1. Thanks guys for all the comments! I'll give it a go tonight.
  2.
...Is this normal for a Warwick or for some fretless basses? Would different strings make a big difference? ...
I've got a few Warwick fretlesses (fretlei? ) and they all certainly sound like a fretless should - I can get all the mwah I want out of them. I use TI flats now, but even when they had rounds on they still had the sound. So I'd guess it has to be in the set-up, like the others have said.
  3.
The aux input is designed to take a line input signal such as an mp3 player, as you guessed, a tape deck, cd player, keyboard etc whereas the normal input is for low level signals such as bass and guitar or any instrument that needs a preamp. It will work OK however, I'm not familiar with the Tech 21 Blonde pedal but you may find that it does not have enough output but then again it may. Try it and see, you won't damage your amp.
Thanks. If it definitely won't damage the amp, then I'll give it a go. I have to run the Blonde pedal at a low level to go into the front of an amp, so I suspect it'll happily provide a loud enough signal, but I'll report back once I've tried it. Cheers!
  4. A pretty Wal? Would that be a Wal-flower? Ok, I'll get my coat...
  5. I've got a GB Shuttle 3 and am wondering if I can safely run a guitar into the aux input while playing a bass through the main input. I'd be taking the guitar signal from a Tech 21 Blonde pedal, and I'm fairly sure the sound is going to be ok for what I need, I just want to be sure I'm not risking the amp at all - my fears are based on the assumption that the aux in is designed for an mp3 player, not a real instrument. I'm not very clear on the difference, but I know it's not good to play a bass guitar through hi-fi speakers, so I'm guessing there are some relevant differences. Anyone able to advise me? Thanks!
  6.
Linus, if Jesso's not gonna have it why don't you have a punt on it mate?
Punt? I thought Ireland stopped using those years ago. Or are you already anticipating the end of the single currency? Re the bass: yes, it's made in Germany, yes £600 is about right, but prices range a lot. New it'd be somewhere around £1200 or £1400? And yes, it'd be hard to remove that red finish - the stain goes quite deep. Check the Warwick forum for refinish tales if you want more details.
  7.
So just put a jack plug - with nothing connected to it into the FX return, that should remove the input to the output stage ( Yeah OK ) and no sound comes out.. Then use the FX send/line out to drive whatever you like. Easy innit ? or did I misunderstan the question ? Bit early for me yet.
That's just what I was going to suggest. You could plug in a guitar cable, but I suspect you may get a bit of hum, so a jack plug on its own would be best (e.g. or something like a 6.35 - 3.5mm jack plug converter?) BRX is right (of course!) about you only getting part of the sound if you record the pre-amp out, but you say you've got a cab sim, and I'd have thought that covers the two most important components. But at the end of the day, you can only try it and see if you're happy with the sound.
  8. I'm not greatly experienced with effects loops, but I'd have thought that if you took the line-out and plugged it into your computer, and didn't plug anything into the "return" socket, then no sound would come out of the speaker. If you've tried that and it doesn't work like that, then fair enough, but if not, I'd give it a go. I did knock up a dummy load for my guitar amp, but I'd be wary of taking the responsibility for avoiding blowing up someone else's amp. But if nobody else bites, drop me a PM.
  9. Like WH says, the LX is bolt-on, and the Stage 1 is neck-thru. In the current spec, the only other differences are that the LX has an ovangkol neck and a 2-band MEC preamp, whereas the Stage 1 has a maple neck and 3-band MEC preamp. The Pups and body woods are identical.
  10. A 4-string P-Nut? The P-Nuts get a huge lot of love on the Warwick forum, but I've always resisted the GAS because they had the wrong number of strings. Now it's not so easy. Btw, according to the Warwick site, it is active, although with a 2-band MEC preamp where the proper P-Nut has a 3-band SD preamp. The Pups seem to be the same though.

    Impedance.
I know there have been threads about this but I still can't understand it. I am buying a Warwick Profet 5.1 which has 1 speakon out at 500W with a 4ohm impedance. If I buy a 6 ohm cab what will happen? I assume it will power it but I will lose some watts? ...
With a 6 ohm cab you will, theoretically, get slightly less power than you would through a 4ohm cab. But it'll probably make very little difference in terms of perceived volume.
  12. Does it look like any of the boards here: http://www.mec-pickups.de/modules/infos/in...18419&cl=EN
  13. From what you've described, I think that the casing of the blend pot is electrically connected to one of the live parts. Yes, this could be because the pot is faulty, but unless you're expert at soldering, it's much more likely that you have unintentionally made this connection when wiring the pot. (That's certainly what I would assume if it happened to me, cos I don't consider myself expert at soldering). This could happen by a tag being bent over slightly too far, or the wire having a little too much bare wire showing that then bends round and touches the case, or there could be too much solder on one tag, so it has spread and reached the casing, .... If you're 100% confident of your soldering abilities, then go ahead and buy a new pot. If it were me, I'd de-solder and re-solder every connection to the pot. (If you do re-solder the connections, you could save some soldering work by doing some more diagnostics first: if you turn the blend pot fully clockwise does it still buzz when you touch it? What about fully anti-clockwise? If it still buzzes in both of these positions, then I think your problem is with the two opposite corner tags that are joined by the short white wire. If not, and it works ok when the blend pot is turned fully one way or the other, then it's one of the two centre tags that is the problem).

    Cardiff bass bash?

If it's in Cardiff then I'm in, but Bristol's too far. (And atm it looks like 5-3 to Cardiff, so the Blues are winning so far ).
  15. Wouldn't a Hartke A70 do all that?
  16. Down, if you're still wanting the answer. In one cab I ended up turning unscrewing the socket and rotating it 180 so that the cable would go up.
  17.
Looks like figured mahogany to me. Gorgeous stuff, whatever it is.
Yep, "mahogany pommelé" according to Warwick, and it does look nice, with a good 3D effect. I'd been thinking that a mahogany bass would give me the sort of sound I like, but I find regular mahogany just reminds me of my Gran's wardrobe, so I wanted something that looked a bit different.
  18. Nice! And I suppose I ought to add something to this thread, so here's the last Warwick I bought - a mahogany Corvette $$:
  19.
... the blend pot is making this really loud buzzing noise when I touch it.
This makes it sound like you need to earth that pot. You should try that first. Oh, wait, you've already done that:
If I earth the pot to the bridge earth cable, it stops the bass making any sound what so ever so what do you suggest?
This says, to me, that either: 1) when you earthed the pot, you connected the earth wire to the wrong part of the pot. I got caught out once because the bottom face of the pot was actually attached to the wiper, and the earth connection needed to go to the side, not the bottom. I can't remember exactly, but I suspect that was on a blend pot. or 2) something else is wrong in the way you've wired up the blend pot.
  20.
... I went to find a "2 volume 1 tone" wiring diagram ... Can someone edit the diagram so that it doesn't have the switch in there but so it's still 1 volume for each pick up and a master tone controlling both pickups please? ...
You just want this one, but with the single battery replaced by two joined together exactly in the diagram you had above.
  21.
I was thinking of one of these but tune as low as A and wonder if it can handle it???
Harmonics!
  22. And tucked in Ashley_Id's feedback is a comment about him/her buying that black tele. But it's curious that the seller with tons of feedback seems to be the dodgy one. Is there any possible legitimate explanation? I'm struggling to think of one, but maybe someone with more ebay experience or more imagination can help us out?
  23. They changed the neck profile a lot around 2009/2010 - I've got an '08 with a huge neck, and a '10 with a very slim neck. (Also that '10 has seriously rolled edges whereas the '08 has edges so sharp you could almost cut yourself on them). I think it was in the late '90s that they introduced the huge neck, but I'm not very clear on the dates, or the history before that. Dan's experience with his 2006 neck suggests that things may not have been too uniform even in the 2000s! Btw, when I say my '08 has a huge neck, I recently got a 50s tribute Gibson LP (guitar, not bass) and was amazed at how big the neck was. So obviously my '08 Warwick is not as extreme as it could be. And, fwiw, I don't have any difficulties with any of these necks - they're all quite playable for me.
  24.
With a nammer.
Does it have to be an offical Rickenhammer, or will any old 16oz jobby do?
