  1. It's an almost impossible task keeping up with all the Bowie related bits and pieces that pop up on You Tube. Individual songs from The White Room have popped up before, but there's now a proper 'soundboard mix' of all the songs from that show that has appeared, including Teenage Wildlife. It does, as you say, sound 'meaty', but I think it's all the better for it. I'm ripping that tomorrow for sure.
  2. Bought tickets to see Kiss to see a new band called Bon Jovi 😎
  3. I've considered not taking any amps (and doing a Geddy) more times than I've considered taking a back-up amp (never). I've only ever had an issue with one amp many years ago and it was a particularly tempremental bugger. On the two occasions it quit on me, we were in a theatre venue and was easily bypassed.
  4. Yes, I know what you mean about Quicksand. Cracking song. We used it as an opener ourselves once for a very dear friend who comes to all our gigs. I can’t remember whether the video is still on our channel. The recording didn’t come out that well as I recall. We used the White Room version of Boys Keep Swinging as a template for what we do. Kicks derrière that one. I like Hours, but then I like Tin Machine as well and that doesn’t tend to go down too well in the Bowie fandom 😂.
  5. I’ve just finished listening to disc 1 of the Phoenix set and it’s excellent apart from Under Pressure which sounds a bit loose. Also love what they did with Driftin’ Blues into The Jean Genie. I liked the way they started gigs on this tour. Quicksand is a great low key opener and it goes into the revamped TMWSTW which is equally subdued.
  6. Yes, Teenage Wildlife was pretty much ignored until the Outside Tour. It was performed quite regularly throughout it though.
  7. Have now secured a copy of this from a very nice chap called Gary in London. Small world, but he knows our singer from seeing the previous incarnation of our current Bowie tribute.
  8. Right tools for the job I'm afraid. If you're going to be playing those types of tunes and you want to do it authentically, you'd be best getting a fiver. That said, I find some tunes easier to play in drop D on a four, like Beat It for example. Judging by that video, you'll pick both up in no time.
  9. Far too many to choose from. In the interest of picking a few names that haven’t already been mentioned: Phil Collins, Chester Thompson, Chad Wackerman or Jean-Paul Gaster.
  10. Sorry to hear of your health issues and even more so that it’s caused an end to your playing. I remember when you first got this and how impressed you were with it.
  11. Ah, big fan of The Band here. I must give this a listen. Thanks for the tip 👍.
  12. I’m with you there @Rich. I’m not terribly taken with the shape, but I could live with it and that buckeye WITH the blue just doesn’t work for me in any way. The blocks would also annoy me as I’m quite partial to no markings on the face of the fretboard and if I was ordering a custom, that’s what I would specify. Hipe you enjoy your new bass.
  13. I hear you loud and clear brother. There are far cheaper alternatives to Apple, BUT, I really can’t talk. I’m pretty much fully converted to Apple - in fact, the whole house is. The knack to keeping ahead of the curve is updating the iPad fairly regularly and selling the old stuff before it represents too much of a financial loss. It’s at a cost, but it gives me piece of mind. I know where everything is, it’s secure, it’s backed up and I literally use my pad for everything. Rehearsing (plugged into a Bass Buddy), sheet music (OnSong), recording through Garage Band, sharing music/docs via Dropbox and very occasionally looking at Basschat 😂. It’s sad, but I would feel like I had lost a limb without it.
  14. You’ve fallen into the classic trap of thinking that I’m generalising when in fact I’m being specific about one particular female. Feel free to take it up with her. I wish you good luck.
  15. Me not long and by accident £1000
  16. Full disclosure: My experience with JamKazam up until this point has been using an ethernet cable with a fairly decent wi-fi extender (plug in the wall job). JamKazam does work well with this, but I have now purchased a 15m Cat7 cable which is just about long enough to reach the router directly rather than using the extender. The difference, and I quote the singer, ‘is night and day’. Whilst it worked for me quite well, the extender caused issues with the other participants to the extent they were fighting a very slight lag. There was also, I know realise, a compromise in audio quality. We have another rehearsal tomorrow and I’m really looking forward to it. Through JamKazam this new band, who have never been in the same room together, have got a two hour set chosen and rehearsed to a near gig ready status.
  17. Mmm, I maybe mistaken, but I think there maybe a few laws in existence preventing the sale of children. Handbags though! I did not know they could cost as much as a bass 😲.
  18. Which of course is ‘I’m not sure, do you have a favourite pair of shoes or a favourite handbag?’.
  19. Knew I shouldn’t have posted in the gear abstinence thread 😂.
  20. Many have run aground after making such a declaration 😂.
  21. No, for $2000 you get a limited set of standard options on the M21-J and I don't see anything special listed there. Anything above that you will be paying extra for. I'm curious as to what Valenti can do that Shuker can't, but since you are unwilling to share the details of your 'super Jazz' it's impossible to comment further. I do agree, we're now off topic, so I'll wish you luck and look forward to the NBD thread when you're done.
  22. Ah yes, that’s the one. Didn’t think it was Sadowsky, but couldn’t put my finger on it.
  23. There was one for sale here recently with that on. It was a Sadowsky wasn’t it? Valenti used to work for Roger, so could be right. Reason enough for me not to buy.
