Gas irons are really useful though, and if yours has actually melted I reckon it could be faulty -- I have a trusty old Antex Gascat 75 which has certainly never got anywhere near melting, even after protracted use. Higgie Posted March 4, 2011 Share Posted March 4, 2011 (edited) Just completed my first 2 proper builds... MXR Micro Amp clone, and a Marshall Bluesbreaker clone. The Bluesbreaker is from BYOC.com and the Micro Amp is from GGG. Oddly enough I tried to make a simple true bypass loop pedal a few months ago and couldn't for the life of me get it to work...But give me something with components and a PCB and I can build them fine! Both pedals worked straight away, no trouble shooting at all. Now just to finish them - I've designed some Art Work for both but I don't know how/what would be the best method of doing it. What would you recommend? Next project will be a Wooly Mammoth clone I think...Also got a pedal design of my own I'd like to build! Al Heeley Posted May 2, 2011 Share Posted May 2, 2011 New pedal time again, this one's finally finished off after knocking around half-complete for the past 4 months. It's a clone of the splendid Xotic BB Pre-amp; basically a classic Tubescreamer overdrive unit but with an active eq section by way of treble and bass controls run off a separate TL072 op-amp chip. A really good transparent overdrive tone means you preserve the characteristics of your guitar while adding bite and overdrive to the tone. With gain down it also acts as a clean boost or a treble boost circuit. Very versatile pedal and a great addition to the growing board of fun. retrohelix Posted June 29, 2011 Share Posted June 29, 2011 Cheers for all the links that everyone has posted in this thread... almost too much information goodness, but it's all bookmarked I thought it'd be interesting to start a blog tracking my progress as someone who has never built a circuit in their life, hopefully into someone who can create effects pedals worthy as gifts for friends, live use, recording etc. For everything I build, I'm going to post detailed logs with photos and videos - including the (inevitable) mistakes and troubleshooting. Also, I'll be posting pretentious little concepts for pedals I hope to be able to build in the future, this way they'll pile up and I'll never be short of ideas when I've learnt how to create and tame the beastly creature known as fuzz. Looking at these posts, I know it's not gonna be a walk in the park but it's something I've always really wanted to have a go at.
