1.
give it a try on the bassbar side
That was where I noticed the air coming from even when I was not playing, must have been a sub frequency playing on its own, I shoved the foam in and it was lots better, the treble side did not make much difference thinking about it. I might make some F hole plugs and try again next practice armed with a tennis ball too
2. I guess that makes sense as its my carved top that is vibrating in unison with everything else? the ball would stop the top resonating so much, worth a shot, ta
3. Make sure the new owner does not use those stupid leads with the springy thing on, or in fact it would make more sense if you did before, it will bugger the jack socket and only work with that lead after. I have seen one where it works OK with a planet waves lead but not with a normal tip, it gave similar results?
4. Im presuming put it in and blow it up?
5. Intrigued, go on....
6. Haha your hooked!
7. Cheers that's all useful, I have just been looking at home made velcro f hole covers too.
8. This thread has really got my intrest, I'm pretty sure this is my only option too, already got a fishman and a bassmax.
9. Might have a look at mag pickups then, also I might try putting the fishman into the pa so the cabs are out in front, I wonder if my bass has a particularly resonant top?
10. I must be sh*t hot then! So why do I sound so crap
11. Probably, I'm not too worried about tone at that volume, any recommendations?
12.
Yep...party tricks don't get gigs unless the rest of your game is up there as well. If I had to guess, I'd say a fair few spend so much more time on Basschat than they ever do on a gig...
13. I thought the person with the best gear was best?
14. I liked the Bongo best overall, shame I dont like the look of them! The P did nothing for me in any genre.
15. I think the Ceramic Vs Alnico makes more difference than you think (I have both identicle other than the pup basses hanging right here, strung the same too), that said the 3 EQ with the ceramic sounds kind of like a 2 band but with controllable mids, this might be why I like it so much?
16. So my ongoing feedback troubles remain, practice last night with a Genz shuttle 6.0 and 1x12 cab using a Fishman Pro and a K&K Bassmax pickup, we are practicing in a small church like a scout hut really. I have tried going in via the return and the line in along with the normal input, with and without the Fishman. The best result was with the foam packing from the Fishman stuffed in the F holes! I could feel the air coming out of the F holes before I could even hear the feed back begin! So should I block the F holes? I know plenty of you dont but maybe at the volume I want to play at it might be the only way? Thoughts and advice welcome as ever, yours frustrated, Pete
17.
Take it to the gig , there is nothing like going outside your comfort zone. I have an "second " audition for a group on Saturday for an acoustic country / rockabilly band made up of professional musicians ( one of whom teaches double bass !) who want me to play slap bass. So thats me playing a musical genre I'm not that familar with , using a technique I've never been taught on an instrument I've had for 5 months in front of people who do it for a living - What can possibly go wrong ! If I can do that then you can at least play a set on db with material you know !
That sounds crazy! good luck Took the DB instead of the EUB to practice last night and my feedback troubles were pretty much just the same, the best thing about the Fishman pro was when I used the foam to block the F holes! I really need to sort that out but I might still gig it at the acoustic gig as I am hoping to get enough volume for that but trying to play while the others are building a shed with road drills is not going to work
18. Once you get your head around the various rays my collection makes more sense, I have a classic with all the old features plus it's alnico and two band, my 2010 is 3 band alnico, 2007 is 3 band ceramic, both have pickup switching selectors, if the ceramic in single coil mode with the mids boosted won't cut through nothing will, forget the p bass! Those three basses cover all the various single pickup versions , if I had to keep just one it would actually be the ceramic SR5 that was after ten years of avoiding ceramic equipped ones
19. Nuts, ends, rods, you lot are awful
20. Nice one all of you! I'm going to take it to practice later and see if I can get a useable sound out of it, got the bass max and the Fishman now but I'm still having trouble, if it sounds ok I will go for it
21. Ah good out come then,I too was thinking the other end.
22. I presume everyone else is the same in that my necks have required the most tension ever due to this current weather, I have actually only tightened my classic to gig standard as I know they will all go back soon. As long as its ok now you should be ok and might even be slackening it off in a couple of months, a washer might be a worthy addition though.
23. That's the thing with db, everyone will watch! All those years as the anonymous bassist are over even with the stagg so I know they will love the db. That's some long set btw.
24.
Do it, perfect opportunity
I will report back with the outcome!
25.
Take heart mate, even my wife has said im getting better after just a few months of learning. although i am far from any form of performance
So am I but it won't stop me
