1.
I thought Inti was O.K. You clown whores never gave him a fair chance because he didn't speak English as his first language and couldn't resist the chance to bully him off Basschat . He was a good bass player too, judging by his YT videos. I'm not that bad a player myself either, Pete.
Thats where you and him differ from me then, I dont judge on good or bad playing really as I prefer enjoy or didnt enjoy. I dont enjoy Mark King's music but he is a good proficient player, just doesnt get me going like a nice simple Kris Novoselic bass line for example.
2.
Are there winners in art forms now? If one person gets a fuzzy feeling when listening to the dexterity and technique of a song that has been written from the music school rule book, surely there will be others who get the same happy feeling from what pixies do, on the basis that pixies and Kim deal are average untalented etc etc. Surely it's all opinion or have we decided that a schooled "talented" musician is always better? To me some incredibly able jazz players fall into the Eric Morcambe camp of "all the right notes, not necessarily in the right order" I also think flea is awful but I'm ready for lots of people to correct me on that one.
Have you given soul to squeeze a proper listen?
3. Dingus has been possessed by Inti Mahesh! £5 coming my way?
4. I haven't heard of half of the players Dingus is spouting about but I know every player I met with similar views against anyone they didn't enjoy listening too was a terrible player themselves, not in their own opinion obviously, just sayin'
5. You could see if the seller can play it for you, if he can't there is a good chance your boy friend will be stood there trying to sell it himself unable to play it in a few years time too. On the other hand if the seller can get a tune out of it then it might be ok as a starter bass.
6. I'll be the first to admit occasionally the 2eq can be tricky to get to sit in the on stage mix although it usually sounds great out front still, on those gigs you will be reaching for the bongo but when they are good there is something in the 2 eq sound that is just that bit more awesome than anything else!
7.
Mine's bigger then yours. Careful when you go through airport security, the buggers set them off as I found out when I when to Prague.
It's all out now, that was the second OP after one of the screws had gone too far through into the joint, my ulna is now too long for my radius. Playing another instrument is great advice, even a little Casio keyboard can be used to be creative
8.
Cheers Pete, great to hear about your silver lining and positivity. I totally agree that it really is all about silver linings and it's great to read about yours. Though I'm sure you bank manager might say otherwise, those upright beasts sure do cost something special!
I suppose its more of a titanium lining really, lol
9.
One thing that I did notice. No matter how much pain I was in, the GAS never went away.
Mine went in search of double basses which has/will cost me even more than the electric basses I had my eye on, lol
10. As Bassman Sam knows as we have discussed this before I mashed my wrist in Nov 2012, after two operations I'm left with 75% grip in my left wrist and 50% of the Flexion which is more problematic than the grip strength really, after hundreds of hours of physio this is now deemed permanent. This is why I started on upright bass, every cloud and all that. Hoping things improve soon for you Daniel and I'm glad you are playing again Sam
11. I just added the link, lol. Over 3300 people have seen me doing something with my little finger at one point and some kind of slap effort at the end already!
12. Went for a curry last night, the waiter said someone wants to put their meal on our tab, I look over its this guy Ricky who I was in a blues rock band with over 4 years ago! Got chatting and he whips out his phone to show me some clips of the band complete with me trying to hone my left and right hand techniques to suit the Blue SR5 in my sig that was purchased earlier that day from PMT Birmingham! In at the deep end springs to mind.
13. Its been a while since we had a big up thread for Jake As ever I have plenty of home work to do mainly on the two octave scale in F but its all the little pointers that add up to a noticeable improvement before he has even left, all tailored to my (lack of) ability so it covers my technique, theory, practice regime and general playing, thanks again Jake
14. Serious answer is they are like the other 1000 j copies from Encore to Alleva Coppolo, some are amazing for tuppence and some are amazing for £3500, others are awful for £90 and some arent a lot better for thousands more, all you can do is try them out ime.
15. Well bonfire night will be here in just a few months
16. Looks like you need a new spirit level
17. First things first is it a proper SGC nanyo Bass Collection or a later p or j bass replica job? If its the former they are the bargain of the century with the best build quality you will find equally matching basses in the £1-2000 range. Really light and comfy, good hardware, nice woods, good preamps.
18. Yes I bet them strings will help it sing, the ones on it were clean enough but probably 4 years old.
19. It could be the best bargain ever or expensive firewood! As long as its all there you probably cant lose, have you got any pictures of it etc, like your boyfriend I have played bass for years but only double bass for 18 months and it really is like starting out all over again! The double bass section on this site is really friendly so make sure you send him this way. Im having lessons on a casual basis with Jake Newman from this site (got one tomorrow!) and following Geoffs discover double bass lessons on youtube (also a member here), they are the best on there by miles! Back to bass...hmm...if its an ebay chinese one some are totally unplayable and a waste of cash which leaves other budget options of; Gear4music which get mixed feelings often can be made to play ok but costing a lot to get them to a decent level. Thomann do a range of basses with the better ones being reported as pretty good for the money and certainly playable. GedoMusik do a range too but I think there budget ones are more than entry level thomann ones, quite a few of us here have Gedos, myself included after much looking went for a mid level one as I wanted one I could grow into. Gedo are german but they reply to emails quickly in good English and have shown great service with only one faulty bass I know of on here where the problem was resolved quickly and to the customers satisfaction. Good luck with the search and lucky him!
20. Im bored with p and j though, I like that tele!
21. I like the dog basket!
