1. Tredders - It is full on, and would say you are going to cope better with some aptitude in the DIY area, ie, I have fitted four kitchens and a few bathrooms in various houses in my time so used to basic woodwork measuring and cutting out,. I had never done any routing so that was nervous. taking a rough file to a neck blank and producing a thing of beauty takes an eye with some artistic or craft oriented insight. My main relief and satisfaction is having produced a bass that feels like the high end basses i have been using of late, I had prepared myself that this could be an expensive educational holiday. but I have a bass i will be proud to play out.
2. Would like to say a big thank you to Jon and Tim for all your support and guidance throughout the week. Cheers
3. Well my week away has come and gone and i am now sat at home with a new bass I have been wanting to do this for some time so with redundancy in April and early retirement leaving some me time, it was now or never. I have always wanted a double reverse P. as per Leland Sklar's old bass I have also recently been drawn to the Tele bass bodies in particular Dusty Hill's reverse headstock bass So as a five string player i came up with this - slab body with edges a little more rounded than a 'tele' but less than a precision I used Tele control plates to keep that look also. Used the dusty hill reverse headstock so that everything was reverse Swamp Ash body maple neck Padouk board medium frets 3mm reflective side markers in 4mm brass barrels 20inch radius 34" scale wired vol/vol tone / tone A hard week 9 til 5 but really pleased with this, a great neck, a very playable bass
4. I would just buy an Acme lowB best cab i have owned bracing video - https://youtu.be/uJy3TscsL-U
5. I was just checking Wiki - early 1800's https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pajamas
6. Got into it for thumb / slap because you need to temper things and even things out, funk don't sound the same without one, unless you have a valve amp. so have got in the habit of having one up front on my board, I would rather not have anything between me and the amp but these do balance out your playing style and string volumes.
7. Girlfriends Daughter - right Your among friends here ash
8. If you hold these to your lips and continue to increase the angle, you'll find you will get increasingly Phased
9. Hi Guys I guess you are electrically biassed having clicked on this, and thought you may like this. A Great explanation
10. Love the SM-500 i bought on here to run my two 4 ohm cabs great tone and flexibility
11. We Use an RCF PA which is great gear but also have 3 x 10" Alto monitors which are great and have used them as a small PA at Jazz jams I quite rate their gear, but don't go less than 12" for your main speakers.
12. I'm with Bassmayhem - that's musicianship
13. I have had many generator related gear issues, i have documented here in various threads in the past so will spare you the detail Basically generators if they are overloaded, the frequency will dip. Larger sets e.g. Fair grounds you may have noticed the set cough when additional load comes on, you may see a puff of black smoke from the exhaust as the AVR linked to the engine tries to correct the speed to keep the frequency stable. If the set that your venue hires is too small or set up with Freq too low Your gears transformers will experience higher current get hot so your protection circuit may shut it down. An example -Quote The lower the operating frequency the more flux lines that are generated. Operating a transformer at 50Hz generates 20% more flux lines than at 60Hz. As the number of flux lines approaches the magnetic material’s limit, the heat in both the transformer’s core and its coil wires increases, and under certain circumstances, unpredictably so. This can result in a transformer that exceeds safe temperature levels. Therefore, a transformer designed to run at 50Hz will simply run cooler at 60Hz. But one designed only for 60Hz may overheat if subjected to 50Hz.
14. Is that Omar Hakim on drums in that Chic - Jerry Barnes clip ?
15. You Bass Toffs Bernard is my main man too - all the original vinyls in the loft etc etc. This is a 2017 covers band with one original member and boy didn't they kick ass. Killer bass tone for an outside gig and i bet Mr Rogers had his engineer make sure it was that way. Now all you moaners go off and practice
16. Love the Peavey, Always wanted a Sklar double P, so building one with Mr Shuker in August hope i am proud enough to post it later
17. Power wise it will be fine, Should run the whole band without traditional lighting. But have had issues with generator gigs, Frequency is an issue if not maintained, Should be 50Hz as the mains, but could be anywhere either side. Do you know any sparks to check if it is earthed properly, They are also usually center tapped to earth to give 55 volts to earth through the yellow sockets, but this also means the blue socket and or 13 A socket is also connected this way, It shouldn't affect it but confusing when testing it. Use an RCD socket outlet on your extension to be safe
18. I enjoyed the Foo's Just a band you have to see, whenever they are televised and yes I agree they were in awe of the reception they received, the event, So were not as raw and not so - take a load of this , as I have seen them 8 - 10 years ago. Bands are best when they have something to prove. Or other bands to knock off the top
19. I have only just been able to listen to an Oasis song on the radio now The Guys an arse'ole always was and probably always will be - his brother should know. Turning up unprepared is just another example of the contempt for the hard work most artists put into the business before getting anything out.
20. " Close enough"
21. picking it up correctly can be learned, but getting through doors could be fun.
22. Hi Squib I thought you got 3 years?, If i knew you were coming out i would have lent you the £1100, and taken the Nash as security till you get yourself together Tempting,
