CHRISDABASS Posted February 12, 2010 Share Posted February 12, 2010 (edited) Hey a friend of mine has an ibanez musician bass he'd like to sell and i just wondered roughly how much its worth?! From what i can make out its a 1979 model, through neck with what looks like a walnut body?? ( does that sound right?) it has 2 pickups and what looks like an active eq (5 knobs and some switches) i'll be honest its pretty beaten up! Shaggy Posted February 12, 2010 Share Posted February 12, 2010 I'm sure there was a thread recently on these. They're cracking basses, I had one new in '79 (as did a certain Mr Sting). Body wings are stained ash, and they had tuned rods in the neck to eliminate dead spots. I think the last one on here went around the £300 mark so for a scruffy one that'd be your baseline, but good ones can go for £800 on the 'bay. Pics are always good! [/quote] I had a fancy for one of these until I watched one climb over £850 about 4 years ago on Ebay - mind you, I don't think you'd get that now. There's an Ibanez Studio on Ebay at the moment, which isn;t a million miles away from the Musician - you could watch how that goes. It generally looks nice, with a few chips around the back body edges - but I'm a little concerned by the lacquer cracking around the head - particularly the one beneath the volute. Is there any structural damage here, like between the fretboard & neck? Apart from that it looks good, and it's good to see all the original hardware present - the propreitary Ibanez bits - Accu-Cast bridge, Velve-Tune tuners & Sure-Grip knobs (they did like their hyphens! ) are rare as a rare thing & usually the first things to be "upgraded" by idiots who think these basses were cheap rubbish. CHRISDABASS Posted February 13, 2010 Author Share Posted February 13, 2010 Thanks for the info It seems the cracks on the back of the neck are not structural at all! they're Just in the lacquer i cant see anything more than superficial damage to the finish of the bass it actually plays and sounds really well! It also briefly sums up a little bit of Ibanez Musician history. It doesn't cover MC's produced after 1984 because there no longer were lefthanded versions of the MC range available, it mostly covers the MC924, but the MC900 is mentioned briefly too.
