1. Meshuggah-tastic!
2. I'm looking at this and would be kind of curious of any opinions. Their instruments look undoubtedly superb, and I have heard first hand glowing reports of some of these Chinese eBay imports (although only violins and violas). I have also heard that carbon fibre bows tend to punch well above their weight compared to traditional wooden bows of the same price (although they're selling some of them too!). So, worth a shot, would you say? I definitely think I'm ready for a new bow, the one I bought when I left school just feels too heavy and weighted towards the heel, but I don't have a big sack of cash to buy a nice wooden bow locally. Thoughts, comments, abuse all welcomed
3. I just changed my strings (for about the fourth time in six years) and slapped a set of heavy guage Elixir nanowebs on. So far so good, but they'll no doubt stay on for at least a year whatever happens.
4. Devin Townsend- Ziltoid The Omniscient Bass played by Devin Townsend (as is everything else). The bass isn't terribly inspiring, although the rest of the album is.

6.
I also realised how much I'd neglected my playing, both technique and development, and for me, there's no such thing as "good enough". That's purely on a personal level - if I could play like Wooten, I'd still be as self-critical as I am now.
Amen to that.
7.
Wouldn't completely banning smoking de facto be some sort of infringement of freedoms or rights or something?
Only if you feel that all drugs should be unregulated; IE heroin, cocaine, marijuana should be available legally, and you should be able to get Viagra without a prescription. If you can ban those, what's the big deal about banning tobacco? Conversely, if you let people smoke, why not let them take heroin to their heart's content? The only reason we make such a big deal over tobacco and alcohol is becasue they're socially acceptable.
8.
Mrs Tinman may like the low B
As long as its not floppy. The exit's this way?
9. That top really is phenomenal.
10. I was randomly picked out of my music class in the first year of high school and sent to get a lesson. The rest, as they say, is history. Picked up bass guitar a couple of years later- a better way to go IMO than BG to DB.
11. Standard D (DGCF) for my metal band, and now all the time since I only have one bass and don't want to have to retune/re-set up every time I want to play with someone else. When I get a 5+ string I'll probably keep it tuned in standard tuning.
12. Oh my that's going to be amazing. Love the inlay!
13. Heh, I love that analogy.
14. You'd be surprised... my double bass <3 public transport. On the tube its a squeeze (Glasgow tube is smaller than the London version) and I wouldn't like to do it at rush hour but its certainly doable
15. Not noticed any signficant difference in gig attendance locally. 's all good as far as I'm concerned
16. A 7 string- preferably a 7 string version of the ACG single cut Alpha-Dave is having made. Some lightweight cabs- looking at going the BFM route (!) A Pod XT Pro (probably the guitar version with all the model packs) Big-ass MIDI controller A new bow would be nice too.
17. That's f***ing brilliant.
18. "Begining" should have a double N in the middle- beginning.
19.
I'm sure I saw a photo of Leland Sklar playing one of these - can't remember when/where though? Hamster
He's an enthusiastic current endorser IIRC.
20. Nice!
21. They are meant to be up there with the best of the "Super Jazzes" quality wise- potential Sadowsky killers at a much lower price. Do it and report back
22. God damn that's going to be a nice bass. I really am going to have to save my pennies and hop on a bus to Moffat one of these days.
23.
Velvet: I'd be willing to try that, but for one thing, someone seems to have deliberately moved both soundpost and bridge towards the endpin by maybe an inch and a half. So I could do a couple of things 1) Follow your advice and finish up with a scale length that's an inch and a half too long 2) Figure out (with a luthier) why the bridge was moved (relieve pressure on the crack, maybe ?) and get the whole thing put right. Any way you look at it, I'm going to need a luthiers advice I think.
Looking at it again, for me it all comes down to how bad the cracks are. As long as the top can be made structurally sound (and my untrained eye suggests you shouldn't have too much problem, although I have no idea of cost) then getting the soundpost and bridge in the right place is a moments work for a luthier. That said, what's an extra inch and a half on top of 41"?
24. Belter. What are the scales then? 36" to 32" or something?
25. No I/O Means No Messy Cables!
