Yep..this was the one i sold to Nick...he is a great guy..so deal with him with confidence.... the precision was a very great one...warm, solid , classic precision sound , probably with the new pickup will sound also better and you can be sure of the collectors value because the original pup is there also....so go for it!
Thanks Marco
 2. Here's a link to my For Sale post on Basschat http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=...mp;#entry160796
 3.
Was this from HiperIon? If so,theres a vid on youtube of said bass in action
It's the very same (a great guy with quality gear). I'll check out Youtube for the link and here it is. For all you Hooky fans!!! 4. Right, I've finally got my arse in to gear and am putting my 76 P Bass up for sale. I say it's a 76 because the serial number says it is. The body and neck however are dated 1975, and the pots are dated Feb 76, so it must be right on the cusp. It has the ealry 70's neck transfers and the early 70's style serial number stamped on the neckplate. It's 100% original apart from the volume and tone knobs. It currently has a Wizard Thumper in it, but I still have the original pickup which is included in the sale. I will also supply the original strap buttons and pickguard screws. It also comes with the chrome pickup cover which I have removed for ease of playing. The pickguard is 100% original and in fantastic condition (no cracks or anything). The bass has virtually no buckle rash but the paint has worn on the top edge where the elbow or wrist rests. Other than that, it is in fantastic condition. There's also some stippling on the front of the body where it looks like someone playing with cufflinks or a cuff button has worn part of the finish. The colour is Mocha brown and shows off the grain of the body fantastically. It's a real head turner. It's got a rosewood fingerboard (excellent conditon) and the frets are excellent too. The neck is beautiful and very fast. I had it checked out by a Fender expert a while back and hes said the neck was a real player's neck. This is a very reluctant sale as I'm very sad to see this bass go (a loss of hearing has affected my ability to pick up P Bass sounds now). After purchasing a Lakland Joe Osborn 5 stringer, it has become apparent that Jazz basses are the way to go. If you have any questions, please let me know. Thanks for looking.
 5.
On my recently purchased CIJ Jazz, there are thumb rest holes pre-drilled in the scratchplate just below the G string. Why the hell is it there? Surely its not a thumb rest in that position. Ive seen other Jazzes with it above the E. Where is the correct place for a 75? The same applies to a 62 Precision - where should the rest be? I'd like to see some pics, as I've bought a couple and I wanna put them on in the correct place! Cheers Ian
There was a thread on this a while back Ian. Early/mid 70's saw the thumb rest move to above the E String (this was when it became a thumb rest). Prior to this, it was a tug/pull bar (you hooked your fingertips round it for grip and were supposed to play the strings with your thumb- Leo's idea of how Double bassists or guitarists would play an electric bass I guess).
 6. I know I've not posted this on Basschat officially (soon to be rectified) but thanks for the interest so far. I would let this P Bass go to a fellow BCer for £1,100. I've been told it would be worth more, but it's getting no use whatsoever (it's not even got stirings on it at the moment!). I've just gor hold of TimmyC's Lakland Joe Osborn 5 stringer and it's fantastic!! It seems Jazz basses are the way to go for me. So, on that note, I'd consider a P/Ex with a decent Lakland JO 4 string or a Fender US Jazz (preferably a rosewood board) with a cash adjustment. Anyone interested at all?
 7. I'd go for it Rich. You can always get a new one again if it doesn't work out. But, how often does a vintage one in that sort of condition come along? It's stunning
 8. Here's the link. I know the seller personally....he's a top guy and one Hell of a Stud http://ngvi.ebay.co.uk/vi?ngvi&backtoi...33welgmXKKDU%3D
 9. It's mine!!! All original. Promise. The original pickup will be sent with the bass (and all the chrome bits and pieces too). I'll even send the original pickguard screws! I put it on last night. If anybody wants any more info, please PM me. Probably priced a wee bit high, but it is Ebay....would work something out for fellow BCer's
 10.
you lot have really odd wives I plan for mine to have a vagina.
You won't need it after you're married.... Personally, I'd go for one with no ears or voice box
 11.
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Standing-Shadows-M...0385&sr=8-1 I'm sure I got my copy from here for about £12 a couple of years ago. Have also read recently: Erc Clapton: agree with The Burpster. All about his addictions. Guy Pratt: Seems to mainly glorify his substance abuse? Horace Panter: Seems more of a normal bloke than I thought he'd be. Good read. I think that's it. There's also loads of biogs on the net. Not as comprehensive as a book, but type your favourite player into Google, and hit "go". It's amazing what you can find!
Not read the Horace Panter book, but agree entirely with the Clapton and Guy Pratt books. Clapton's book was really heavy in parts and he certainly seems to be damaged goods (like so many geniuses I guess). As good as the stories were and as talented a bassist as Guy Pratt clearly is, I thought Guy Pratt actually come out of it as a well, Pratt. This is my own opinion of course I would like to add that one of the best (and unusual) music biographies I've read is Christie Moores One Voice. An amazing book
 12.
Yeah ... sob ... hill of beans .. crazy world ... Hey your Latte Precision is clearly broken as it's inaudible - I'll help you out and take it off your hands. I think I can get it fixed. My mate gave me a quote of "around 4 thousand punds" to do the job so .. fancy a swap for my very audible SX P ?
Those nice Irish fellas who came round knocking at the house yesterday said they'd Tarmac it for £100, so I'll maybe get back to you
 13.
Our date's off then I guess ... So fickle, these bass players
There will always be a special place in my heart for you Si. After all, it was YOU who introduced me to the wonderful (and expensive) world of Custom P5's. We'll always have the M4....
 14.
Yes he has Nick. Shame as he was doing very well. and Yes it could be!! Good fun bunch of guys.
I'm quite tempted to drop them a line
 15. Has Andy left then Dave? This could be a really good little gig
 16.
Nick - what about the Shuker P5? Hope he hasn't routed it yet - need room for 2 pickips now....
I've arranged with Jon to go up there when I pick it up and go through a whole range of pickups. If it needs to go active, he'll do it there and then for me. He's fast becoming my favourite person in the whole world
 17.
Firstly mate I'm really sorry to hear of your injury to your hand. If its any comfort I had an accident back in 2000 when I had close to half of 3 fingers crushed off my left hand by some hydraulic rescue equipment. It took a while, maybe 2 1/2 to 3 years but I discovered (by accident, noodling in a music shop) that I could still play reasonably well. And with a bit of practice and adapting my left hand technique I now play Bass better than I did before. I don't know the extent of your injuries but I do know that its possible to overcome some pretty serious injuries. There's a guy on you tube (Bill Clements) who lost his right arm and he still plays (very well as it happens). I guess its like anything in life, if you want it badly enough you will succeed. Stay positive and good luck.
Same here. I lost the knuckle of my ring finger on my left hand (boys will be boys) and had to have an artificial one. I had to adapt my playing style majorly after the op, but it's certainly do-able and I wish you the very best of luck.
 18. I sold a really nice US P Bass to Martthebass which I regret. My all-time favorite bass was a 1989 US Precision in Midnight blue that was stolen 2 years ago. Easily replaceable monetarily, but it was an old friend.
 19. Well, my eyes have been well and truly opened... Having owned a couple of Jazz basses over the years, but not being too enamoured with them (I always found the body shape a bit awkward and the neck a little bit too thin), I decided that it may be worth trying them again due to the problems I've had hearing the P bass recently. I've just bought TimmyC's Lakland Joe Osborn 5 string off him and the difference to my hearing is amazing. I can hear every note cut through and the definition is amazing. So, after being a dyed-in-the-wool Precision player, I've now discovered the beauty of the Jazz bass. The only sad part about this is that it has cemented my decision to move my P Bass on, as I really can't afford to have it sitting there not being played.
 20.
Hope that works out for you Nick. I played a Charity gig with the DJ5 last night - had to go straight into the desk, hardly heard a bloody note all night. Could have sworn on a few occasions I was on the 'wrong' string - nobody seemed to notice. Is that a reflection on my playing or does no one listen to the bass
First gig with a 5 stringer Mart and I started the whole song on the B String instead of the E....again, nobody noticed!!
 21. Just picked this up from Tim today as I am hoping it's going to be my solution to the problems I'm having with my P Bass (see separate post). Exactly as Tim described (spotless) and the typical high standard Lakland build (Tim also included a Sadowsky soft/hard case which is excellent quality too). The body is a traditional Jazz shape (unlike the Darryl Jones) and the neck is fantastic. Despite it being a 35" scale (I'm used to 34") it feels incredibly comfortable and the profile is far more to my liking than the DJ (a lot slimmer and not as flat fingerboard). Plugged in, the bass sounds amazing and the low B is tight and very defined. It's not quite as modern sounding as the DJ, but I think it suits my style of playing better. The good news is I can hear it as clear as a bell!! I'm going to give it a run out on Wednesday and possibly fit a preamp to it (either East or Audere) but I'm well impressed. The bad news is that I'm going to have to sell my P Bass for definite now, but I feel happier doing so now that I've got a great bass to replace it. Thanks a million Tim.
 22. Welcome aboard If you click on "My Controls" and then go to "Edit signature" (I Think), you'll be able to list your gear permanently. There are a couple of Phil Jones users on here and they rate his gear very highly. Lots of Marcus bass fans too!!
 23.
What strings are you using?
Rotosound Swingbass Roundwounds (not sure of the gauge but I think they're 45-105's)
 24.
OHM, whereabouts in Surrey are you? Do you want to borrow a BDDI to play with for a bit? Don't wanna see you sell that gorgeous bass, we'll help find an alternative
Merton Thanks very much for the offer. Bass Ferret was kind enough to offer me the loan of his EBS Microbass too and I'm really grateful. I tried one at the weekend but it really didn't make much difference. Last night I actually turned off my Bass Xciter to see if that helped at all (it's the really boomy sound that I can't hear) and this helped a bit. Every time I decide what I'm going to do, I change my mind again!!
 25.
MB1. No!....didnt think youd sell that one!. You seem to be having a little trouble on the bass front these days!........still havent found what youre looking for?
I've got my trusty old Stingray that will always be there and the P was my other bass to compliment it (I thinned out my hoarde from 6 at the end of last year to 2). Basically I was only using these 2 anyway, so decided to have a clear out and live some room for "whimsical purchases". Since Christmas, I've been struggling with the P just because I can't hear it!! I've tried different amp settings, angling the cab, standing closer, standing further away, a preamp, 3 different types of pickup etc etc etc. Unfortunately, nothing is working. I don't think it's a case of not finding what I'm looking for, but more a cse of finding it and realising that we can't get on together! I had a Lakland DJ4 a while back and although I didn't like the neck profile, the sound it gave me was incredibly clear (especially when I fitted the J Retro), so my heart says keep the P Bass and hope that something comes along that improves things, but my head (and bank balance) says move on and continue the search...
