1. Nothing past 19Khz. But at 28 that should be about right. I have always worn ear plugs though so Im pretty sure thats been the major contributor to keeping most of my hearing. Maybe its time to invest in some nice moulded ones though ...the doc pro plugs are ok but do lose a fair bit of top end clarity.
2. "Dr Funkenstein" by Parliament ....as a contrast though the song before was "Burial at Sea" by Goatsnake. Can't beat a bit of funk after massive crushing stoner doom
3. Now this looks interesting.... Im quite tempted as long as the reserve isn't set too high. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...T#ht_500wt_1182
4.
Does anybody else think the listing is a little dubious? The seller has no feedback and the pictures are the same as the other listing, maybe just a lazy seller as it seems to have stayed in Norfolk
Considering he's put his number on the listing and is happy for people to go try it out I reckon its legitimate. Give the bloke a ring if your really interested in buying it. I saw this on a peruse through Ebay yesterday. Another one to add to the god knows how many I have in my watched items.
5.
2 new Fender SKB fitted hard cases with 2 keys per case. Case made from molded plastic with reinforced frame, 4 heavy duty hinges & latches with TSA approved lock, handy for taking your bass on flights. Would also fit a Stingray but the interior is slightly too large round the body for a Sterling, the reason I'm selling. £110 ono each, can be collected from Warrington, Cheshire or posted.
Hello mate, how much is postage to BN17/Littlehampton, West Sussex?
6.
AS I SAID BEFORE. Im new here, and cant believe the agression towards Mark King.. He's done so much for bringing bass to the fore, prob more than anyone in the last 30 years. And to those who just dismiss him as a machine gun slap-bassist...you need to open your minds and ears and really have a listen to Level 42... Mark is a top top class finger style player too!! as good as anyone on the planet!!...he plays with lots of heart and is well- brilliant at either style he chooses to play....and is a great singer too (the fact that he sings at the same time as playing such amazing basslines is incredible)...give their music and albums a real good listen and dont just dismiss him......who on here has achieved as much as Mark? nobody!! LISTEN TO THE MUSIC.
I've heard enough Level 42 to be able to offer my opinion on Mark Kings playing. I would conclude that you are a very big fan of L42? I can't say I have achieved as much as Mark but then you could argue that because Mark King didn't climb Mt Everest he hasn't achieved as much as Sir Edmund Hilary. Unfortunately, unless you join a Mark King/L42 forum you will find people on here that like him and people that don't and if people that don't like him angers you then maybe this isn't the best forum to be on.
7. I think they are both over-rated. Mark King is technically awesome but my god, its like taste and the ability to hold back aren't in his skill set. Although the bass line on 'The Chinese Way' shows he can actually peddle a decent finger style bassline. I hate his tone though. I would say Flea is less technically proficient but he does at least have a proper bass sound but I don't like RHCP either. Freddie Washingtons bass line on 'Forget Me Nots' ...now thats how slap bass should be done!!
8. The last track I learnt was Master Blaster by Stevie Wonder and I also re-learnt Hit Me with Your Rhythm stick by Ian Dury and The Blockheads at roughly the same time.
9. I sold an american deluxe p-bass 5 string to a guy that dropped the low B in favour of a high C. Not something I would do but I would certainly do it if I needed the C as a 6 string just isn't comfy to play in my opinion.
10.
First of all,I think you can ignore the grade 6 thing. I do quite a few shows and don't have any grades at all. I'll be honest with you,if your reading isn't happening you are going to struggle with the gig. Let's say you did go and get a copy of the soundtrack and learnt it like you suggest. What will happen if the MD hands out a new copy of one of the tunes in a totally different key because it's too high for the singer? It's also not uncommon for a piece to have a couple of cuts in it. If you are basically playing it by memory alone, you will be lost if the band is asked to cut at bar 67,pick it up again at 114, play until 132,cut to 175, and vamp bars 184 to 188 until cue. Things like that happen all the time,so you need to know where you are and make notes accordingly. Sometimes they happen after a performance or two, when they need to cut some time, or make room for a dance or something. If that happens you need to mark it down and then play it straight away. You can't do it by remembering the CD version. Lessons to learn how to read are always a good idea, but don't expect to be able to sight read a complex pad in a few weeks.
+1 If pit musician is one of your intended career paths then you have to be able to sight read to a good standard otherwise you wont get the work. If you don't have them already I would recommend getting The Complete Electric Bass Player: The method by Chuck Rainey and Standing in the Shadows of Motown: The life and music of legendary bassist James Jamerson. Both books really helped my sight reading. Good luck with the audition.
11. This is in reference to the sale of my Yamaha TRB1005 in natural to Justabass. Collected and paid with cash, nice bloke and good bassist.
12.
I don't think it was blowing fuses. I think it was just having a mad 5 minutes. I've been playing it flat out for about an hour and a half and it's working fine now. I e-mailed ashdown so when they reply i'll take a course of action but it might have just been a funny 5 minutes.
In my experience with electronics (I work in the electronics industry) anything that is having a "funny five minutes" is a symptom of an underlying problem that will only get worse and in many cases lead to failure. The last thing you need is to have it break down during a gig or recording.
13. what about a set of flat wounds? Might be worth trying if you prefer a dull thud as opposed to a toppy ping. I go slap-tastic in the first couple of weeks of owning a new set then go back to my normal finger style after that and by that point the initial new string brightness has mostly gone but with just enough left not to be completely dead. I don't change strings on my bass very often though. probably only 3-4 times a year. I change my guitar strings fairly regularly though as dull guitar strings sound rubbish to me.
14.
I think i've bought a steam engine as this thing has serious mood swings. It's working now and has been since my last post. The new Fender P sounds glorious through the Superfly and a 2x10! Why does it do this to me? I think the new lead might not have been pushed in properly when i first tried it. Fingers crossed this lasts...
Seeing as its blowing fuses so regularly I would definitely get it sent back to Ashdown to get them to sort it out under warranty.
15. Nothing wrong with Bugera amps. They are well built, look good and have a decent range of sounds and for not a lot of money. Too many people jump on the Behringer bashing bandwagon without ever having used any of the gear.
16. Seriously, I wouldn't worry about it. Valves will go for ages before dying. Check the colour of them from time to time, when they have a weak, blue-ish glow it means they are on the way out. Having said that though even then they will still go on for a while yet. My mate had a Mesa Triple Rec for 9 years without changing the valves and the amp spent a lot of its life on the road touring. My Mesa F30 combo hasn't had a valve change in 3-4 years and still sounds as sweet as a nut and I gig the balls off that! Although I would say one thing and that is try not to drop the thing or you will be changing valves
17. The Squier Vintage Modified and Classic Vibe basses are indeed fantastic. I have played them back to back with MIM Fenders and find they do feel nicer to play. With the addition of some quality pickups you can have an awesome playing, sounding and looking bass for a lot less than a MIM Fender Standard P or J.
18. Heres a few more pics of the bass.
19. Hey guys, Im a newbie here and Im selling (or swapping/part ex'ing which Ill get to later) my Yamaha TRB1005. Its in 99.9% mint condition. It has a manufacturing blemish on the rear of the top cutaway. Its a little white mark under the lacquer. Its about 5mm long and 2mm wide. You can only see it when you actually look at it so its a bit of a non-thing in my opinion. It plays and sound fantastic but Im migrating back to 4 strings. I cant post as I have nothing to ship it in so collection only. Im looking for £450 ono or a swap/p'ex for a Marcus Miller jazz or a MIM 70s jazz bass, although I will consider any other jazz bass. Thanks for looking, Jon. Please feel free to PM me if you have any questions. More pics to follow.
20. Hi guys and gals, Stumbled on this forum whilst looking to see how much I'd get for my yamaha trb then got sucked into the gear porn page and that was that. I've been playing bass and guitar about 12 years now. Sold a heap of bass gear a while back to fund a Mesa triple rectifier as I was playing more guitar than bass at that point but now the rectifier has been downsized to an F30 combo and I just bought an ampeg BA112 for home use and I'm currently looking at buying back my old EBS HD350 head and 2x12. Currently own a single bass, a Yamaha TRB1005 in natural. Fantastic bass but I've been after a jazz bass for ages now so it'll be appearing in the sale thread shortly. I play and listen to loads of music but I tend to listen to a lot of stoner/doom/southern rock but being a bass player my funk collection is fairly extensive Chinese beef curry and westons organic cider is also awesome! Cheers, Jon
