1. long shot, but how would you feel about a trace v-type combo? its only 280w.... but thats trace watts, so more like 500 formal-uns. ha also has that tube tone that i have a feeling you like, a-la terror bass. +cash obviously
2. i thought it made sense to post up about my band. it started with my guitarist mates solo myspace page. (shows has a nack for bedroom recording) he was approached by Paul Smith from Freeway, don't know if any of you know them but theyre a really successful Free (the band) cover band up here in the northeast. Paul wanted an originals project so asked dan to be on guitar, they got a band together and didnt really get very far until the drummer started being a pain and the bassist had to move away for university. it just so happened that me and Dan Robson (drummer) where making an exit from a previous band (don't ask) at the same time, so we were drafted in. its been going well and over the last few months we've built up quite a repertoire of covers to keep us gigging while we write more material. We're all finally confident and tight together in a band enough to enter the world of pubs pubs clubs and rallies. The Myspace hasn't been updated in a while, but the facebook is a bit more up to date (as bad as the facebook format is for bands). i don't think the recordings are half bad considering they're all done with a single mic and an imac. We've somehow managed to get on a couple of radio shows, even though we've only done a couple of Bike club charity gigs so far. But this friday we're playing my favourite venue to play, can't wait, every time ive played there before its been one hell of a fun gig. Feel free to give me (us) any and all advice / criticism / comments you like.
3. its the same sorta setup as the fender bass vi, guitar tuning, but an octive lower.
4. if your gonna relic a bass, you may aswell do it propperly
5. i can vouch for the 300, makes my go-to bass of 4 years feel and sound like a lump of tonedead firewood. still love it though. using the atk in anger for the 1st time tonight.
6. he's by no means a bad player, infact i think he's very talented... but i can't stand Steve Harris' tone, its like sandpaper to my ears and ruins the whole iron maiden experience for me.
7. i'm not sure exactly how big it is, but you could try one of those cheap memory foam laptop cases, used one all the time for my laptop and its surprisingly protective.
8. the 12th fret has to be exactly half way between the nut and the bridge on any bass or guitar, moving the bridge completely messed up the intonation. to make a baritone you would either need to replace the fretboard or the whole neck.... so you'd pretty much have to make a new guitar minus hardware.
9. it has these as in the last owners fs thread look like some pretty good specs, i'm thinking of making myself one, but in a berg style staggered driver configuration.
10. hows about a jazz neck transplant on the p?
11. thanks for the suggestions. i completely forgot about the fearful stuff. i think the trace bright box was a bit of a bad example, i'm not after a super bright sound, more of a reinforcement in the mids / upper mids that a smaller driver gives. phil jones stuff is a more apt example, or even the 4x6 matamp cab in the fs section, but also idealy so i can stack it with my combo.... i'd just get a decent lightweight cab... but i don't have room for a fullsize cab and smaller ones won't stack well with the trace. i have a couple of 16ohm 10" ashdown cabs that sound great, but they're too shallow and anything other than a stack will just take up too much space onstage, the drummer is a Neil Peart wannabe so space is at a premium.
12. Well its summer holidays and i have alot of spare time and a bit of cash to spend. My rig at the moment is a trace v-type combo and i love the punch it gives out but i can't help but miss a bit of the clarity that my previous 10s gave out. I'm thinking of making myself a sort of bright box but not so extreme, something with a few 6"s or 8"s that can still do the full range but will just give me that little extra bite and help me cut through more. I'd design the cab to fit nicely under the combo and be nice and transportable. It has to be 8ohms so i'm looking at a couple of 16 or 4 ohms or 4 x 8ohms, i think three drivers would be better, but that would mess up my impedences. are there any recommendations regarding speaker types or configurations? or any other advice? I'm pretty handy with a jigsaw so the actual build won't be a problem. cheers.
13. that looks like one hell of a cab for a great price. would be the perfect companion for my trace combo for a bit of added upper mids. But distance is the killer. good look, don't see why this hasn't gone already.
14. roland make single string pickups for use with their midi system... but i'm sure it could be modified to be used normally. downside is.... its over £100 each link

Stoner fuzz

i can't say i do. i was right next to the pit though, so probably did see, just most of the weekend is a bit hazy. i remember the guy with blood all down his face acting like a prat though. was a great show.
16. wait.... am i doing it wrong?
17. i'm not sure about a price as i'm not that experienced with peavey stuff... but i can guarantee that sound to price ration on that thing is sky high. At the moment big stuff just isnt selling. everyone is after lightewight gear. I just had to let one of the best sounding cabs ive ever played through go for very little for that reason. its a shame... but as good as those black widow loaded 2x15's are, they just won't fetch much because we're a nation of weaklings.

(threadjack) i saw Karma to Burn at sonisphere last weekend, they where headlining the jagermeister stage on the friday. there werent many people there, but the few people who where there were really into it and the band ended up doing a sabbath cover as an unexpected encore. The sound guy didnt like this and first cut the vocals mid song, then the bass. The bassist went nuts, threw his bass across the stage and it looked like he was about to rip the sound guys head off. I thought it was seriously unprofessional to just cut someone off like that mid song. especially seeing as they where the last band on that stage, and they cant blame licensing as there where bands on other stages after that too. If i where in the bands shoes i think i'd have done the same. they seem like a really cool bunch of guys.

for a stoner rock bass tone, you simply can't beat Karma to burn. Full of doom. He uses an acoustic head, i presume on the guitar distortion channel.
20. i'd highly recommend a trace elliot combo. Every one that i've played through seemed to produce a wall of sound with tone to boot. They're not exactly light... but a 1x15 combo aint exactly massive.
21. well this thread is a wake up call... ive used instrument cables loads of times as speaker cables.... speaker currents arn't really that great so i figured i'd get away with it, never had any adverse effects. I figured that the only real difference is better shielding and maybe slightly thinner gauge wires. anyway, +1 on not the cables fault. A few years ago i had some amp problems with the fuse blowing all the time... turned out to be a shorted speaker lead.
22. am i going to have to be the one to say "don't stop believing"? also hendrix - fire UFO - Doctor Doctor anything by thin lizzy Led zep - whole lotta love also... some variation of crossroads.... cream, rush, john mayer, robert johnson or any others of the thousands.
23. it'll give you that crispy ,sizzly top end and warm, and smooth low that you can only get when roasted.

25. those soundclips are like if someone took the perfect tone directly from my head, then made it better...
