You should only be up at 12 o'clock on the master at gig volumes even then I'm often a lot less, back off that preamp gain some more. My clip light flickers a bit but not much, if your using the amps EQ heavily that also affects the pre amp signal.

But I already have a 3.0 also so it would make 18.0

I know people complain about not having a specialist shop local but if it were me I'd still rather spend a few quid travelling to try stuff if we are talking £2k plus, most cases we are talking half a tank of fuel £40, in the op's case fair enough it's going to be more like £200 with a night in a travel lodge but is that such a big deal in the context of a £4k Fodera? Most people in the market for the basses mentioned will spend a lot of time and money travelling to see how things are going, one BC member I know must of spent £1000's travelling to GB basses in Brighton and another I know has been to NY to choose his Sadowsky, living somewhere a hundred miles or so away from bass direct in the midlands really is no excuse IMO

If your Ashdown has more top end than the Genz you have put me right off the idea of getting a Streamliner which is good because I cant really afford one! Looks like I'm a Shuttle man through and through.

I agree even if it is only the valves the get blown if thats halfway through a gig its not much help! Now If you had a Shuttle 9.0 I could of took that off you to fund another cab but I already have a 6.0

How can they be Marmite when it took you ages to find out you dont like them and that they are so bad? Thats the whole point of the Marmite arguement you either love them or hate it, not love it for ages,buy loads,rave about it then change your mind and tell everyone not to buy it.

Opinion is divided on this amp according to google, some people say running at 4ohms with an 8 ohm cab will be fine using the rule of thumb of a 100% so upto 8 and down to 2 in the 4 ohm position, flick it to 2 ohms though for smoke and flames!

See I'm not familiar with that amp so if it is then you need to check it out properly

That's just saved you a few quid then! It should say somewhere what it puts out at 8 ohms , probably just over half what it's rated at when running at 4 ohms so your cab should be fine

I dont understand the question, you can still use the 8 ohm cab with the amp in the 4 or 2 ohm position, thats minimum ohms or am I missing the point?

Never noticed much damage from them as they have usually been put in the bin for dead strings before that happens, they are not for me

The most obvious example I can think of is how great it can sound when the bass is thundering away fast and heavy but the drummer drops into half time or even starts with some awkwardly timed cymbal hits/rolls etc, so no not [u]always[/u]

Does it not only lift it from the DI socket anyway? The chassis of the amp is earthed in a fixed manner near the cable entry so Im 99.99% certain andydye's very good and informative post is mostly nonsense When everything is connected including your DI out you can create an earth loop between everything in the room I guess this creates a basic magnetic pickup?

But what about the ones perhaps you can connect with yet did not pay as much attention to?

Im not really on about the people who watch the same youtube clip a 1000 times to nail every little nuance just the general what you had on your walkman (gramaphone, Discman, iPod, minidisc, 8 track etc) most of the time, I have turned out nothing like any of them, Newstead, Novoselic, Duff etc were all my heros yet Im not sure I can hear any of them in there?

I think a lot of it is rose tinted specs though and more about the value of them than how much you liked them? The other problem is the people who think those basses are still there at those prices! I have often seen people comment on pre EB threads about the price and remarks about how little they cost in the USA, they think the same basses are $750 in the States the same as they were when they went on holiday in 1992

Over the last few years I have realised that most of the players I have loved when growing up and learning to play have not really influenced my own playing, influenced me [i]to[/i] play maybe but not actually added to my own way of playing. These are my main favourites, I love John Deacon always have yet I play nothing like him (slight bit of Ray influence from there maybe), I love Flea but never really went down that route as such (Ray influence for sure though), Duff from Guns n Roses I love his style and his sound yet again never really played in that fashion either and only really had a fling with a P bass (martthebass now owns it) never mind an aerodyne or special. On the flipside I enjoy the odd bit of Jamiroquai but not a massive fan or anything yet I can nail a Stuart Zender line quite quickly by ear no problem, Its not that I am a great player as I'm really not nor do I have any super slap skills either but his slap or funky style is more like my own and it just slots in. His sound is totally removed from my own too in fact Im not sure where that comes from So question is who do you love and have always listened to but sound nothing like and visa versa who do you quickly relate too when working out any covers or riffs etc particularly a band or artist you never really admired as such?
