driving involved. Weds - (Kent) really uneventful and reserved with most people thinking about work the following day. Thurs - (Manchester) Friendly and enthusiastic crowd. LGBTW wedding with a really cool vibe. Had a lot of fun. Fri - (Stratford On Avon) Bride was lovely, Groom was a grade a **** who was far more interested in getting hammered with his football mates and being as obnoxious as possible. Completely ignored his new wife all night and at the end of the night had to be carried out of the venue. Sat - (Cambridgeshire) everything that's good about being in a wedding band. Lovely couple, great food (proper wedding cake), big enthusiastic crowd and a friendly venue. Also got to meet basschatter @silverfoxnik on the way up who has been an absolute legend and is helping me get a few (rather heavy) bits to another basschatter this week. Time to reintroduce myself to my wife and kids today and cook some nice food and enjoy some family time.

Have you tried using FB messenger? There's always a chance that your emails are getting caught in his spam filter by mistake. I messaged on messenger last week and had a reply within an hour.

I have used Lugs to reshell my old UE6's and Robert did a fantastic job. His communication was to the point but excellent. I know he's busy and isn't currently offering reshells but that wouldn't put me off ordering a set of new IEMs from him. He's busy for a reason and that is the quality of his work at a very reasonable price.

Compact budget PA set-up to put bass through (without back-line).
mrtcat replied to Al Krow's topic in PA set up and use
If it helps in any way, our current rig is 2 x RCF745A and 2 x RCF Sub 705 AS2 On gigs where a limiter is particularly strict the 745s will handle Guitar, Bass, Electric Drum Kit, Bass, Keys and 3 vocals. Would I want to use them alone to play in a rowdy pub? No but adding just one sub completely changes things and adding both subs makes a really solid system for audiences of up to 200. The 4 inch compression driver is a massive part of the sound. Vocals are just so much clearer and the high end never sounds harsh despite our guitarists best efforts. -

What would You call "Your doping" for bass playing?
mrtcat replied to nilorius's topic in General Discussion
Money. As long as I'm getting paid properly I'll find the energy to perform. -

We use that many deps I don't really know which drummer is our regular one.

For sale for spares or repair is an old Mesa Boogie Powerhouse 2x10. Only one driver is working. All wiring has been checked but the driver is seized solid. Other driver is working fine. Heavier than Saturn but pretty much built like a tank. The cost of a new driver means I'll not be replacing the broken one. If you have the same cab with a broken driver this is about £200 less than the cost of a new driver. Collection only from NN12 8XR
