the only reason i can think of that it wouldnt be suitable for gigging is that the metal case doesnt seem as hard wearing as a traditional wood cased amp.... but aslong as you take care of it... i dont see a problem.

what about using an amp model from the bass pos straight into a poweramp? ive heard some convincing tones coming from a setup like that, definitely good enough for a backup / temporary fix.
-
to keep all the preamps and power amp together you will also need a rack case. although depending on your power requirements, i'd be tempted to run the guitar preamp into a bass amp head. Something like an ashdown mag300 or 600 head can be had for less that £200 and had a pretty decent eq section where you can ad some low end to the signal, plus its one less thing to worry about as the preamp and power amp are all in one.

if the thunderverb 50 had di (i dont think it does) it would be great for just a monitor and running the signal into foh, or into a more powerful poweramp to drive a larger cab. however for the price of a thunderverb (about £1200) you can get a really nice ad200b or theres even a nice matamp gt200 for sale on here which would do an even better job imo.

imo i doubt you'd need the bass preamp, having 2 preamps in a row seems like a bit of a waste, having an eq will do a better job at adding some low end. and you will definitely need a power amp before the cab.

Ashdown, VHT, Orange and an unnamed cab

i dunno about the 50w version... but 200w or orange goodness is definitely enough for just about any gig, with the right cabs. you would need to use bass cabs as guitar cabs just don't push enough air for bass. I think the 50w version at a push could work for small gigs... but you will have very little clean headroom and it'll start to break up fairly early on you.

if i remember rightly, emg's are active pickups with a built in circuit, (boost signal of very few windings) so can be used with stock electronics, again, someone correct me.

i thought it made sense to post up about my band. it started with my guitarist mates solo myspace page. (shows has a nack for bedroom recording) he was approached by Paul Smith from Freeway, don't know if any of you know them but theyre a really successful Free (the band) cover band up here in the northeast. Paul wanted an originals project so asked dan to be on guitar, they got a band together and didnt really get very far until the drummer started being a pain and the bassist had to move away for university. it just so happened that me and Dan Robson (drummer) where making an exit from a previous band (don't ask) at the same time, so we were drafted in. its been going well and over the last few months we've built up quite a repertoire of covers to keep us gigging while we write more material. We're all finally confident and tight together in a band enough to enter the world of pubs pubs clubs and rallies. The Myspace hasn't been updated in a while, but the facebook is a bit more up to date (as bad as the facebook format is for bands). i don't think the recordings are half bad considering they're all done with a single mic and an imac. We've somehow managed to get on a couple of radio shows, even though we've only done a couple of Bike club charity gigs so far. But this friday we're playing my favourite venue to play, can't wait, every time ive played there before its been one hell of a fun gig. Feel free to give me (us) any and all advice / criticism / comments you like.

Whats the difference between the ATK300 and the ATK310
Colledge replied to parker_muse's topic in Bass Guitars
i can vouch for the 300, makes my go-to bass of 4 years feel and sound like a lump of tonedead firewood. still love it though. using the atk in anger for the 1st time tonight. -
he's by no means a bad player, infact i think he's very talented... but i can't stand Steve Harris' tone, its like sandpaper to my ears and ruins the whole iron maiden experience for me.

i'm not sure exactly how big it is, but you could try one of those cheap memory foam laptop cases, used one all the time for my laptop and its surprisingly protective.
-
the 12th fret has to be exactly half way between the nut and the bridge on any bass or guitar, moving the bridge completely messed up the intonation. to make a baritone you would either need to replace the fretboard or the whole neck.... so you'd pretty much have to make a new guitar minus hardware.

it has these as in the last owners fs thread look like some pretty good specs, i'm thinking of making myself one, but in a berg style staggered driver configuration.

hows about a jazz neck transplant on the p?

thanks for the suggestions. i completely forgot about the fearful stuff. i think the trace bright box was a bit of a bad example, i'm not after a super bright sound, more of a reinforcement in the mids / upper mids that a smaller driver gives. phil jones stuff is a more apt example, or even the 4x6 matamp cab in the fs section, but also idealy so i can stack it with my combo.... i'd just get a decent lightweight cab... but i don't have room for a fullsize cab and smaller ones won't stack well with the trace. i have a couple of 16ohm 10" ashdown cabs that sound great, but they're too shallow and anything other than a stack will just take up too much space onstage, the drummer is a Neil Peart wannabe so space is at a premium.

Well its summer holidays and i have alot of spare time and a bit of cash to spend. My rig at the moment is a trace v-type combo and i love the punch it gives out but i can't help but miss a bit of the clarity that my previous 10s gave out. I'm thinking of making myself a sort of bright box but not so extreme, something with a few 6"s or 8"s that can still do the full range but will just give me that little extra bite and help me cut through more. I'd design the cab to fit nicely under the combo and be nice and transportable. It has to be 8ohms so i'm looking at a couple of 16 or 4 ohms or 4 x 8ohms, i think three drivers would be better, but that would mess up my impedences. are there any recommendations regarding speaker types or configurations? or any other advice? I'm pretty handy with a jigsaw so the actual build won't be a problem. cheers.
