By the time I was playing gear costing £1k plus I had discovered bass chat and was able to trade my way through some fairly nice gear. I might have saved a little money had shops stocked similar instruments to try first but there’s just so much choice out there even the likes of bass direct, bass bros and the bass gallery can’t stock it all. I did try a very nice Dakota custom shop jazz bass in a PMT once. It was a thing of beauty but the £2.5k price tag was a little heavy, and I do wonder how many of those high margin/ high cost items they tended to sell in stores vs online.

Just don’t mention them. It saves on tar and feathers. And matches and shovels. And time spent digging holes in remote locations

To repair my road-side Thames 15cwt van breakdown, I took the London rush-hour tube with a six-foot long greasy, grubby, smelly prop-shaft in my hand, to get to a breaker's yard. No-one objected, and I had plenty of space all around me, both there and back. I don't think a bass would cause any issues.

Absolutely. I would say just if anyone else needed it there’s rarely harm in using the overheads. After six string guitarists*, there’s nothing worse than the bags on seats crowd on a heaving train. * A joke before I get torched

A bass is enough - no shades required the reaction at my local om to zombie with bass was far superior to a previous rendition by same singer/guitarists with no bass. The seller has provided pictures of the bass, and describes it as having cosmetic damage but fully functional. Errr, no. Unless needed by a pregnant woman, or the elderly, in which case give the seat to them and show the world that bass players are better than guitarists who would fight all comers with sharpened plectrums 🤮so that their Les Paul might enjoy velour and comfort foam and a nice view through large windows

I just got an Ibanez EHB to help with weight/back pain. Its really light and am loving it so far. I also just got a Shure GLX tuner/wireless as it has a large display. Last week on my old tuner I managed to tune one string flat because I couldn’t see the display properly, which made for an awkward first song! I need glasses for reading and close up stuff, but don’t really like playing with them on.

Everybody blames strings when setting the witness point at the saddle gives the strings their tone and 'voice'. Maybe try this out when initially fitting strings.

I played last night in shades because I left my regular glasses in my car... at the drummer's house. I wouldn't recommend it - could hardly read the set list on the floor. I imagine I looked hella cool though 😎
