1. Hi guys. Im selling my recto 1x12 combo. I don't really need to go on about how great it sounds as most people know what they sound like now. Its in used but good condition. It has 2 extra handles fitted to the sides and these match the original mesa strap on top. It also has a slip cover but that is non-original. Its also missing the footswitch. Photos will go up this evening. Im looking for £650 cash on collection only which is a very reasonable asking price seeing as they retail at over £1700. I have no box or anything suitable so dont want to ship. I am on the lookout for an Orange Dual Terror head so would consider that and a cash adjustment for the mesa. Photos will go up this evening. Cheers, Jon.
2. I've not had valve bass amps but I've had plenty of valve guitar amps and currently use an all valve mesa boogie which gets properly cranked at every gig ....and its done tons! Had a Laney VH100R die onstage but that was because it turned out to be faulty and managed to blow all the fuses in the amp once the volume hit the 10 o'clock position ...even without a guitar plugged in ...very strange.
3. I see from your sig you use run this through a 2x15 live? Whats the clean headroom like on it through the 2x15? £325 is awful tempting...
4. I've bought a number of things from Thomann and when I had a problem with a Brian Moore guitar they took it back without question. It was collected the same day and a replacement arrived the next day. Needless to say I was super impressed!
5. I did a gig with a band called Pombagira a little while back and the vocalist/guitarist had a monstrous rig. A pair of Sunn Model T's, a pair of old Marshall's (super leads I think) an some other old valve heads running through 4 4x12's and 2 8x10's. The first band I've seen that actually made my balls flap about ...Im being super serious!
6. The chassis looks clean and looks tidy inside. What condition the output and mains transformers and valve bases are in remains to be seen as the pictures don't give too much away. Could be a nice project though.
7. It depends on how the cabs are wired internally. Some will run in series when plugged one into another and others will be parallel. If the cabs run parallel then 4 ohms is spot on. In series its 16ohms so will be too high. Im sure the Ampeg site has an FAQ section that will tell you whether the cabs run series or parallel when daisy chained. If they are Ampeg cabs that is. Otherwise just check the site of whoever makes them.
8.
yes, both cabs have outputs, im presuming that the SWRs are wired in paraellel, not series?
Ok. Found this on the SWR website. Q: I have a mono amplifier*. Should I use the speaker outputs on the rear panel of my amplifier to connect my speaker enclosures, or connect a speaker cable from the head to cab #1 and then a speaker cable from cab #1 to cab #2? A: There is no advantage one way or the other, as both methods produce the same result—a parallel connection that delivers the same amount of power to each speaker enclosure (given that your enclosures have the same impedance). For the sake of simplicity, we generally recommend connecting each enclosure directly to the speaker outputs on the amplifier. Right, if the above is correct then if you rewire the 2ohm as 8ohm and run: HEAD into 2x10 into 1x15. Going on the assumption the info is right, the two cabs will be running in parallel so the cabs total load will be 4ohms.
9. In that case then leave the 2x10 at 2ohms and go: Head -> 2x10 -> 1x15. The total ohms would equate to 6ohms which will be fine with the head. Does the 2x10 have an out on it then?
10. Id rewire the 2x10 back to 8 ohms. Assuming the head has two 8 ohm outs, the two cabs in parallel will run at 4 ohms. If you run the 2x10 into the 1x15 then thats running in series and if you leave as is you will get 6 ohms which the head should be ok with but I wouldn't run two 8 ohm cabs in series though as you will be putting an excessive strain on the amp, although not life threatening, it will shorten the life of the valves and output transformer.
11. Hmmmmm interesting. Although maybe a little under powered for gigging. Or is it? ...I've not tried one at higher volumes.
12.
Hi, it's a short-scale bass SG style branded "columbus" and "made in Japan". The guy who gave me this said he might find the bridge too. Fingerboard looks like it's been played a LOT someone must have loved that guitar. The fingerboard is still totally straight. looks like rosewood / maple. The body is made of a top and a bottom, both one single piece. Electric seem to sort of work. Lots of dashes including some cracks but the neck seems to rest firmly. Bridge and nut are missing. Not so sure what to do - if he finds the bridge, will try to repair it. Or does anyone want this? Any other thoughts? Thanks!
I had a Columbus SG copy (the guitar not bass) ...it were proper sh*te ...my first electric though. £5 from a carboot sale
13.
Westone Thunder III. I really like the way this looks from the front, with the dark finish with wood grain. And the proper through neck. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Vintage-1985-Westone...=item335d2966bb
What an awesome looking bass! Shame about the crack in the neck though.
14. I love these amps. They sound the mutts nuts. I've got an Ampeg 50 watt BA112 1x12 combo. Im cash strapped at the moment but if its still about when I do have some pennies how much of a cash adjustment would you want? The Ampeg is mint as its never left the front room.
15.
Very nice Aria precision copy http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Aria-Pro-II-Primary-...=item1e5bd2503d This looks more like a '70s Precision than my CIJ 70's Precision re-issue!
Yeah, I've got my beady eye on that too! ...Although less so after forgetting about a £75 bid I put on a Squier P-bass standard in silver with matching headstock ...it went for £72.
16.
After stupidly selling my red Fender P5 deluxe last year i have been looking out for a replacement, and finally bought this one last week on the ebay..i took a chance on not seeing or playing it before buying but had a good result, Its just great, looks good, weighs only 9lbs 4ozs..and a big bonus, the neck is slightly slimmer than the last one,and the B string is good. I have used it at one gig and a couple rehearsals and am very pleased with it.
Oh god I had one of those in butterscotch blonde with a red-tort scratch plate and maple fingerboard ....I'd trade all my gear to get that one bass back
17.
If you've been playing for any amount of time or are any kind of decent musician you will know the Level 42's records are musically and technically superior to RHCH just by listening.
Are you seriously saying that if you don't think Level 42 are a better band musically than RHCP that you are a poor musician? ...what a ridiculous assumption. I don't like Mark King or Level 42 so does that make me a sh*t bassist? I can appreciate that he is a technically accomplished player but I think his tone is awful and his playing is overly showy and it doesn't do anything for me at all. Likewise I don't like the RHCP either. As for attracting more people to bass I think that Mark Kings time for that has passed. I bet any money that a lot of kids that pick up a bass will know of or are already a fan of RHCP and may only learn of Mark King as they progress as a player. The bassist that got me into playing bass was Sir Horace Gentleman's (Horace/Stephen Panter) playing in The Specials. Real simple stuff but catchy and had a great feel. Oh, whilst studying bass at college, I spent a fair bit of time breaking down and learning Mark Kings playing, songwriting and gear so I know enough about him to not like his playing.
18. +1 for Joe Bonamassa ...great guitar player and writes some great blues/rock! I've done a few blues gigs with a guitarist who refused to tell us what songs we were going to play till the night. My self, the drummer and the keyboardist all had to stand fixated on his fretboard and many a time during a "jam" at one of these gigs we would end up going to change to the IV only to have to improvise some sort of mad 2 way keys/bass run back to the I because the guy was still quite happily noodling over the I. It was a bit of a mad set-up to be honest but a good laugh.
19. Thats a pretty busy bass line for a verse ....I would say too busy IMHO. Maybe you can come up with something slightly more restrained and tasteful?
20. Awesome! Thanks for the info Bassassin. I dug out some new strings but after fitting the E string I ordered some new tuners for it as they are utterly shagged. Its missing a neck mounting screw too ...Im currently scouting ebay for some new ones. Other than that its solid as a rock ...its about the same weight as one too ...a bloody big rock at that!
21. I just bought one and its a fantastic bass. Sounds lovely and plays well too. I got it from Digital Village for £529. Out of the box the action was a little on the high side though.
22. Hi guys. I picked this up for a tenner today, which by my estimation is a bit of a bargain. Missing a string and is a bit beaten up but my god does it play well ...sounds pretty good too. Anyway, as far as I know Cimar was the cheap Ibanez range in the late 70's early 80's but thats all I found. It does explain why it looks like an Ibanez Blazer though. Does anyone know anything more about these bases? Cheers, Jon
23. I guess its a symptom of peoples aspiration to own something better. My first "proper" bass amp was a Peavey MK4 head into an old Laney 2x15 (christ was it heavy) and in all honesty it sounded sh*te but it was loud enough for gigging which at the time was all I cared about. After that it was a tech21 bass driver into a behringer power amp ...into the laney 2x15 again. I ditched the 2x15 shortly after that in favour of peavey 4x10. The sound was ok but it was far from hi-fi. After trying out a an EBS HD350 and proline 4x10 cab in a local music shop I took the plunge and coughed up the cash for it. It sounded the absolute mutts nuts but at the time I was playing more gigs as a guitarist and my rack system was getting out of hand so I sold the EBS setup to fund a Mesa triple rectifier. Now that Im playing more bass again Im yearning after another EBS rig ...better start saving the pennies again
24. I would be utterly heartbroken to have to part with that ...I think I'd just say to hell with the car and the bank ...but needs must as they say. Unfortunately for me I don't have a spare £5000 lying around but someone will ....lucky buggers!! Good luck with the sale and have a BUMP on me.
25.
Why limit high frquencies? Does this reduce ear damage? can you hear a difference with music played on each set of headphones? Intriguing rich
Yeah the majority of hearing loss is caused by loud high pitched noise ....horrendous feedback from singers who don't realise you shouldn't point mic's at monitors for example.
