1. A Boss VF1 from eBay is a good bit cheaper, and would replace your current EQ halfrack neatly. The bass "algorithm" includes a compressor and a four band totally parametric EQ- there's also a dedicated 10 band EQ algorithm. Just thought I'd lower the tone a bit on this high end outboard gear orgy
2.
The gap left by the Aphex has been replaced by 84 (yes, 84 ) bright blue LED's. None of my gear had blue LED's before but I might have over compensated They're arranged behind a roll of semi-translucent plastic to blur out the individual leds and give a rack-wide and lush blue light. I'll post a pic if my camera phone does a decent job of it.
Now this I want to see. Even a crappy camera phone job will do.
3. You lucky sods. I wish I could get to this!
4. They look rather nice, although I'm not too keen on the headstock. The fact that he'll make them to match your existing bass is pretty great though. So, you gonna buy it?
5.
Marc Sabatella's Outside Shore Jazz Primer should go in there too... http://www.outsideshore.com/primer/primer/index.html As should Jamey Aebersold's Jazz Handbook (also free) http://aebersold.com/Merchant2/merchant.mv..._Code=_HANDBOOK
Wooooooooah that looks like a pair of goldmines of info! Thanks for that! www.emusictheory.com has a load of exercises for ear training and reading. www.realbook.us has a whole shedload of chord charts for jazz standards. You have to register but its free and easy, and I haven't gotten any spam from them.
6. The two best basses I've ever tried (although I only go for 5 strings these days) were undoubtedly a Sadowsky Metro UV and a Lakland Joe Osbourne. I'm sure their 4 string sisters would be equally appealing.
7. I hate to think what shape my spine is.... probably something like a paperclip.
8.
Exactly - it's an Italian name, like Bergantino - stress on the penultimate syllable. Is Aguilar pronounced the Spanish way or anglicised? And Alembic is a.LEM-bik, I believe. How do you say Skjold? Alex
I say it Skyold. I also say two by ten.
9. I don't gig DB with an amp so that's less of an issue for me. I have taken my double bass on the tube (never had any problems, but I just lift it over the turnstiles) although I probably wouldn't at rush hour. I have taken it on the bus many times, and I used to drag a stool about as well. That was a bit extreme, but if you can get a bus with pram spaces I generally find its not a problem. With an amp probably would be a different story.
10. Cab wise, I wouldn't get anything bigger than 4x10s for bass and 4x12s for guitar. As others have said, Peavey is built like a tank and sounds pretty good for the price so I'd probably go with them for bass heads and cheapish Marshalls for guitar. If you include storage you're onto a winner I reckon, that really sets the studio I use apart from most of the rest and gurantees them repeat business.
11. My double bass loves Glasgow's public transport system.
12. Woah nice one! Fuel my already somewhat GASeous fire why don't you?
13. I've changed my strings 4 times in 6 years I think. IMO, unless your slapping a lot or doing full solo sets where you really need the top end you can keep them on as long as you like. That said I just stuck a set of Elixirs on my bass so we'll see if I change my tune now.
14. Just realised there's another thread about this in general bass discussion. Oops.
15. Whoops I just posted this in the basses forum. His description is pretty priceless.
16.
I don't think it's fair that anyone judge him for having lots of nice gear, if you can why not.
+1 I know I would...
17. Fodera for a quid. Well, sort of. That seems like a pretty dubious way to go about it, but the description is priceless.
18. I think he has 3 at the moment! One's for sale (or recently sold) IIRC.
19. By "helpful EQ" do you mean the EQ section or the preamp's inherent colouration?
20.
Oh sh*t, not again....hair caught in tuners. Hey man, don't move..... OW! I said DON'T... OW! OW! OW!
I've been there. It's hilarious for all concerned.
21.
--- That reminds me, has anyone had there music tastes changed substantially by being in a band? That would be interesting to know. -- paul.
I started listening to a lot more powercheese metal because I joined a power metal-ish band.
22. The website says 450W into 4 ohms or 600 into 2.
23. a) Practiced upright enough to have realistically gone to a conservatory. Learned to play jazz (and improvise generally) on upright. Bass guitar was very much secondary to me at that point, and still is to a lesser extent.
24. I bought the tiny one from Dood. That's about as much power in a small package that I've found. There's also the Crate power brick and I think Bose do a small one, about 200W if I recall rightly.
